Have Workhorse, Will Play

Think John Deere and you automatically think tractors. Can’t help it; it’s likely because they sell thousands of tractors and have for decades.

The Trail Buck EXT is powered by a SOHC Rotax 4-TEC, reverse mounted 4-stroke single. Fed by a single Mikuni BSR 33mm carb, the liquid cooled powerplant rounds up to 644ccs of extremely potent, torquey displacement. Power pushes through a belt driven CVT into a sub-transmission featuring high, low, neutral, reverse and park options.

The chassis of the Trail Buck EXT is stretched 16 inches longer than its standard length Buck siblings. This extra length allows its spacious, plastic dump box to be loaded down without sacrificing fore and aft stability.

Although the Trail Buck EXT is intended to be a capable workhorse, it can be effectively trial ridden as well. With an independent double A-arm front suspension yielding 7 inches of preload adjustable travel and a swing axle out back with 7.5 inches of preload adjustable travel, the ride is decent on moderately rough to smooth surfaces.

We’ll call it as we see it. The John Deere Trail Buck EXT is a fantastic tool for making work easier. It can also make tiring chores fun. It’s rugged, durable and powerful and has all the right features for tough farm and job site duty.

Yes, it’s capable of recreational trail use on the weekends. However, it’s not intended or designed to be a sport-ute for aggressive trail riders. When work is the first priority, and trail riding comes second you’ll be more than happy with the surprisingly versatile Trail Buck EXT.
