Ontario Trails Have Everything You Need

If you think this is a tiny, obscure group of trails cloistered far from civilization, think again. How about over 1000 miles (1700 km) of trails signed, mapped and insured for OFATV and HATVA members?

The network snakes around gorgeous lakes, through the most beautiful pine forests on earth and offers some of the most challenging routes in North America to ATV enthusiasts.

On a recent ride our crew sampled the infamous Miserable Lake Trail. It’s rated Expert and is part of the world renowned Corduroy Enduro route. With incredible mud, slippery climbs and treacherous crossings, this trail is the equal of world-class off-road routes such as the Rubicon Trail.

Aptly named, "The Miserable" is off the Victoria Rail Trail between the towns of Kinmount and Haliburton. This is a trail Al-Terrain Vehicle Magazine frequently rides when evaluating new ATVs as it certainly brings out the weaknesses and strong points of any off-road vehicle.

When you ride and complete this trail you should receive a crest with the logo: “I survived the Miserable Trail”! Post-ride bragging rights are well deserved.

What’s really cool is almost all secondary roads are ATV legal in the county, providing riders follow the approved rules. This makes for a tourism integrated system allowing access to the region’s many ATV friendly hotels, resorts, restaurants and gas stations.
