Can-Am Maverick 1000R side-by-side vehicle racer Kyle Chaney won the XC1 Pro UTV class at the Mountaineer Run Grand National Cross Country race this past weekend in West Virginia.

Can-Am Maverick 1000R pilots swept the XC1 Pro class and also won the XC2 Pro Sport and Amateur Limited classes at the Masontown, W.Va., race. Can-Am ATV racers also earned two wins and eight podiums.

“Our GNCC Maverick racers were awesome this weekend. Maverick 1000R driver Kyle Chaney led from wire-to-wire, earning another win to regain the XC1 Pro class points lead,” said Jeff Leclerc, Racing Project Leader, Can-Am. “Our racers, with numerous wins and podiums, continue to push hard for wins. We have a bunch of dedicated ATV and side-by-side vehicle racers, all working for the same goal of putting Can-Am in the winner’s circle.”

Chaney, the defending 2014 GNCC UTV XC1 Pro class champion, has posted back-to-back victories to push his Chaney Racing / TurnKey UTV / Can-Am Maverick 1000R into the XC1 Pro class points lead. Fellow Can-Am Maverick racers and Can-Am / JB Racing / Houser Racing teammates Larry Hendershot Jr. and Tim Farr joined him on the podium. Mouse Pratt took fourth in the class to give Can-Am the top four overall finishers on the day.

“The Can-Am Maverick 1000R side-by-side worked really good. The top four XC1 Pro class finishers were Can-Am and they are just dominating the woods racing scene right now. I’ve got a pretty good points lead, so I am hoping to keep getting podiums and get a repeat championship when it’s all done,” said Chaney.

Can-Am Maverick pilots also had great success in the other GNCC UTV classes, winning the XC2 Pro Sport (Dave Plavi; Offroad Motorsports / Wicked Bilt) and the Amateur Limited (Richard Travalena, Team Travalena) classes and earning four additional podiums. Can-Am Maverick drivers now own the top four spots in the XC1 Pro GNCC class, the top two spots in the XC2 Pro Sport class and the top spot in the Amateur Limited ranks.

In 4×4 ATV action, defending 4×4 Pro class champion and Renegade racer Bryan Buckhannon notched his seventh straight podium finish, earning second, to maintain his class points lead. Rob Smith joined him on the podium in third. Can-Am racers Ben Bruce (4×4 A/B) and Matt Ewart (4×4 C) also took home wins in West Virginia.

Arctic Cat, one of the most widely recognized and respected names in the snowmobile, ATV and Side-by-Side industry, will join Bass Pro Shops as the co-primary sponsor of Tony Stewart in the 31st annual NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race May 16 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

Stewart, the three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion, will make his 17th appearance in the All-Star Race Saturday night. Stewart won the 2009 All-Star Race, which was the first victory of any kind for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), the team Stewart co-owns with Haas Automation founder Gene Haas.

The field consists of race winners from the 2014 and 2015 Sprint Cup seasons, as well as former All-Star Race winners and Sprint Cup champions who are full-time competitors.

Team UXC Racing would head to Springville, Ind. for GNCC Racing’s Round 5, the Limestone 100 this past weekend and leave with two wins for the Scrambler 850.

It would be Michael Swift’s day taking the 4×4 Pro Class and morning overall on his Scrambler 850.

Off the start, Team UXC teammates Kevin Trantham and Swift quickly worked their way to the front of the class just in what was set to be a wet and slick day of racing.

Swift took the lead around the 4 mile marker on lap one with Trantham close behind. On the start of lap two, Swift managed to create a small gap between him and his class which he was able to build on each lap.

Despite the rain which made the course more difficult, Swift was able to hold his lead all the way to the checkered flag with 1 minute and 40 seconds to spare.

The win would be Swift’s first of the season and moved him into third place in the class standings for the year, with Trantham, who finished fifth, sitting in second.

Off a third place finish last race, Team UXC Racing’s 4×4 Senior Racer Don Higbee would also take the win on his Scrambler 850 for his first win of the season. Higbee sits in third for the season in the class.

The next GNCC race is the Tomahawk, in Odessa, NY, May 9-10, and the next UTV and Single Seat Race will be the Mountaineer, at Marvin’s Mountain Top, in Masontown, West Virginia, May 23-24.

The ITP Tires Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) racing team had an impressive weekend, tallying five wins and seven podiums, at a mud-caked Limestone 100 in Springville, Ind. Westley Wolfe put together his best race of 2015, earning a class victory and a top ATV amateur award at round five of the series in Indiana.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the amount of wins earned by our racers in such difficult conditions at the Limestone 100,” said Pat McGuire, Public Relations / Race Support. “Westley Wolfe, who has matured tremendously in just one year, put in a very impressive run in the mud, earning the Top ATV Amateur Award in the afternoon. And it was extremely nice to see Dave Simmons stretch his current winning streak to eight straight races, dating back to last year.”

Wolfe was the top finishing ITP racer in the afternoon session, finishing 12th overall among all racers, including XC1 Pro, and first in the College A (16-21) class.

Wolfe ran 6-ply ITP Holeshot GNCC tires on his Yamaha for their exceptional durability, superb traction and unbeatable ability to clean out. Wolfe has continued to make big strides in his first year in the afternoon (1p.m.) grouping, notching his second-straight victory and first top amateur award after missing the class podium at the first three rounds. He is now just five points out of the class points lead heading into the next round.

ITP racers earned two class wins in the 10 a.m. session and two other class victories in the Youth segment earlier in the day. Dave Simmons, the reigning Super Senior (45+) class champion led the way for ITP earning his fifth win of 2015 and eighth consecutive victory dating back to 2014.

He finished seventh overall in the muddy morning session, behind six 4×4 Pro class ATVs. Kenny Rich Sr. finished just one spot behind Simmons in the overall standings and notched his second straight Masters (50+) class win. The defending class champion now has three podium finishes in a row after a slow start to the season.

Youth division racers Jordan Digby and Keaton Henderson, each put their ATVs outfitted with ITP tires on top of their class podiums at round five. Digby won the 125 Sr. (12-15), while Henderson, won the 125 Jr. (8-11) class. Digby now has two wins on the year.

Two other ITP racers earned podiums in Indiana. Reigning WXC champion Angel Knox tallied her third podium of 2015, taking second and 10th overall for the morning session. The second-place finish was huge after her previous two rounds resulted in a Did Not Race and 10th. Youth racer Parker Henderson, who was third in the 90 (8-12) division, also got his third podium finish of the season in Indiana.

The fourth running of the Limestone 100 GNCC was held on the Lawrence County Recreational Facility property outside of Springville, which is less than 2 hours southwest of Indianapolis, the state capital. Almost 460 ATV racers, which included ATV Micro classes, entered the race. Round six of the AMSOIL GNCC series is slated for the weekend of May 9-10, with the Dunlop Tomahawk in Odessa, N.Y.

Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, recently donated a new Special Edition Matte Silver Viking VI Side-by-Side (SxS) vehicle to the SEAL-Naval Special Warfare Family Foundation.

The Assembled in USA Viking VI was auctioned at a Foundation fundraiser near San Diego, raising $22,000 for the organization’s mission of supporting SEAL members’ families.

Can-Am X-Team ATV and side-by-side vehicle racers swept both the 4×4 Pro and UTV XC1 Pro class podiums at the AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) race held in Union, S.C. Can-Am also scored two podium finishes this past weekend in the Lucas Oil Regional Racing Series in Arizona.

“Defending national champions Bryan Buckhannon, on the Renegade, and Maverick 1000R racer Kyle Chaney, did not disappoint in South Carolina, earning significant victories in their chase to repeat,” said Jeff Leclerc, Racing Project Leader, Can-Am. “Buckhannon regained the class points lead and Chaney is now second overall to Can-Am Maverick pilot Treavis Poynter in the UTV XC1 Pro class standings. In fact, Can-Am racers own the points lead in several classes with four rounds in the books, so we’re off to a good start in 2015.”

Chaney, 2014 GNCC UTV XC1 Pro class champion, notched his first victory of 2015, after posting three wins last year. Chaney was joined on the box by Can-Am Maverick / Offroad Motorsports racer Treavis Poynter and Can-Am / JB Racing / Houser Racing pilot Larry Hendershot, Jr. The three Ohio-based racers battled in the top three positions all afternoon at Big Buck, with Poynter leading all but the final lap. On a narrow course, heavily crowded with lappers, Chaney found his way around Poynter on the final lap to earn his first win.

“The Big Buck track was very hard to pass on. We did not get a real good holeshot, but by the end of the first lap I had worked up to second overall behind Treavis Poynter,” said Chaney. “I knew if I stayed steady and did not make any mistakes in the first few laps we could finish strong. Coming into the last lap we were down by 6 seconds. We both hit lappers on the last lap and I knew it was going to be a very close finish. We won by just under 2 seconds. Way to go Can-Am for a UTV Pro class podium sweep.”

Poynter ended up second, but, when paired with his first-place finish at round one of the UTV series, he currently owns a 13-point lead going into the next round. Hendershot’s first podium of 2015 moved him to fourth in the class standings.

Can-Am Maverick 1000R racers also own the UTV XC2 Pro Sport class points lead after the VP Racing Fuels Big Buck GNCC event. Can-Am / Jack’s Excavating driver Joe Krcelich finished fourth, but won round one and currently has a four-point cushion over Maverick racer Dave Plavi, who earned a third-place finish in South Carolina. Rich Travalena Jr., competing in the Amateur Limited class for Can-Am, notched his first victory and second podium of the year to climb to within one point of the class leader.

In 4×4 ATV action, Buckhannon convinced all competitors that he is out to replicate last year’s impressive title run, with a stellar wire-to-wire victory aboard his Can-Am Renegade 800R X xc.
Two other Renegade racers in Jordan Phillips and Zac Zakowski earned their first podiums of the season, finishing second and third, respectively, to complete the Big Buck podium sweep. Buckhannon has a nine-point lead heading into round five.

“My Can-Am Renegade pulled hard the entire race,” said Buckhannon. “The track was perfect and let the riders ride. At the end of the day, I am thrilled to come away with first place and the 4×4 Pro class points lead.”

Can-Am 4×4 racers also notched two other class wins and six total podium finishes. Forrest Whorton won the 4×4 Senior (40+) class, while Matthew Ewart took the 4×4 C class victory.
