2019 SNORE Battle At Primm

Prepped and loaded Thursday night, the RWS / DirtTrax / Ultimate Terrain Can-Am team was ready to take on the next SNORE race: Battle at Primm.

Drivers Mitchell Alsup and Bradley Howe were looking to clinch their second win this season after locking down the W last month.

Short of the Cognito Motorsports tuned shock package and Assault Industries safety products they’ve installed, their Can-Am Maverick X3 Xrs is nearly stock.

Battle at Primm is a two day event running the same 60 mile course each day.

On day one, Howe was in the driver’s seat. The green flag dropped with Howe starting mid-pack in class. Within the first 20 miles, Howe moved through the field taking the lead. The course was extremely muddy and the car was covered with it but Howe never let up.

Over the next forty miles, his lead on the pack grew. Howe settled into a groove, conserving the car while maintaining a comfortable lead, taking the checkered flag with a flawless run.

The team prepped the Can-Am Maverick X3 Xrs for day two, checking every nut, bolt and joint. Prep for the second day is very important because a bad run or DNF could throw out the entire weekend. All systems checked out for day two prep and the team was ready for battle again.

On the line Sunday morning, Alsup took the green flag, starting first in class. Car owner Doug Robison instructed Alsup to overall the heat – meaning Alsup would not only need to win the class but beat all the faster vehicles a class above in his heat.

Alsup took an early lead in his class with eyes set on the overall position. At about race mile 30 the RWS / DirtTrax / Ultimate Terrain Can-Am took the overall spot and Alsup drove to the overall finish without an issue!

This team brings home its second well-deserved win in the 2019 SNORE series.

Can-Am Maverick X3 Racers Dominate 2019 UTV WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

– Blurton Wins Historic Third Consecutive UTVWC UTV Pro Turbo Class Title
– Miller Captures UTV Short Course Race Victory; Chaney Runner-up
– Racer Nasser Al-Attiyah Wins Afriquia Merzouga Rally With Maverick X3 SSV
– Maverick X3 Turbo R Lands on SCORE International San Felipe 250 Podium

VALCOURT, QUEBEC, CANADA, Monday, April 9, 2019 – Behind a third-consecutive UTV Pro Turbo class win by racer Phil Blurton and a stellar UTV Short Course victory by fellow Can-Am Maverick X3 racer Cody Miller, Can-Am dominated the 2019 UTV World Championship races, winning five classes, in Laughlin, Nev. Can-Am racers also competed around the world over the weekend, earning a win at the 2019 Afriquia Merzouga Rally in Morocco, Africa, and tallying another podium at the SCORE International San Felipe 250 in held on the Baja Peninsula in Mexico.

“This was a statement-making weekend for us, winning the two main Pro classes here in Laughlin, but also grabbing three other wins and making history in the process,” said Jeff Leclerc, Team Leader, Can-Am race department. “Blurton and Judge continue to impress behind the wheel of the industry’s most formidable platform. Three straight UTV World Championship trophies is huge for Phil, our racing program and the Can-Am brand.”

The 2019 UTV World Championship race, which serves as round three of the 2019 Best In The Desert race series, easily had more than 400 entries and what many described as one of the toughest courses in years. All eyes were on defending two-time UTV Turbo champion class Phil Blurton, who has had great success at the UTVWC. Blurton and (co-dawg) Beau Judge didn’t disappoint as the tandem piloted their No. 944 Can-Am XPS No Limit RD Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo R side-by-side vehicle to the UTV Turbo class win, making history. No other Pro level racer had ever posted three straight wins, but Blurton drove his turbocharged Can-Am to new heights.

“This was a fantastic race for us, as the our No Limit RD-prepped Can-Am Maverick X3 performed flawlessly and helped us win three straight,” said Blurton. “With the level of competition and number of entries continuing to increase, it just proves our determination and the performance of the Can-Am are as formidable as they come.”

Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo R pilots Derek and Jason Murray (Can-Am ITP Murray Brothers) continued their impressive driving in BITD competition, earning third in the UTV Turbo class, finishing less than 10 minutes behind their Can-Am teammate. William Long (sixth) and Cole Freiday (ninth) also completed all 10 laps in their Can-Am Maverick X3 vehicles to secured top 10 finishes Saturday evening.

Australian Brett Comiskey (Comiskey Mining Services LSR Can-Am), the reigning BITD UTV Unlimited champion, notched his own remarkable 10-lap victory in the Nevada desert, winning his class and crossing the finish with co-pilot Daniel McKenzie in just under three hours and 30 minutes. Racer Michael Isom and James Konces (Mobbin’ Racing No Limit RD Can-Am) grabbed the holeshot and then the runner-up spot in the UTV Unlimited class, just ahead of another Maverick racer in third-place finisher Jeramiah Drew

Can-Am Maverick X3 racers also had great success in both the UTV Rally and UTV S ranks, earning two wins. Justin Bor and his co-driver Abbie Farris got the day started by winning the UTV Rally class, completing all six laps and winning by more than a minute. Cameron and Logan Meister also scored a victory in the five-lap UTV Sportsman race.

Sunday was reserved for short course racing and former ATV motocross racer and former two-time Grand National Cross Country champion Cody Miller had his Maverick X3 Turbo R locked in. Miller battled with his Can-Am Factory teammates Kyle Chaney, and his brother Hunter Miller, but eventually outlasted everyone to record his first UTVWC title. The Texan completed eight laps in roughly one hour and four minutes to earn the win. Chaney finished second, just eight seconds behind, giving Can-Am another 1-2 podium finish.

“This Maverick X3 is one tough vehicle and was perfect today. I couldn’t be happier with the results,” stated Miller. “I’m pumped to finish on top of the podium against this field of talented racers in the one of the most prestigious racers I’ve ever competed in.”

MONSTER ENERGY CAN-AM’S CURRIE AND VARELA DOMINATE T3 CATEGORY IN ABU DHABI; FINISH FOURTH AND FIFTH OVERALL

ABU DHABI (UAE): The Monster Energy Can-Am Team enjoyed a sensational team performance at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, the punishing five-day second round of the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies.

American Casey Currie and Brazilian Reinaldo Varela dominated the T3 category and became embroiled in an epic duel for supremacy in their Monster Energy Can-Am Maverick X3s. They eventually reached the finish in fourth and fifth in the overall classification and well clear of their rivals in the T3 category.

Currie led for four of the five days and eventually reached the finish podium at the Yas Marina race circuit in Abu Dhabi with a winning margin of 72 seconds, but Varela – the winner of the opening round in Qatar in February – won two of the specials and led by 43 seconds after the penultimate stage.

The contest started well for Currie and his French co-driver Laurent Lichtleuchter. They carded the fastest time on the opening selective section of 261.97km that was held in a sandstorm, where strong winds reduced visibility on the route through the first sand dunes between Abu Dhabi and the bivouac in Liwa.

The American took a lead of 68 seconds into the first of the loop stages through the towering sand dunes in the UAE’s Empty Quarter. But Varela and fellow Brazilian Gustavo Gugelmin hit back strongly with the fastest time on that 222.80km special and reduced Currie’s overall lead to just nine seconds.

Currie managed to take advantage of his favourable starting position behind his teammate to set another quickest time on the second dune loop of 297.97km, despite punishing heat and unforgiving sand, and he reached the bivouac with an increased advantage of 70 seconds.

Once again, starting positions came to the fore on the fourth stage and the last of the Liwa loop sections of 286.10km and Varela hit back strongly to claim the fastest time by 1min 53sec and claim a 43-second outright lead.

It was all to play for on the shorter final selective section of 214.47km and Currie delivered the coup de grace with the fastest time on the run back to Abu Dhabi to claim a narrow win by the margin of 72 seconds. Varela’s consolation was maintaining his outright lead in the FIA World Cup’s T3 category.

Varela said: “It was a tough day and Casey caught us on the 160km mark and we battled throughout to keep in front of him. It has been an incredibly exciting battle with these guys over the past five days and 2,000km of dunes and desert.”

Scott Abraham of the Monster Energy Can-Am Team said: “This was a dominant race for the team. Casey and Reinaldo delivered a heated battle throughout the event. It shows the pace of the two drivers to finish the race with such a close gap.

“A big thanks to all the mechanics for keeping the Mavericks in perfect condition to enable the drivers to race like they raced. Monster Energy Can-Am showed again that it continues to build upon its reputation from the Dakar. This is now the second FIA Cross-Country victory for the car and we are looking forward to Kazakhstan at the end of May.”

The Monster Energy Can-Am duo were the only drivers to finish the event in the T3 category without incurring major time penalties and they had a massive lead over the third-placed Russian Fedor Vorobyev and the rest of the chasing pack.

Yamaha ATV and Side-by-Side bLU cRU Racers Starting Strong in 2019

MARIETTA, Ga. – March 25, 2019 – Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, supported ATV and Side-by-Side (SxS) racers are taking an early lead in 2019, kicking off a number of series with notable bLU cRU wins already this year.

“There’s no secret to success other than the power, performance, and durability Yamaha provides, combined with the highest level of talent, determination, and grit these racers bring to the track each and every round,” said Donnie Luce, Yamaha’s MX / ATV / Off-Road Coordinator. “This will be another exciting season for Yamaha Racing, the bLU cRU team, and all devoted motorsports fans.”

Yamaha’s pure sport YXZ1000R carried a number of wins in recent weeks from the short course Lucas Oil track to the icy opening round of SXS Sports. Brock Heger, the 2017 and 2018 Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series (LOORRS) Production 1000 UTV Class national champ started right where he left off, securing the top spot in the LOORRS opening round at Glen Helen Raceway in his BH Motorsports / Yamaha / Weller Racing / Maxxis YXZ1000R. In the same weekend at the Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Racing SoCal series, longtime Yamaha veteran Dustin Nelson brought home the Production 1000 regional trophy after securing the overall win in his YXZ1000R.

Shifting gears to SXS Sports’ Chasing the Triple, a new series featuring ice, short course, and cross-country SxS racing, YXZ drivers Scott Wasz, Jake Lunderby, and Rodney VanEperen, owned the podium in first, second and third, respectively, in the Pro Stock class presented by Yamaha at USAir Motorsports Raceway. Now Scott Wasz is the only bLU cRU racer eligible to win a YXZ1000R if he’s able to clinch the Pro Stock class and win every round.

In YFZ450R racing, Walker Fowler, four-time GNCC XC1 Pro ATV champion, and Cole Richardson finished first and second, respectively, in the GNCC’s sandy opening round at Wild Boar in Palatka, Florida. Fowler, racing his WFR / GBC / Fly Racing YFZ450R, continued his streak with another win at The General, round two of the series in Washington, Georgia, on March 17. Traci Pickens, the winningest woman in ATV racing with an unprecedented 11 WXC ATV GNCC championships, quickly turned things around at round two and captured the top WXC ATV spot at The General.

“We want to send a big shout out and congratulations to Yamaha Racing’s Johnny Gallagher, who has been competing in GNCC’s Pro class for 25 years. This is such an amazing accomplishment and overall testament to his passion for the sport,” Luce said.

Yamaha’s bLU cRU racer support program has announced more than $100,000 in SxS and ATV racing championship bonuses for 2019. Racers competing in select series with their pure sport YXZ1000R or podium- topping YFZ450R models will be eligible for payout after registering online at YamahabLUcRU.com. Once approved, racers will receive a reloadable Yamaha bLU cRU debit card, $45 credit on their bLUcRUswag.com account for bLU cRU apparel, and are qualified to receive championship bonuses paid directly to their bLU cRU card.
