ITP “XC BUCKS” RACING CONTINGENCY PROGRAM

Competitors in this season’s Grand National Cross Country Series will be getting the full support of ITP with the return of the “XC Bucks” contingency program for 2011.

“XC Bucks” are being offered to the top three finishers in virtually every class at every round of the 2011 GNCC Series, and are redeemable at full face value toward the purchase of tires directly from ITP.

Get started on collecting “XC Bucks” by filling out just one “XC Bucks” form for the entire season (available at the track, from the ITP website or ITP Customer Service).

Then mount up a set of ITP tires on all four wheels and stick some ITP decals on your quad’s bodywork. Visit the ITP trackside support representative at the race venue for a quick tech inspection, and you’re on your way. Good luck!

“XC Bucks” represents the final announcement of ITP’s racing contingency programs for 2011 (including “MX Bucks” and “WORCS Bucks”). ITP has significantly increased ATV MX and GNCC payout postings, and winning racers will be happy to know that products will be shipped to them free of charge.

ITP contingency recipients will also appreciate not receiving IRS 1099 tax statements, since payouts come in the form of new tires instead of cash.

RANGER RZR XP 900 Dominates WORCS Race

The RANGER RZR XP 900 was out in full force at the Buffalo Bills WORCS race, in Primm, Nevada this past weekend. The top four spots belonged to the newest, high performance Side-by-Side.

D.J. Noerr finished first with Phillip Martin finishing close behind. Third belonged to the William Yokley of the National Guard Polaris Coastal DragonFire Yokley Racing Team and fourth went to Christopher Blais.

National Guard Coastal Yokley Racing’s Scott Kiger was right with the leaders until an unfortunate belt issue dropped him to seventh. William Yokley’s third place finish gave him the points lead for the class.

“It was great to see the various RANGER RZR models as the choice of the racers in the WORCS Side-by-Side classes,” said Donna Beadle, Polaris Race Team Manager. “We congratulate all the winners and are excited to see what the rest of the season brings.”

STI UNLEASHES PRO-LITE SPUN ALUMINUM WHEEL

High performance is now available at a reasonable price with the introduction of the all-new STI Pro-Lite spun aluminum wheel line. This is the wheel sport ATV riders have been waiting for.

Pro-Lite wheels are manufactured with the latest high-tech production equipment and utilize heavy-duty .170 wall construction to provide maximum strength and minimum rotating mass.

This lightweight, rugged wheel is then beautifully polished to a mirror-like finish or topped with a satin black powdercoat.

The STI Pro-Lite debuts in five sizes – 8×8.5, 9×8, 10×5, 10×8, 10×10 – and a variety of bolt patterns and offsets to cover front and rear applications on all popular sport ATVs. Each wheel’s bolt pattern has been stamped inside for easy identification.

Perhaps most impressive is the Pro-Lite’s value. With the Pro-Lite, dependable high performance does not come at a high cost. Comparison shopping proves the Pro-Lite the most attractive spun aluminum wheel on the market today.

“We return as title sponsor of one of the greatest off-road racing series in the world, and we return with our demo tour at selected spots in 2011. Jagged X Wins King of the Hammers

0

After three years of racing “King of the Hammers”, the Jagged X team won the side-by-side class with the new and nearly-stock RANGER RZR XP 900!

Since its original debut in 2008, the “King of the Hammers” race has been deemed the toughest off-road race in the world.

The course is a 42-mile combination of open desert racing, narrow goat trails and huge rock trails. For the last two years, the Jagged X team raced their desert race car and while they were in the hunt, the heavier full-blown race car came up just short of the win.

This year, the team took a little different approach and raced the new and nearly-stock RANGER RZR XP 900. The unit was modified only to comply with the safety requirements and equipped with a set of Elka Elite series shocks.

With the temperature hovering in the low 20s, the Jagged X team lined up in the tenth starting position with seventeen other side-by-sides.

When the flag dropped, Brandon Schueler and co-driver Mike West charged off into the California desert with a group of very-well equipped competitors. The RANGER RZR XP 900 did an amazing job of reeling in the rest of the field and by the first rock trail, the team was running in third position.

Shortly after, the only car between the No. 1919 and the finish line was the two-time winner Mitch Guthrie, also driving an almost-stock, very nimble and quick RANGER RZR 800. The two were separated by only a few feet for the next 15 miles but then in the last major rock section, known as Aftershock, Schueler was able to squeeze by and capture the lead.

The two swapped the lead again in the bottom of the canyon but when the dust cleared, Jagged X came out ahead by nearly five minutes ahead of Guthrie, and the rest of the field was nearly an hour back.

“The new RANGER RZR XP 900 proved once again that Polaris is the only manufacturer to build a car that offers the power, suspension and agility to win one of the toughest races in the world,” said Brandon Schueler. “Jagged X would like to thank everyone who helped us to take the crown and become the KING of the HAMMERS!”

Special thanks go out to Polaris Industries, Elka Suspension, Pro Armor, Simpson safety equipment, CR Designs, OMF Performance and Renegade Seats.

STI ROLLS OUT ALL-NEW HD1 SLIK-KOTE WHEEL

0

STI Tire & Wheel is bringing a new level of innovation to the ATV/UTV aftermarket with the launch of the HD1 wheel.

What sets this model apart is its unique non-stick, Slik-Kote finish, which sheds mud like no wheel before. This high-tech, rugged, deep gray finish reduces mud and debris buildup and resulting unsprung weight, which can compromise the machine’s power, handling and ride. It also makes post-ride cleanup exceptionally easy.

The HD1 wheel’s heavy-duty construction adds to its innovation. This advanced one-piece alloy wheel features both inner and outer wheel lip reinforcement. Most wheels in this class use only outer lip reinforcement. Like STI’s other HD Series wheels, the HD1 carries a lifetime structural warranty.

The STI HD1 debuts in 12×7 and 14×7 sizes, to fit most popular utility/4×4 ATVs and side-by-side UTVs. A special, matching HD logo wheel cap is included with every wheel. The 12×7 has an impressive 700-pound load rating, while the 14×7 size provides an 800-pound load rating.

Despite its cutting edge features, the STI HD1 is surprisingly affordable, making it a top choice for anyone who prefers to do their motoring in the muck.

STI HD1 Slik-Kote wheels are available at finer ATV/UTV dealers everywhere, through MTA Distributing.

Glamis – What’s the Big Deal?

0

Only the luckiest ATVers have experienced Glamis. The Imperial Sand Dunes (Glamis) are a legendary 200 square mile off-roading playground located at the south-eastern tip of California near the tiny town of Brawley and 20 miles from Yuma, AZ.

The dunes are nature’s gift to motorheads and the result of windblown sand off ancient Lake Cahuilla over the course of thousands of years. On holiday weekends as many as 150,000 off-road vehicles have been known to make their way to this Sahara-like phenomenon, and for years I couldnÂ’t understand what the big deal was. That is, until I got the chance to experience it for myself.

Recently, a handful of selected ATV editors (including me) were once again spoiled by Yamaha USA and brought to the Imperial Sand Dunes to ride the wheels off the updated Raptor 700 and YFZ-450. Talk about making the most of my first ride in Glamis!

Obviously it was exciting enough just to be in this legendary riding spot where Jabba the Hut tossed Luke Skywalker into the Great Pit of Carkoon in 1982, but to be riding the very best of the best ATVs there really made the experience over-the-top.

The Raptor 700, with its plush suspension and dynamite engine, was purpose-built to perform in the dunes. I couldnÂ’t have been plopped on a better ATV for my first ride in Glamis. Riding the dunes is like riding a continuous roller coaster that youÂ’re in control of. You can literally hold the Raptor’s throttle wide open and ride from one bowl to the next until the adrenaline makes your heart miss a beat.

The YFZ-450 is the preferred choice for many experienced dune riders. Its high performance, torquey powerplant does not disappoint one bit. Those who know how the dunes flow often choose the YFZ for the pure sport, rigidity and off-the-seat ride this quad lends so naturally.

After a few hours on the Raptor I saddled up a 450 and found my groove. The low CG and more compact feel of the YFZ allows the rider to corner harder and kick up walls of sand 20 feet high. Moving from bowl to bowl you often need to maneuver up and down small crests and catching air off those on the YFZ is as good as it gets. Truthfully, you can’t go wrong with either of these two quads in the Imperial Sand Dunes and I wouldn’t have wanted to ride anything else in these conditions.

Glamis is absolutely the most fun you can have riding an ATV. DonÂ’t believe me? Do yourself a favor and maximize your visit to Glamis by bringing along a Yamaha Raptor 700 or YFZ-450. If you’re going to make the trip to the world’s greatest riding destination, you might as well ride the very best ATVs too.

STURTEVANT PLANT BECOMES HEART OF EVINRUDE

0

BRP will invest over $15 million in the next three years to transform its outboard engine facility in Sturtevant, WI and become the heart of the Evinrude brand.

Evinrude product development, marketing and sales functions as well as customer service will be consolidated under one roof. In so doing, all employees from the Waukegan, IL facility will be regrouped in the Sturtevant campus.

There will be no job terminations resulting from this move. Employee relocations will begin in late spring and should be completed by the end of 2011.

“This additional investment further demonstrates BRP’s commitment to the Evinrude brand,” said José Boisjoli, president and CEO. “One site allows BRP to bring all Evinrude-related employees under one roof to better serve its network and its customers worldwide.”

The decision was made to ensure maximum utilization of the facilities and to structure the BRP team in a way to encourage efficiency and community. BRP committed itself to the Evinrude brand when it acquired the assets of Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC) in 2001. It has since invested millions of dollars in R&D for the E-TEC technology, which revolutionized the outboard engine industry.

In 2005, BRP became the first marine engine manufacturer to receive a Clean Air Technology Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its environmentally friendly E-TEC engines.

In 2009, E-TEC technology was adapted for snowmobile engines, producing some of the most fuel-efficient engines in the industry.

Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP), a privately-held company, is a world leader in the design, development, manufacturing, distribution and marketing of motorised recreational vehicles. Its portfolio of brands and products includes: Ski-Doo and Lynx snowmobiles, Sea-Doo watercraft and boats, Evinrude and Johnson outboard engines, direct injection technologies such as E-TEC, Can-Am all-terrain and side-by-side vehicles and roadsters, as well as Rotax engines. BRP products are distributed in more than 90 countries.
