Press Release –

Team Suzuki Yoshimura Pro rider Dustin Wimmer dominated the ITP QuadCross series opener at Glen Helen this weekend. Wimmer won his qualifying race and holeshot and won the main in convincing fashion. A huge turnout of riders faced a challenging track that featured all the National obstacles.

“We’re in town for some testing,” Wimmer said. “We decided to drop in and do the race. We learned a lot and it was pretty fun.”

In fact, such a large number of Pros showed up, that event organizers had to run two heats to thin down the field.

Alba Suzuki rider Kory Ellis dominated the first qualifier heat over Dustin Nelson and a slew of California hot shoes. Ellis was on fire as he blistered the famous Glen Helen circuit.

The next qualifier saw Keith Little snag the holeshot just ahead of Suzuki Yoshimura rider Wimmer.

Two laps later Wimmer passed Little in the esses section and never relinquished the lead. The two were close the entire race but Wimmer crossed the line first.

The wind had really picked up between the qualifiers and the final. Gusts of up to 70mph ripped through the hills of Glen Helen, making it even more challenging.

The Pro final gate dropped with Wimmer in the lead. Within a lap he had pulled a large gap and poured it on. By lap three, Wimmer had checked out and all eyes turned to Ellis charging up from about an 8th place start. Towards the end of the race Ellis had disposed of everyone except Wimmer and Little.

Wimmer was gone, but the former GNC Glen Helen Champ Ellis was on the gas. He caught Little on the last lap but fell short of second spot by just a few feet.

Team Suzuki Yoshimura engine builder Ryan Cox was happy with the performance. “We are trying to put the power where Dustin likes it,” Cox said. “Today we were testing our new 99decibel AMA legal pipe… we have plenty of power, but are still testing to see where it suits Wimmer best. With Gust, (WPSA Champion Doug Gust), we know exactly how he likes the power band. We’re still working it out with Dustin, and we are closing in on what he likes more every day. We will be ready for the WPSA opener.”
