Creamer Takes Points Lead With Round 10 Victory

0

Motoworks / Can-Am pro ATV racer Josh Creamer won both pro motos aboard his DS 450 ATV at round 10 of the 2011 New England ATV Motocross Series to take over the Pro class points lead.

Creamer put together two come-from-behind rides winning the mud-filled first moto and also the second Pro moto to post his fifth overall victory of the season, pushing his class points lead to 10 with only two rounds remaining.

“Creamer may not have gotten off to a good start in the motos, but he displayed the composure of a true champion as he rallied in the mud to notch two moto wins, take the overall victory and the overall Pro class points lead. Josh has won three straight races now and he definitely has his Can-Am dialed in,” said Jimmie O’Dell, Race Manager, Can-Am.

The first Pro class moto was delayed close to an hour as lightning and thunderstorms engulfed the Hurricane Hills motocross park in Clifford, Pa.

The track was left a water-logged mess, but the Pro class took to the line in spite of the conditions. Creamer was the last pro off the line, but quickly found his way into the top three.

After passing into second, Creamer then followed early moto leader, BCS Performance / Can-Am DS 450 racer Cody Miller, for a couple of laps before taking the lead and the win.

A missed shift put Creamer to the back of the class at the start of the second moto, however, Creamer pushed his DS 450 into the top three, again, and soon passed his way into second place.

He then passed for the lead later in the moto and held on for another overall victory and his fourth win the last five rounds of racing.

“The weather was horrible. There was a torrential downpour and lots of lightning before we were supposed to start lining up and they had to delay the race for an hour until it cleared. That made the track really muddy for the first pro moto,” said Creamer.

Miller finished second in the first Pro class moto, and paired that with a third-place ride in moto two. His 3-2 score was good for another trip to the podium. He also finished second overall in the Pro-Am class on the day, posting 2-2 moto scores.

“This has been an interesting season so far and the competition has been tough, but I am happy that I have made it to the podium almost every round,” said Miller.

Two rounds remain on the 2011 NEATV-MX schedule, with Round 11 slated for Sept. 18, at the MX 101 facility in Epping, N.H.

Oregon Dunes – Add it to Your Bucket List

0

Our friends at WARN Industries have been raving about the Oregon Dunes for years but after my recent taste of Glamis, I just couldn’t imagine dune riding getting any better than that. I stand corrected.

Recently the opportunity presented itself to visit Winchester Bay, OR and take a spin in the Oregon Dune National Recreation Area, so I jumped at it.

These legendary, wind-sculpted sand dunes tower to 500 feet above sea level and span 40 miles along the Pacific Oregon Coast.

Formed by the natural forces of wind, water and time they are the largest coastal sand dunes in North America and provide a playground for motorsports enthusiasts like no other.

The breathtaking landscape blends with lakes, rivers, forests and the Pacific Ocean, creating a magnificent ecosystem unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed.

You can ride in the wide open sand for hours or blast into the sandy forested trails that’ll take you steps away from the salt water. Dip your boots in the ocean, hop back on your quad and roost away in this giant sand box with the sun as your only compass.

Suddenly you come to the most amazing uninhabited fresh water lake that seems completely out of place but literally takes your breath away. Too good to be true, you say? You’ll just have to take my word for it or check it out for yourself.

If you need an excuse to make the trek to this destination perhaps this will push you over the edge. Home to perhaps the most organized ATV sand event in the world, DuneFest has been officially named “The Best Sporting Event in Oregon”.

DuneFest is a motorsports enthusiast’s idea of heaven with motocross racing, sand drags, poker runs, treasure hunts, show n’ shine, drive in movie night, freestyle shows and a charity auction.

Friday and Saturday nights at DuneFest features live entertainment while Vendor’s Row offers ATVs, clothing, crafts, ATV accessories and food for sale.

This family-friendly event offers a children’s safe ATV riding area and a free shuttle bus service from Winchester Bay.

ITP DELTA STEEL WHEEL FOR GRIZZLY

0

Many owners of Yamaha’s popular Grizzly ATV will be pleased to learn they now have more options when it comes time for wheel replacement.

ITP has just added two more choices to its proven Delta Series line of steel wheels, designed specifically for the 2007-2012 Grizzly 550 and 700.

Until now, steel wheels were not available anywhere for these models. ITP is a longtime expert in steel wheel manufacturing, and in fact is the only source for steel wheel fitment in today’s ATV/UTV aftermarket.

ITP’s Delta Series steel wheels are made in the USA and feature a lightweight D-window center design that is both attractive and strong.

Combine this high strength center with precision rolled rims and Delta steel wheels are in fact 35% stronger than OEM wheels. Perhaps most importantly, Delta steel wheels are priced very competitively against OEM wheels.

These Grizzly 550/700 wheel replacements are now available in 12×7 sizing and two color options: Silver (part number 1221753032) and Black (part number 1221753014).

These are both powdercoat finishes, which are much tougher and more corrosion resistant than standard paint. Chrome and black center caps are available for a final custom touch.

See your local ATV/UTV dealer today for even more information on ITP Delta Series steel wheels.

Since 1982, ITP has grown into the world’s #1 ATV/UTV aftermarket tire and wheel source, and continues to provide a complete line of innovative tires and wheels for virtually all ATVs and UTVs. Riding Yamahas In San Bernadino National Forest

0

The San Bernadino riding area continues to be one of my favorites. Even the most seasoned ATV rider will experience challenges at almost every turn.

I’ve seen fellow journalists take some serious get-offs and low and high speeds and even I’ve had some trouble with the dry, thin-air climate in these mountains. Rider errors aside though, the Yamaha ATVs and Rhinos have always functioned flawlessly.

Over the years Yamaha has been integral in bringing me to this area and I have to admit, I have only ridden Yamaha products here. My best estimation is that I’ve logged somewhere in the ballpark of 300 miles on these mountainous trails and rock faces over the years all on Yamaha ATVs and Rhinos.

The abuse these vehicles endure on this punishing terrain is testament to the quality of these Yamaha machines. Unless you’ve been here, you can only imagine what this experience is truly like. It’s a perfect blend of breath-taking beauty combined with technical riding unlike no other.

One thing I love about riding with the Yamaha crew is not only their riding abilities, but the passion for their product and deep-down faith every person who works for this segment of the company has in it.

Not many companies would take the chance on bringing every editor in the industry to one of the most challenging riding terrains imaginable and then proceed to ask them to please punish their product over and over again.

I’m happy to report that other than a couple of flat tires (that were rider errors), every Yamaha ATV and Side x Side we’ve tested here has performed perfectly – not one technical glitch ever. That’s a pretty awesome statement.

If you’re going to visit the SBNF and ride the trails, you’re going to also want to contact the San Bernardino National Forest Association and all that it does for the forest and OHV, including programs like Forest Care, Big Bear Discovery Center, OHV Patrol Volunteers and OHV Education Outreach.

2012 Amphibious ARGOs Tackle Any Terrain

0

ARGO is proud to continue their segment-shattering off-road dominance with a 2012 line-up offering the most versatile and durable off-road machines available today!

People who are passionate about riding off-road often discover that traditional ATVs and UTVs just can’t get the job done when used for accessing the remote areas that hunters and property owners’ dream of.

But the ARGO family of vehicles lets riders reign over any terrain! Owning an amphibious ARGO UTV gives outdoor enthusiasts and landowners the freedom to go anywhere, anytime with minimal impact.

ARGOs offer unmatched capability to carry friends and co-workers into remote areas, explore wild places despite physical limitations, and of course, pursue another hunting or fishing adventure lying just over the horizon. ARGO’s flagship model – the 750HDi – and other units in the ARGO fleet have the combined capabilities of a UTV, snowmobile and small boat.

It is a true all terrain vehicle that goes everywhere sportsmen want to. Whether putting up deer stands in flooded areas, bass fishing on a secret pond or hauling equipment into the Canadian bush, once you use an ARGO you’ll never switch back to riding with non-amphibious machines!

ARGOs are equipped with a premier suite of features, including seating for up to 6 people, large cargo storage, a proven-rugged amphibious design and a high-torque fuel-injected engine.

Today’s ARGO designs are both rugged and refined-forged by a master design team with decades of experience in the harshest places on earth-and beyond.

The ARGO line-up represents an engineering pinnacle, giving outdoor adventurers the power to tame whatever terrain they encounter.

CAN-AM OUTLANDER G2: Ride Quality Above and Beyond

0

The improvement in sway control on the Outlander G2 is immediately evident as is the incredible improvement in low-speed, small amplitude bump response.

The original TTi felt like it had too much preload in small bumps, even when preload was backed down to nothing.

The rear wheels were persistent in their determination to hop off the dirt, particularly when the throttle was chopped or left closed at mid-speed.

Now, the rear of the G2 stays in contact with the ground, throttle on or off and absorbs gnar like a Sleep Number Mattress set on 62.

The G2 also has a completely re-engineered IFS A-frame suspension up front. The new variable castor setup possesses geometric anti-dive properties that see the front of the G2 remain impressively level under hard braking.

This is accomplished by mounting the upper and lower A-arms in two none-parallel planes, which works in perfect concert with the new TTi out back, deliberately engineered to squat under hard acceleration, keeping the rear meats planted and digging.

The combination of increased compliance from the TTi and the anti-dive properties of the A-arm IFS working with a fully involved anti-sway bar are nothing short of a revelation for Can-Am.

This is now one of the best riding Sport Ute 4x4s in the biz, rivaling Polaris’ all-new Sportsman XP platform for smooth ride and precise handling.

POLARIS FLYING HIGH IN TOP SPOT

0

Polaris is now confidently proclaiming, when rolling its ATV and Ranger numbers together, it is the number one maker of “off-road vehicles” in the world.

From what we’ve heard Polaris ATV sales alone have the company in a virtual dead heat with Honda for number one ATV honors, with Yamaha in-tight at third and, as previously mentioned, Can-Am in fourth.

Obviously, this last statement has implications for any OEM without a SxS line-up.

The only manufacturer we see in this position is Suzuki and it makes us wonder if the company might have a new side-by-side up its corporate sleeve.

Only two years ago, pretty solid rumors spread Suzuki would partner with another manufacturer and introduce a “re-branded” SxS line-up.

Stay tuned.
