CAN-AM MAVERICK X3 TEAMS CONTINUE RACING DOMINANCE

Can-Am side-by-side vehicle and ATV racers continue to change the face of off-road racing with yet another dominating performance, winning in four different series this weekend across North America.

Cody Miller Wins WORCS Round 5

Factory Can-Am XPS racer Cody Miller notched his first SxS Pro class win of the season in the World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) held in Mesquite, Nev. The Texas native completed all seven laps in a little more than one hour to earn 25 points in his chase for a series championship. He now has 99 points and four podiums in five racers this season behind the wheel of his turbocharged Maverick X3 Turbo R. Hunter Miller joined his brother on the podium, earning second place, giving Can-Am a 1-2 finish in the class.

“We couldn’t be prouder to have finally taken a 1-2 WORCS SXS Pro class finish,” said Cody Miller, a former two-time national cross-country champion. “The real secret to our success is the Can-Am Maverick X3 and our supporting sponsors.”

Chaney Victorious at SxS Sports Spring Nationals

Kyle Chaney (Can-Am XPS) won moto two of the Pro Mod SxS A main event at the Monster Energy Chasing The Triple 2019 Spring Nationals held at Dirt City Motor Complex in Lena, Wis. Due to weather concerns, the promoters were forced to alter the weekend schedule and run both moto one and moto two on Saturday.

Chaney had an issue in the first moto but rebounded strongly to take the victory in the second moto. He completed 13 laps in a time of 19:05.771 in his Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo R to easily outdistance the competition. Scottie Lawrence (Can-Am XPS) joined Chaney on the box to give Can-Am another strong 1-2 finish.

“The Can-Am Maverick X3 just killed today in the second moto and this track is awesome,” said Chaney. “After moto one, I was really pressing for the win and had to remind myself to trust the car and it worked out for us.”

Weller Takes Round Two and Points Lead In Mexico

Arizona racer Corry Weller won the UTV Turbo class at round two of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Regional Racing Series (LOORRS) events held May 18-19, at Estero Beach Resort in Ensenada, Mexico. Weller, who competed in her Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo R, is seeking to repeat as the class champion. She left the Baja Peninsula as the class points leader heading into round 4.

Can-Am Renegade 4×4 Pros Sweep Wiseco John Penton

Can-Am Renegade X xc 1000R racers Jordan Phillips, Landon Wolfe and Rob Smith battled the mud and each other for four grueling laps at the 30th annual Wiseco John Penton Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) race in Millfield, Ohio. Phillips tallied his first 4×4 Pro class win of the season, ending Can-Am teammate Landon Wolfe’s season winning streak at five races. However, the runner-up finish helped Wolfe maintain his class points lead heading into round seven. Robert Smith finished third in the class to give him three podiums in 2019.

Can-Am ATV racers also swept the podiums in the other five GNCC ATV 4×4 classes.

American Honda and AFT Forge First Official Partnership

May 8, 2019 – DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.
American Flat Track and American Honda Motor Co. proudly announce the first official partnership between the powersports industry leader and AFT in over three decades. As the Series’ newest Official OEM Partner, American Honda has partnered with AFT to bring Honda’s revolutionary sport side-by-side—the Talon—to AFT fans across the country, naming the vehicle the Official Sport Side-by-Side of American Flat Track.

For decades, Honda has been at the forefront of development and production of high-performance dirt bikes. More recently, the Pioneer line diversified the product mix with the addition of several multipurpose side-by-side models. With the reveal of its Talon sport side-by-side last fall, Honda has found the perfect combination of high performance and adventure.

There are two distinct Talon models: the Talon 1000X and Talon 1000R. The 1000X model is designed to be agile and precise, handling nearly all applications with unparalleled maneuverability. The Talon R has a wider stance and increased suspension travel, making it especially well-suited for higher speeds and rougher terrain.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Honda in the American Flat Track series,” said Michael Lock, CEO of American Flat Track. “Honda’s prowess in engineering is unparalleled and their passion for racing over the last 60 years has delivered an incredible number of victories and created countless memories. We are looking forward to developing the relationship further and are excited to host and showcase the very impressive Talon at AFT race events across the country.”

The Talon’s designation as the Series’ Official Sport Side-by-Side will be evident at each round with its implementation as the new trackside support vehicle for Series officials. In addition, the vehicle will assist AFT in the conditioning of certain tracks as part of an enhanced track prep effort.

AFT will also be offering the Honda Talon Flat Track Experience to designated VIP guests and media. At the remaining events of the season, Al Lamb, owner of world-famous Al Lamb’s Dallas Honda, will rip the Talon around the racetracks to demonstrate the power and maneuverability of these off-road machines. Lamb’s accolades include multiple racing records; most notable is his current world record for fastest sit-on motorcycle at the Bonneville salt flats: 262.471 mph.

As an extension of its existing relationship with American Honda, the Richie Morris Racing team will reinforce its proud representation of the brand within the paddock by providing vehicle prep and logistics services for the Talon program between and at each round.

“We’re pleased to work with AFT to bring about this unique new program,” said Chris Cox, American Honda’s Manager of Experiential Marketing/Press. “The Talon has been a hit since its launch, and our hope is that it will provide between-race entertainment for fans of American Flat Track racing while also contributing to the track-prep efforts. We look forward to seeing the Talon on dirt ovals across the country.”

American Flat Track’s highly anticipated fifth round—the So-Cal Half-Mile presented by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys—returns to the iconic Southern California Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 11, 2019. Tickets start at just $40 online and kids 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at www.americanflattrack.com.

Yamahas GNCC University Returns to Snowshoe Mountain Resort

MARIETTA, Ga. – April 30, 2019 – Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, announces the return of Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) University. Hosted before round eight of the 2019 GNCC series at Snowshoe Mountain Resort in West Virginia from June 19 to 21, Yamaha is bringing together top off-road ATV and motorcycle racers to instruct in-depth courses on the fundamentals of racing.

A panel of professional instructors will head 80 students in several groups of ATV and motorcycle courses. Celebrating 25 years of racing at a pro-level, XC1 Pro ATV rider Johnny Gallagher will lead this year’s Yamaha Racing ATV instructors, along with four-time AMA National GNCC Champion Walker Fowler, and 11-time Women’s Class Champion Traci Pickens. Two-wheel courses will be led by seven-time AMA National Enduro Champion and AmPro Yamaha Racing team owner Randy Hawkins, along with five-time AMA National Hare Scramble Champion Jason Raines, XC1 rider Ricky Russell, and women’s WXC competitors Rachael Archer and Becca Sheets.

“Through GNCC University, participating riders of all skill levels learn ATV or motorcycle racing tips and techniques to put into practice on the track – and who better to acquire it from than current pros and hall-of-famers themselves,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s motorsports group marketing manager. “We’re excited to bring back this very special and unique opportunity to aspiring off-road racers, especially to where it originated years ago at Snowshoe.”

During the GNCC University, students will participate in lectures about sportsmanship, training, proper nutrition, and mental preparation, along with practicing how to tackle hills, grass tracks, woods, rocks, mud, and starts in a competitive setting. Groups will be determined according to bike size and rider skill level to ensure everyone is learning with comparable peers.

Reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis with 80 openings evenly split between ATV and Motorcycle disciplines. Tuition for GNCC University is $500 per student and includes room, board, and meals. For more details and to register, call the Snowshoe Mountain Resort at 877-441-4386.

Polaris Supports Team Rubicons Flooding Relief Efforts Following Winter Storm Ulmer

April 30, 2019 While most of the country prepared for the warmer temperatures that spring typically brings, many Midwest states were hunkered down for Winter Storm Ulmer, an intense storm that brought intense wind, blizzard-like conditions, and, in some areas, all-time record flooding due to increased river levels. The storm destroyed an estimated 16 million acres and caused billions of dollars in damage.

Team Rubicon, a veteran-led disaster response organization, is providing assistance and support to the residents of Pine Ridge Reservation, S.D. and Nebraska communities located in Sarpy, Cass, Colfax, and Platte Counties. To help Team Rubicon with their efforts, Polaris® donated six RANGER® utility side-by- side vehicles to help with flooding relief efforts in South Dakota and Nebraska.

“Working with Polaris during a disaster like Winter Storm Ulmer, which brought massive amounts of damage across the Midwest, has a great impact on the mission of Team Rubicon and the survivors that we are serving,” said Brian Meagher, Strategic Partnerships Officer at Team Rubicon. “The ability to come in as a force multiplier to assist Team Rubicon in helping more people is what it is all about.”

Team Rubicon’s crew uses the RANGER vehicles to access remote areas, conduct damage assessments and assist affected residents. These vehicles have also helped with hauling fallen trees and clearing debris to allow access for larger machinery.

“We’re humbled by the great work Team Rubicon has done and continues to do whenever a disaster strikes, and we are grateful for the opportunity to contribute
RANGER vehicles to support their efforts,” said Kyle Duea, Vice President of Off-Road Vehicles at Polaris. Polaris, a world leader in powersports, has a long history of supporting disaster relief efforts through work with organizations, such as Team Rubicon, and through our ongoing partnership with The Salvation Army and their Polaris Rescue and Relief Fleet.

Team Rubicon boasts a 90,000-strong, highly skilled volunteer force that helps communities stabilize and recover after a devastating natural disaster. Since its inception following the 2010 Haiti earthquake, Team Rubicon has responded to 325 disasters, including Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria, Florence, and Michael.
