Honda Unveils All-New Talon 1000X and Talon 1000R

0

During a special event held in conjunction with Honda’s Automobile Division, and coinciding with the L.A. Auto Show, American Honda today confirmed its entry in the sport side-by-side segment, unveiling the all-new Talon 1000X and Talon 1000R models.

For decades, Honda has set the standard for high-performance dirt bikes with its CR and CRF lineups, and more recently the Pioneer family has introduced unmatched capability to the multipurpose side-by-side category. Now, Honda’s highly anticipated Talon models marry the two worlds, bringing a new level of off-road excitement, precision, performance and quality to sport side-by-side driving.

Drawing on countless hours of collaborative development in both two- and four-wheel design and racing, as well as automotive and motorcycle manufacturing knowhow and safety expertise, the Talons push the envelope of what is possible in a production sport side-by-side.

Aware that a single offering would be a compromise for some conditions and driving styles, Honda developed two versions of the Talon, each of which works across a broad array of conditions but specializes in a different area of the off-road spectrum.

The two vehicles share a common frame and engine but have wheelbases and suspension configurations that are designed to shine in different applications. Both models function at a high level in a wide variety of terrain types, bringing a new level of control, style and refinement to a sport side-by-side market that is hungry for innovation, reliability and an improved driving experience.

“For some time now, our customers have told us they’re ready to purchase a high-performance sport side-by-side from Honda, and I’m particularly pleased that we’re now able to offer them not one, but two all-new models,” said Chuck Boderman, Vice President, Motorcycle Division at American Honda. “We know that many sport side-by-side enthusiasts own Honda powersports products of other types or have a strong emotional connection with our brand. Now, the Talon 1000X and Talon 1000R—both U.S.-developed and -produced sport side-by-sides that are uniquely capable and incredibly reliable—connect these worlds.”

Pricing information will be announced in January.

TALON 1000X

At 64.0 inches wide, the Talon 1000X is maneuverable and precise. Its 2.0-inch body Fox Podium Quick Switch 3 shocks (QS3) have 5/8-inch shafts and combine with the double-wishbone front-suspension design and 3 Link rear system to offer suspension travel of 14.6 and 15.1 inches, front and rear.

The one-piece frame retains consistent geometry even when pushed under the hardest loads, for a controlled, confidence-inspiring ride. A performance-tuned 999cc four-valve Unicam® parallel-twin engine works with Honda’s high-tech, geared Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), which offers two automatic modes (Drive and Sport), plus Manual with steering-column-mounted paddle shifters.

Honda’s I-4WD, the powersports industry’s first and only brake traction control system, manages the amount of slip between the front wheels in four-wheel drive, and electronic brakeforce distribution strategically optimizes brakeforce to the most effective wheels during braking in two-wheel drive.

Hill-start assist temporarily holds the vehicle in place when stopped on an ascent, simplifying the process of resuming motion. As a package, the Talon 1000X is incredibly agile and sure-footed, yet it performs admirably in a broad range of applications.

TALON 1000R

Designed to excel when bump absorption and high-speed tracking are the priority, the Talon 1000R shares 85% of its parts with the Talon 1000X, including the entire 999cc parallel-twin engine and one-piece frame, yet it diverges when it comes to vehicle width (68.4 inches—4.4 inches wider than its sibling), wheelbase (5 inches longer than the X) and suspension arrangement.

The Talon 1000R has a double-wishbone front-suspension layout and a 4+ Link rear configuration, while the shocks are 2.5-inch body Fox Podium QS3 units that have 17.1 and 20.1 inches of front and rear suspension travel, respectively, or 2.1 and 5 inches more than the 1000X.

The combination results in remarkable performance in diverse situations, but is particularly impressive in high-speed, rough conditions.

First ARGO Aurora XTVs Roll Off Production Line and Into Dealerships

0

(NEW HAMBURG, NOVEMBER 26, 2018) — The first 2019 ARGO Aurora 800 8x8s began rolling off the assembly line in New Hamburg, Ontario, in November 2018, setting into motion a bold new direction in amphibious vehicle performance from a company that’s pushed the boundaries in off-road adventure for more than 50 years. ARGO commemorated the milestone event with a gathering of employees who designed, tested and assembled the 2019 Aurora 800.

“Aurora is a giant leap towards pushing new boundaries of adventure for off-road enthusiasts,” said Brad Darling, ARGO President. “It was a huge success when we introduced it at our EXPO, because it exceeds our customers’ expectations for innovation and performance of an XTV (Xtreme Terrain Vehicle). Dealers have been waiting for the Aurora to hit their showfloors. Well, the wait is over. The first Aurora left the factory today!”

The new-for-2019 line of next-generation Aurora XTVs is the culmination of the most intensive development process in ARGO history, involving in-depth surveys of thousands of riders who hunt, fish, explore and play off-road. Their expectations and desires guided the features and performance that engineers worked to deliver.

The result is a line-up of five 2019 Aurora 8-wheel models reflecting a clean-sheet design of every system and component. An all-new amphibious body provides greater performance in water and on land. The new ARGO Progressive Steering system delivers ultra-smooth and confident steering that is as comfortable to drive as a UTV. And automotive-inspired improvements in seating, cockpit controls, LED headlights, clean EFI 4-stroke engines and other innovations deliver the next level of comfort and convenience.

Production will continue on Aurora models as well as all-new 2019 Bigfoot, Avenger, Conquest and Frontier models to meet the growing demand for ARGO XTVs. The worldwide network of ARGO dealers began receiving 2019 models in September.

Can-Am Goes ALL IN With Elite Maverick X3 Side-by-Side vehicle Teams at 2019 Dakar Rally

0

– Official Monster Energy / Can-Am Team Announced Today
– Behind-The-Scenes Coverage, Live Updates and 3-Part Casey Currie Video Series
– 20+ Racers from Multiple Countries Competing in Can-Am Maverick X3 Vehicles

VALCOURT, QUEBEC, CANADA, Nov. 20, 2018 – Can-Am announced today a new Monster Energy / Can-Am racing team that will compete in the 2019 Dakar Rally. The three-racer squad features American Casey Currie, reigning Dakar champion Reinaldo Varela and racer Gerard Farrés. As part of the Dakar effort Can-Am will attend the race to capture the defiant 172-hp, turbocharged Can-Am Maverick X3 side-by-side vehicle in action, provide social updates and produce a three-part documentary series about Currie and his Dakar experience.

Can-Am will also field a talented South Racing / Can-Am team and several other support drivers in its pursuit of back-to-back Dakar titles. Can-Am, the defending side-by-side category champion, is returning to the Dakar Rally in full force January 6-17, in South America with a field of more than 20 professional racers.

“Dakar is about overcoming difficulties through persistence. It’s about an unyielding, all-out effort to finish something you started. At BRP, we carry this same determination and internal drive to win in everything we do. The Can-Am Maverick X3 vehicle was engineered with this attitude, and to this day provides our racers with the supreme confidence that they will prevail against all odds,” said Olivier Camus, Can-Am global marketing director. “Winning Dakar and to repeat as champions is our objective. Our team is trained to endure the rigors of the world’s toughest race, and our racers are just built for this! We have a deep connection with them and we value their stories, the families and camaraderie involved in this effort. As a global Can-Am family, we’re all in this monumental adventure together.”

Monster Energy / Can-Am Dream Team
Can-Am has joined forces with Monster Energy and South Racing to build a Dakar Rally dream team. Leading the way is defending Dakar SxS category champion, Reinaldo Varela. The Brazilian piloted a Maverick X3 Turbo R side-by-side vehicle to a historic victory earlier this year in its first ever running of Dakar, earning him and co-pilot Gustavo Gugelmin respect around the world.

Casey Currie will be representing North America. The U.S. racer earned his Dakar series stripes this year by earning the fastest qualifier and stage win at the Merzouga Rally and then solidified his off-road legend status with a win at the Desafio Inca Challenge (Dakar Series) in Sept. 14-16 in Peru. Gerard Farrés and co-driver Dani Oliveira are no strangers to Dakar series success, having just scored a runner-up finish in October at the Rally du Maroc in Morocco, so they’re amped and ready to take on Dakar and all challengers.

Casey Currie – Off-Road Icon’s First Dakar Rally
To capture Currie’s first attempt at conquering Dakar and fulfilling a lifelong dream Can-Am will produce a three-part documentary series about the off-road icon, from preparation to the finish line. The first video, “Born to Race,” launched today and digs into how he started racing, its impact on his life and more about his motor sports family. Part 2, “Preparing for Dakar,” Currie recaps the knowledge gained for Dakar from his previous efforts at both the Merzouga and Inca rallies. The final installment called “It’s ON!” is a planned behind-the-scenes effort to explain his determined effort to prepare for Dakar, from his family’s backing, the travels, race planning and up to the starting line.

South Racing / Can-Am and More
South Racing / Can-Am, led by manager Scott Abraham, has its own fast five for the 2019 Dakar Rally in Hernan Garces / Juan Pablo Latrach, Miguel Jordão / Lourival Roldan, Ellen Lohr / Anton de Roissard, Ricardo Porem, Thomas Ourrednicek / David Nipal. This exceptional team has dozens of combined years of racing experience, has driven an assortment of diverse vehicles (karts, cars, trucks, semis, etc.) and has witnessed firsthand both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, so it’s primed and ready for Dakar.

In all, the 20+ Can-Am racers will represent at least 10 different countries creating a global family not only linked together by their determination to defeat Dakar but also the vehicle they choose to compete in.

Maverick X3 Side-by-Side Vehicle: Perfect for Dakar
The Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo R side-by-side vehicle immediately verified its stance as the most prodigious vehicle on the planet when it won the inaugural 2018 Dakar SxS category title in its first ever entry. With its Dakar series rally racing wins, its several huge desert racing victories in North American and the abundant U.S. off-road national championships the Maverick has also earned, this season has further cemented its status as the most desirable racing side-by-side vehicle on the planet.

The Can-Am Maverick X3 side-by-side vehicle, with its powerful turbocharged 172-hp Rotax engine, and is the ideal platform for Dakar and all its challenges because it was engineered for the desert. Its aggressive, future-forward design puts the driver in control at the heart of the vehicle, connecting them as one. Dakar has proven to be downright exhausting to man and machine, but the Can-Am Maverick X3 side-by-side vehicle and its relentless character are ready for the world’s toughest race, which is spread out over 5,000 kilometers (3,106 miles) and lasts 11 days.
