Yamaha Viking VI Donated to HAVA

0

Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) announces the donation of a Viking VI (6-seat) Side-by-Side (SxS) vehicle from Yamaha Outdoors for use with the disabled veterans and injured active military which it serves.

Yamaha, an original HAVA founding company, and one of its largest sponsors, donated the $15,000 vehicle to allow HAVA to better accommodate the needs of its veterans for off-road transportation, particularly during hunts in remote locations.

The first use of the new SxS was during an early-December elk hunt near the NRA Wittington Center which hosted 10 disabled participants in the snow and freezing temperatures at altitudes above 10,000 feet.

With a 115 inch wheelbase, 686 cc 4-strokeengine, 3-way locking differential, hydraulic disc brakes and a 1667 pound wet GVW; the Viking VI has all of the capability needed for HAVA’s important work under the most difficult conditions.

“Yamaha was one of our 6 founding companies in 2008, and has been there supporting the cause at every step since then,” said HAVA Chairman Tom Taylor. “They are a leader in the SxS category and can offer us both the right vehicle and the right service and support coordinated from their Georgia-based factory. With the addition of this formidable equipment, we will be able to accommodate disabilities in the most extreme remote locations.”

Added Yamaha Outdoors Marketing Manager Steve Nessl, also a HAVA Director, “Being able to donate our latest and largest vehicle to the HAVA cause will be an opportunity for our U.S. based employees and dealers to share in the pride of making a difference in the lives of dozens of America’s military heroes. Our nearly 8-year association with the HAVA team has been gratifying for all as the organization has grown, and we are always looking for more ways to help. We felt that donating the full-featured Viking 6-seat vehicle was a great way to demonstrate our on-going commitment to those who have sacrificed so much for freedom.”

In 2015, the new HAVA Viking VI vehicle will see service on hunts in Washington, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, New Mexico and Texas in support of the disabled men and women that HAVA’s shooting and outdoor industry sponsors are pledged to repay for their service.

2016 Yamaha Wolverine R-Spec Side-x-Side

0

Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., today introduced the Wolverine R-Spec, an all-new Side-by-Side (SxS) vehicle that sets a new standard in off-road capability and class-leading comfort. Designed and engineered for exploring extreme terrain, the Wolverine R-Spec is assembled in the U.S.A. for worldwide distribution.

The 2016 Yamaha Wolverine R-Spec boasts an all-new nimble chassis with a compact design, look and feel, a comfortable and secure cab with seating for two, Yamaha’s proven core technologies, and overall superior handling and durability with industry-leading suspension adjustability.

“The all-new Wolverine will extend Yamaha’s Side-by-Side line into the recreation segment creating a new level of durability, quality, handling and superior off-road capabilities not yet seen in the off-road industry,” said Mike Martinez, Yamaha’s Recreational Vehicle (RV) group vice president. “YamahaÂ’s Wolverine R-Spec SxS is made for off-road enthusiasts, hunters and explorers looking to navigate tight, technical trails and extreme off-road terrain.”

CLASS-LEADING SUSPENSION ADJUSTABILITY

The Wolverine R-Spec’s long-travel suspension with standard KYB piggyback shocks features 9.7 inches of travel in front and 10.6 inches of travel out back – and more suspension customization than any other model in its class with high- and low-speed compression damping, rebound damping and spring preload adjustability.

This best-in-class adjustability allows drivers to tune the comfort and handling based on personal preference and terrain. The impressive suspension package provides superior handling along with a comfortable and planted feeling while articulating through a variety of rough off-road situations.

ALL-NEW CHASSIS, STYLE AND DESIGN

The Yamaha Wolverine combines aggressive new styling with a nimble and compact-feeling chassis designed to maximize visibility while allowing the driver to navigate tight, technical trails and challenging terrain. The vehicleÂ’s 81.3-inch wheelbase, 11.4-inches of ground clearance and wide-arc A-arm design provide maximum terrainability and ground clearance.

Designing the vehicle for extreme terrain and durability, Yamaha incorporated features like rear wheel protectors that extend from the bottom of the frame to reduce obstacle contact with rear tires. The chassis is upswept on the sides more than two inches higher than the center of the frame to help the vehicle more smoothly pass over obstacles.

Full-coverage skid plates front-to-back and side-to-side eliminate catch points and increase glide points. For added protection, Yamaha incorporated standard front A-arm-mounted CV boot protectors and rear A-arm built-in skid plate protectors.

Yamaha employed durable steel wheels (12 x 6 in the front and 12 x 8 out back) and all-new exclusive 26-inch Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires providing optimum traction, durability, comfort and steering precision.

CLASS-LEADING COMFORT

The Wolverine’s automotive-style cab with all-new supportive high-back bucket seats is designed to provide maximum comfort and confidence for both driver and passenger, especially in extreme off-road environments.

The seating area’s compact yet comfortable feel features ergonomically placed controls. The driver’s seat is three-position adjustable, and the passenger is provided with a three-point adjustable dash-mounted handhold.

Dedicated floorboard panels allow for maximum legroom while simultaneously creating a planted feeling, especially in rough and rugged terrain and on long off-road expeditions.

The Wolverine’s all-new cab design features a new center console with multiple storage options. Three-point seat belts and shoulder bolsters – and even the new engine positioning – all work in concert with the new chassis and cab design to create the best balance of optimum occupant comfort with maximum off-road capability.

More interior functional features include two cup holders, two center console storage bins, a dash-mounted glove box and under-seat storage, and digital display panel with speedometer, odometer, dual trip meters, hour meter, clock, fuel gauge, gear position indicator, and four-wheel drive setting.

The Wolverine features a standard 12V DC outlet for powering accessories and personal items on the trail, while its new gear selector and parking brake lever are placed in intuitive, convenient and comfortable locations within the center console.

The Wolverine R-Spec comes standard with a dealer installed hard sun top and ROPS US OSHA/ISO3471 cage to provide added protection from the elements.

NEW STANDARD IN OFF-ROAD CAPABILITY

Yamaha incorporated industry leading and proven technologies into the new Wolverine R-Spec chassis that all combined to create a new level of off-road capability in its class.

Yamaha’s On-Command four-wheel drive system features 2WD, 4WD and 4WD with diff-lock – and puts control in the driver’s hand with an intuitive dash-mounted dial. The driver-controlled system eliminates hesitation or slipping while waiting for a computer to engage, which is common in some competitive models.

Yamaha SxS vehicles have a reputation for durability and reliability, and this is due in large part to the exclusive Ultramatic automatic transmission that has been proven to have the industry’s most durable CVT system.

The centrifugal clutch with integrated cooling fan maintains constant belt tension. This eliminates any potential slipping and slamming of the belt when at idle or engaged, ultimately reducing belt wear and heat.

Featuring high, low, reverse and neutral, the Ultramatic system with one-way sprag clutch is not only the most durable, but also provides the industry’s most consistent and natural-feeling engine braking that eliminates “free-wheeling” – an important feature especially when traversing extreme terrain.

SUPERIOR HANDLING

The Wolverine R-Spec’s superior handling is achieved by the combination of numerous design and performance features including YamahaÂ’s Electric Power Steering (EPS) with rack and pinion steering. YamahaÂ’s EPS provides the industry’s best balance of assist and positive feedback from the trail, providing maximum comfort and confidence with optimized steering ratios, a light steering feel and precise handling.

Yamaha incorporates durable four-wheel disc brakes providing strong and predictable stopping power and feel. A separate new wet parking disc brake system provides increased durability and protection from the elements.

NEW ENGINE

The all-new Yamaha Wolverine R-Spec features a new double overhead cam (DOHC), 708cc engine with optimized torque, power delivery and engine character – for exciting recreational driving.

The fuel injected, four-valve engine packs a 10.1:1 compression ratio and 103mm bore by 85mm stroke. A new Air Induction System (AIS) produces less emissions meeting the latest EPA standards, while the engineÂ’s power character and delivery is optimized for technical terrain and extreme off-roading.

The Wolverine R-Spec features a high-volume air intake that is elevated to keep it out of the elements and optimizes power character for off-road situations. The oversized dual foam filter with reusable design is located under the easily removable center console and requires no tools to clean and return to the trail.

Yamaha’s thoughtful design incorporates simple service features such as coolant, engine oil and gear oil drain holes that are built into full-length skid plates and easy to access battery and marine-grade electrical components under the removable hood panel.

REAL WORLD TOUGH AND EXPEDITION WORTHY

The Wolverine R-Spec is built for expedition length adventures with a 9.7-gallon gas tank and a lightweight and durable injection-molded composite fixed-position cargo bed. Six steel tie-down points are connected to the chassis and a removable tailgate can be stored and secured in the front of the bed that also has a built-in one-inch divider. The bed is rated to haul up to 300 pounds of gear and supplies, while a two-inch receiver hitch is rated to haul an additional 1,500 pounds of weight.

MODELS AND MSRPS

The all-new Wolverine R-Spec will be available in Yamaha dealerships nationwide starting in April. Standard models feature a hard sun top and come in Steel Blue and Hunter Green. The new camo Wolverine R-Spec will be the first ever SxS to feature Realtree Xtra Camo. MSPR for non-EPS models starts at $12,199 and for EPS models starts at $13,199.

Xtremeplus’ Willy Alcaraz Wins Fourth Dakar

0

Xtremplus’ Willy Alcaraz made it an unprecedented fourth time he’d win the Dakar and the third time riding solo, this time in a RZR XP 1000.

This year’s Dakar Rally was 9,000 Kilometers, spanning three countries with 140 competitors taking on some of the toughest geography offered in an off-road race.

Alcaraz, similar to the bike riders, would run the race without a windshield and faced the heat, cold, rain, hail, salt, temperatures below zero, altitude and at the end of the race, a storm and mud. He would not only take his class but also finish in 46th place out of the 67 remaining cars in the car category.

“I am exhausted! This Dakar was hard until the very end, but I am happy to get the fourth victory in T3 and the third in Solo,” said Alcaraz. “At the end, in spite of the bad weather, I was able to manage my distance and make it to the end. The Polaris RZR XP 1000 is a well-made machine that has been magnified by the preparation of one of the most professional workshops in Pont de Vaux. I want to thank Nico, Manu, Thierry, Francis, Sylvain, Alexis, you guys do an extraordinary work every night to make the RZR as new, and in a very friendly environment and good humor which makes me feel better when I get to the bivouac every evening. Also, I want to thank Marco Piana, Norberto Cangani and Steven Griener in the T4 truck (race truck), because we know that in case of a problem, they are not very far.”

Along with Alcaraz, Xtreme Plus’ Team Munk/Delaunay, also in a RZR XP 1000, would take second in the T3 category and 55th overall.

Kawasaki IMG Motorsports American SXS Team

Co-pilots Sara Price and Erica Sacks will take on grueling 9-day race in the deserts of Morocco, Africa

Team Kawasaki IMG Motorsports announced today that they will support the first ever American Side X Side Team to race in the 2015, 25th Anniversary, Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles. Sara Price and Erica Sacks will be tackling one of the toughest All-Female Sporting events on the planet in a factory supported Kawasaki Teryx® Side X Side built by IMG Motorsports.

The Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles is a 9-day race located in Morocco, Africa where approximately 160 teams and 300 competitors come together to tackle the terrain without the help of GPS. Using nothing but outdated maps, teams are forced to navigate through the incredibly tough terrain with nothing but a compass and their will to succeed.

This navigational challenge will be a true test for the Kawasaki IMG Motorsports team. They will navigate with the goal of traveling the shortest distance from Point A to Point B, ranging anywhere from 700 miles to 3,000 miles.

Emily Miller, former pro racer and one of the first Americans to participate in this race, is mentoring Sara and Erica along with Kirsten Kuhn, who is the US Team/Media Liaison for the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles. Sara and Erica will have to overcome the challenges of a language barrier, an unvisited country, and unfamiliar desert.

Sara Price previously raced for Kawasaki as a professional women’s motocross racer making history in 2010 as the first ever female factory supported racer in motocross. Sara also achieved over 16 Amateur Championships on a Kawasaki during her amateur racing career as well as medaling in X-Games.

Sara crossed over into the Side X Side racing in 2012, racing many different disciplines in a UTV and fast became a force to reckon with. She is also going to be the youngest American to race in the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles’ 25-year history.

Erica Sacks has over 15 years of off-road racing experience. She has been all over Baja and has raced the longest race in the US, giving her the knowledge necessary to compete in this long race. She has raced in a variety of off-road cars from Trophy Karts to Class 1 cars, and has the experience and navigational skills required when racing in the most prestige races held in Baja. She recently finished second place in a UTV at the 2014 Lake Elsinore Grand Prix.

“Racing in the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles has been a dream of mine to test my skill and also have this experience of a lifetime. Having a long history working with Erica from on-the-track to in the garage, I feel we couldn’t be a better team to do this. I’m very excited to be back with Kawasaki and have their support and can’t wait to make America proud” commented Sara Price. EricaÂ’s excited about this new partnership as well and commented, “When Sara came to me about being her teammate for the rally, I thought this is crazy, but what a fun experience! Sara and I have been friends for many years. This last year I have been involved as her spotter in her UTV racing and working together with her on her UTV. I’m looking forward to taking our racing friendship to Morocco as team USA, Kawasaki, IMG Motorsports.”

Team USA, Kawasaki, IMG Motorsports are asking for their fans be a part of this amazing, first-ever American race team at the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles! A Crowd Funding Campaign has been started to help support this team at www.darkhorsepros.com/campaigns/88, where fans and supporters have the chance to come on board to join and support them in this amazing journey.

The team can also be followed on their journey, from training for the rally to daily updates in Morocco at facebook.com/TeryxGirls or use Official Hashtag #TeryxGirls on social media sites.

INTRODUCING THE RZR 4 900 EPS

0

This past July, Polaris introduced one of the biggest RZR line-ups ever and continued to fuel the RZR lifestyle by offering the widest variety of vehicles for every type of sport riding.

With the introduction of the new 2015 RZR 900 and RZR S 900, Polaris redefined the first two RZR products ever built by providing the vehicles with unequalled power, highly-capable suspensions, unmatched agility, and revolutionary ergonomics and styling.

To continue RZR’s tradition of offering the most-complete line-up of sport side-by-sides, Polaris is introducing the new RZR 4 900 EPS, one of the most versatile, multi-passenger side-by-sides available.

Whether you ride in the trail or desert, the RZR 4 900 EPS delivers a multi-passenger option that can tackle a wide variety of terrains at a lower price than a premium model.

The vehicle shares many of the same attributes as the RZR S 900; 75 horsepower, ProStar 900 EFI engine, Dual A-Arm Front and Rear Suspension, High-Performance All Wheel Drive (AWD), 60 in/152.4 cm width, revolutionary ergonomics and styling, and accessory integration; with a 106.5 in/270.5 cm wheelbase that accommodates two more passengers so more family and friends can experience the RZR lifestyle.

At the heart of the RZR 4 900 EPS is a 75 horsepower ProStar 900 engine offering 40 percent more power than the legendary RZR 4 800 model it replaces. Polaris’ ProStar engines have become the pinnacle of performance engines for RZR due to their efficiency, acceleration and durability.

To get more power to the ground, the vehicle also features the extremely-durable RZR XP transmission which is specifically geared to optimize the power of the engine for a huge improvement in acceleration over the RZR 4 800.

With improved clutching and calibration, the RZR 4 900 EPS’ ride is also smooth and predictable throughout the power band. And the new, high-flow clutch intake system provides more airflow and decreases belt temperature to provide an extremely durable clutch system.

To handle diverse terrains from high desert to dense trails, the RZR 4 900 EPS features a 106.5 in/270.5 cm long wheelbase paired with a Dual A-Arm Front and Rear Suspension with 12.25 in/31.12 cm of front suspension travel and 13.2 in/33.53 cm in the rear and FOX Performance Series 2.0 Podium X Shocks, so the suspension can be tuned for exactly the way you ride to provide excellent plushness and comfort while still yielding great bottom-out resistance.

The unit’s ultra-rigid, tubular chassis is paired with a completely new suspension geometry for less vibration inside the vehicle and more responsive suspension feedback.

The machine also features new 27 in/68.58 cm GBC Dirt Commander Tires that offer better side bite, stiffer sidewalls, better tracking through corners and increased durability, making the RZR 4 900 EPS a performance-based, multi-passenger machine that’s predictable and inspires confidence.

For unmatched agility, the RZR 4 900 EPS has several features that were first introduced on the RZR S 900. The vehicle’s optimized track width inspires confidence through corners thanks to an additional 1.3 in/3.3 cm of rear track width while maintaining the overall vehicle width of 60 in/152.4 cm.

While all RZR vehicles are equipped with On-Demand True AWD, the RZR 4 900 EPS utilizes Polaris’ High-Performance AWD which keeps the front wheels pulling stronger and longer, maximizing power delivery to the ground in every condition for a more responsive ride.

The system provides increased traction without sacrificing steering effort to provide unmatched point-and-shoot handling. The RZR 4 900 EPS also features 20 percent faster steering response with an improved two-turn lock to lock steering ratio.

Coupled with the smoothest and most-responsive standard Electronic Power Steering (EPS) with variable assist, the vehicle ensures the operator feels confident and less fatigued, and allows the driver to keep his hands on the steering wheel more often even when navigating through tight terrain.

For excellent rider comfort, the RZR 4 900 EPS features many of the same, unique features found on the RZR XP 1000. Both driver and passenger seats are equipped with seat sliders for easy adjustability, and all four seats offer improved bolstering and more hip cushioning for a more secure feel.

A thin-film technology under the cover of the seats offers a drier ride in wet conditions. Rear passengers also will enjoy more foot and leg room, and an angled floor for a more secure feeling. The vehicle also features four, factory-installed quarter doors to make getting in and out easier.

First found on the RZR XP 1000, the cockpit of the RZR 4 900 EPS features front LED floor lighting and a blue back-lighted instrument cluster, readable both in direct sunlight and at night.

To take more stuff along, a large center storage area and a bigger glove box provide ample space for any items needed during the ride while the deeper rear box provides ample space for additional cargo. Sealed floor seams and equipment pass-throughs keep the occupants cleaner; while dual removable floor drains allow for easier clean out of the cabin.

The RZR 4 900 EPS also is easier to service due to the ease of access of the major components. The air filter, spark plugs and oil fill are located under the removable box panel in the cargo box of the vehicle while a panel between the seats houses the dipstick and oil filter, and is accessible without removing the seats.

The vehicle features an integrated transmission with only one check/fill point and grease zerks for both the inboard and outboard bushings of the A-arms. Durability is taken to a new level with new stronger ball joints, half shafts and hubs with improved bearing fit.

To allow for easy electrical accessory installation, the RZR 4 900 EPS features a terminal block for wiring under the hood and a bigger battery with 44 Amp-hours of capacity and 575 cold-cranking amps.

RZR owners love to accessorize their vehicles and the RZR 4 900 EPS’ purpose-built chassis is exclusively engineered for Polaris accessories. With integrated mounting points situated along the vehicle frame and pass-through areas for routing wires, accessories can be attached with minimal installation time.

Additions, such as rock sliders and bumpers, easily attach and fit securely to the vehicle’s frame due to Polaris’ innovative Lock & Ride® Expanding Anchor; a revolutionary piece of hardware that expands as it is inserted into a mounting point.

Lock & Ride windshields, rear panels, roofs and doors work seamlessly with each other and install directly onto designated mounting points, making installation simple, and providing superior fit and finish.

The RZR 4 900 EPS will be offered in Havasu Red Pearl and Voodoo Blue and will be in dealerships starting in February.

POLARIS ANNOUNCES NEW RZR MODELS

0

As part of RZR’s continuing innovation and commitment to its enthusiasts, Polaris is announcing several new models featuring new paint schemes and graphics, and a new RZR XP 1000 EPS model with the first-ever Internal Bypass Shocks available on a side-by-side.

The new RZR XP 1000 EPS FOX Edition is hands-down, the best performing suspension ever offered on a sport Side by Side, featuring highly-tuned FOX Podium Internal Bypass Shocks, re-tuned coil-over springs, new front stabilizer bar and softer rear bar. The vehicle offers the next generation of suspension innovation that takes Razor Sharp Performance to a whole new level.

The new FOX Podium Internal Bypass Shocks found on the RZR XP 1000 EPS FOX Edition generates highly-progressive damping that gives the vehicle a plush ride with all the bottom-out resistance expected from an ultra-performance off-road vehicle.

The shocks have large diameter bodies (3 in/7.6 cm rear, 2.5 in/6.4 cm front), reservoirs and increased fluid capacity for dramatic improvements in heat dissipation, fade resistance and durability. The internal bypass technology offers more zones than a conventional shock for better tenability and performance for the smoothest ride available on a side-by-side and better handling over a wider range of terrain at any speed.

To complement the new shock package, Polaris outfitted the RZR XP 1000 EPS FOX Edition with redesigned coil-over springs. The progressive rate upper spring is a lighter-weight spring that absorbs small impacts while the stiffer, main spring maintains ground clearance and absorbs bigger impacts in rough terrain.

The RZR XP 1000 EPS FOX Edition also is the first RZR XP to feature a front sway bar and also has a redesigned rear sway bar with 25 percent less stiffness. Combined with the FOX Podium Internal Bypass Shocks, the sway bars dramatically decrease body roll and improve vehicle handling and comfort.

Along with the new suspension package, the RZR XP 1000 EPS FOX Edition features Matte Turbo Silver paint, cut and sew seats, new graphics package, innovative 6-Point harnesses and the Polaris Interactive Digital Display which is an integrated, industry-leading LCD display and gauge with full-featured GPS, mapping capability and compass.

The display also features integrated Bluetooth functionality and shows the speedometer, tachometer, dual trip meters, odometer and maintenance warnings along with a digital clock, and operating conditions including fuel level and diagnostics.
