Exploring Moab

0

From mountain bikes to full-size 4x4s to ATVs, you can explore Moab, Utah, and its beautiful surroundings in a variety of ways.

Even on foot, this part of the United States is one of its most impressive landscapes on Earth and could arguably be called the “Off-road Capital of the World.”

On this trip, we also enjoyed some time on Arctic Cat’s 2010 snowmobiles.

Our weapon of choice for the snowy mountain trails was the muscular and long-tracked M1000 Sno Pro mountain sled. Fast, fun and at home in the deep white stuff, the Big Fella made our ear-to-ear grin larger as soon as we pinned it.

Although our time was limited, we learned why we need to make more room in the garage for both ATVs and sleds!

If you’re into experiencing nature and soaking up surreal sites and learning about natural wonders and Western US history then Moab is your place.

We guarantee nobody can show you a better time than Scott McFarland at High Point Hummer (www.highpointhummer.com).

McFarland has served as our guide on two different occasions and we’ve been wowed on both expeditions. From rock crawling to exploring mountains to taking in the local grub and sites, McFarland is the man.

We’d also recommend Poison Spider Bicycles (www.poisonspiderbicycles.com) if you want to use your legs instead of your thumb to go for a ride.

RACERS POWER CAN-AM ATVS TO SIX GNCC CLASS WINS

Press Release –

Round Three of the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series near Morganton, North Carolina, saw a perfect day of racing as both the morning racers and afternoon racers anticipated a dry, rugged course.

Can-Am ATV racers would walk away from the race day with an impressive six class wins, including a sweep of the 4×4 classes.

“It was a solid weekend for our Can-Am ATV racers,” says Jimmie O’Dell, Racing Manager for Can-Am ATVs at BRP. “We took some good lessons away from Steele Creek and are looking forward to even better results at Big Buck!”

Team Warnert / Can-Am racer Bryan Buckhannon showed why he is the racer to beat in the 4×4 Open class as he powered his Can-Am Outlander 800R XT EFI ATV to the class win.

His teammate, Lexie Coulter, had a great result on her DS 450, taking third overall for the morning race and second in the Women’s class.

Coulter had the lead on the last lap until lapped traffic forced her to second place. Warnert Racing’s Cliff Beasley was also successful taking the U2 class win on his Renegade 800R X xc by almost five minutes.

In the afternoon, College A (16-21) class racer Jamie Bithell rode his Warnert Racing / Can-Am DS 450 to the class win and finished ahead of almost 200 other racers.

Can-Am X-Team racers Scott Kilby and Kevin Tratham took wins in the 4×4 Limited and 4×4 Lites classes respectively. Finally, Can-Am Outlander racer Forrest Whorton took the Utility Sr. (45+) win during the morning race.

BRP TAKES PRO WIN AT ROUND THREE OF WORCS

Press Release –

When Motoworks / Can-Am DS 450 racer Josh Frederick pulled to the starting line at round three of the World Off-Road Championship Series near Lake Havasu, Arizona, he was on a mission to win.

With the drop of the gate, Frederick quickly took the Pro-class lead and during the course of the 18-lap race, continued to add to that lead until he crossed the finish line more than five minutes ahead of second place.

“With Josh taking the Pro points lead, we are looking forward to extending that lead by the end of round four,” says Jimmie O’Dell, Racing Manager for Can-Am ATVs at BRP. “Josh and his team are committed to bringing the number-one plate back to the Motoworks / Can-Am race team.”

Frederick’s pro-class teammate, Dillon Zimmerman had a solid race on his Motoworks DS 450, finishing fifth in the class.

Amateur rider, Cole Henry, ran into some handling issues midway through the race and came into the pits for repair work to a broken ball joint. He made it back onto the course, but had to settle for a top 15 finish at the end of the Pro-Am race.

The next round in the WORCS championship is April 23-25 near Adelanto, CA.

ITP WINS SAN FELIPE 250 ON BAJACROSS TIRES

Press Release –

Chalk up another one for ITP’s BajaCross tires. This time it was the 24th SCORE San Felipe 250 in northern Baja, Mexico, as drivers Bob Viau Sr. and Chris Koch piloted the ITP-backed, DragonFire Racing-prepped Kawasaki Teryx to a decisive Sportsman UTV class victory.

The Minnesota-based duo used BajaCross tires mounted to ITP T-9 Pro Mod wheels fitted with T7 Beadlock rings to complete the course in just under nine hours, at an average speed of 27.9 mph.

Their margin of victory was almost a half hour. It was a nearly flawless effort under perfect racing conditions. The only issue the team experienced the whole day was being nerfed from behind by a bigger race vehicle in a deep silt bed, which knocked off the spare tire and jack.

Luckily they didn’t need it, as the tires and wheels went the distance with no problem (just like they did on the way to winning the most recent Baja 1000).

The BajaCross is ITP’s most rugged tire ever, built to handle the toughest and heaviest UTV applications. It performs impressively in a wide variety of terrain conditions on 4×4 and utility ATVs as well as UTVs.

An 8-ply rating and 25% stronger construction has resulted in a high level of durability. Our extended-life rubber compound and innovative overlapping tread pattern provides a smooth, predictable ride as well as slow wear characteristics – this is the highest-mileage tire ITP has ever produced!

Stepped lugs provide consistent tread edges as the tire wears, for predictable performance throughout the long life of the tire.

Wraparound lugs provide improved shoulder protection, while a super deep Rim Guard feature offers the best wheel lip protection in the business.

Despite its strength, the BajaCross’s advanced carcass design delivers the most comfortable, trail-compliant ride available.

The ITP BajaCross now comes in six sizes: 25x8R-12, 25x10R-12, 26x9R-12, 26x11R-12, 26x10R-14 and 26x11R-14.

Since 1982, ITP has grown into the world’s #1 ATV/UTV aftermarket tire and wheel source, and continues to provide a complete line of innovative tires and wheels for virtually all ATVs and UTVs. RJ Anderson Does the Double in his RANGER RZR

Press Release –

The 2010 Lucas Off Road Side-by-Side short course season kicked off with a bang this past weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with Polaris team driver RJ Anderson taking first in Saturday’s Round 1.

Anderson, had a tight battle with the leader until the last lap when the leader’s engine let go, letting Anderson cruise to victory with a 19 second margin over second place. Tyler Parks finished third, also in a RANGER RZR.

“I had so much fun out there today,” said Anderson. “This is the first time we raced at this track and it took me a while to determine the best lines, but by half way mark I had it figured out.”

Sunday’s Round 2 started off with a soggy track after heavy rain the night before. The “Unlimited UTVs” were lined up along with an experimental class that featured Side-by-Side’s fitted with 150 horsepower motorcycle engines.

But despite stiff competition, the combination of driving skill, Kroyer power and the RANGER RZR’s four wheel drive allowed Anderson to again take the top spot on the podium on Sunday.

“With all of the rain we thought the track was going to be really slippery, but my RANGER RZR hooked up real well,” Anderson said.

Anderson also had the fastest lap on Sunday with time of 1:18.83 and with his two victories he takes a commanding lead in the championship.

The next rounds of the Lucas Off Road Racing Series takes place at Speedworld Off Road Park, in Surprise Arizona, on April 17 and 18.

Anderson is sponsored by Walker Evans Racing Shocks, Polaris ORV, Kroyer Racing Engines, South Point Casinos, Goodyear and Holz Racing Products.

Creamer Takes the First QuadCross Win

Press Release –

For his first ride aboard his Yoshimura-equipped Suzuki QuadRacer R450, Josh Creamer looked completely comfortable and took charge early on in the first ITP QuadCross race of the season.

The race, at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, Calif., was a way for Creamer and his Yoshimura-prepped quad to get some real-life race experience before the start of the AMA ATV Motocross series.

Creamer got the holeshot, pulled away, and led every lap of the Pro class. His Yoshimura exhaust helped his machine make useable power and had plenty of pull off the starting gate, where Creamer set the tone for the race. Creamer was thrilled with the way the ATV reacted to his input.

Yoshimura’s ATV Marketing Manager and former ITP QuadCross champion Kory Ellis was equally happy with the results.

“Creamer really used the quad’s power to the fullest,” Ellis said. “We can’t wait to see how Creamer’s motocross season goes this year, and if this QuadCross race is any indication, we’ll have a lot more podium finishes to look forward to.”

Ellis and the Yoshimura Support Rig will be attending every round of the ITP QuadCross series to lend support to racers with Yoshimura exhausts and to provide demos to racers who want to experience the legendary Yoshimura power for themselves.

The next race on the schedule is at Arizona Cycle Park in Buckeye, Ariz., on April 11.

Borich Victorious at GNCC Opener

Press Release –

The 2010 GNCC season got off to a great start at Westgate River Ranch on Sunday for Yoshimura Suzuki rider Chris Borich, after he made a series of carefully executed passes in the final laps of the race to take the checkered flag in the XC1 Pro event.

Chris started the race in fifth place, but by racing smart and biding his time with his Yoshimura-equipped QuadRacer R450, he took advantage of every possible opportunity.

“I knew it was going to be a rough track and I just paced myself and then made my move,” said Borich. “I just let the track come to me and everyone made little mistakes and I was able to take advantage of it. I pretty much made my moves around the mud holes and anywhere else I could find.”

Chris was in third place by the time the riders hit the woods for the first time, and there he stayed until the second to last lap of the race. With just over a lap to go, he made the pass for second and started his charge to the lead. On the last lap he managed to make the final pass for the lead, and by the end of the race Chris had opened a 1.4 second lead over second place.

Chris was heavily favored to win due to his dominance of last year’s GNCC series, during which he took 9 race wins, two additional podiums, and finished the series an impressive 97 points ahead of second place. Chris is looking to continue that domination this season, and if his performance on Sunday is any indication, Chris is well on his way to piloting his Yoshimura-equipped Suzuki to another GNCC title.

Borich Takes His Suzuki to the Top of the GNCC

Press Release –

Reigning GNCC ATV Champion Chris Borich is no stranger to the top spot on the podium, and this weekend at the Parts Unlimited River Ranch GNCC in Florida he was back up there again.

Borich and his Suzuki QuadRacer R450 were the favorites going into the race, and after coming form behind to take the win he showed the XC1 class that he’s ready to dominate again in 2010.

Borich started the race in fifth place. His smart, calculated moves put him in second place, and at the end of the race he passed for first place and took the win more than a second better than second place.

“It feels good to get the first one out of the way,” said Borich. “I knew it was going to be a rough track and I just paced myself and then made my move. I just let the track come to me and everyone made little mistakes and I was able to take advantage of it. I pretty much made my moves around the mud holes and anywhere else I could find.”

Borich and his QuadRacer R450 will be at round 2 of the series, which takes place March 6 and 7 in Washington, Georgia.
