Tire Upgrade for 2007 Honda Rubicon

Question:

I have 2007 Rubicon and nobody else I know has one. I’m thinking about putting 26×10 tires on the front and 26×12 tires on the rear. I do not plan on jetting it or do anything else except the tires for awhile.

I think the Rubicon will handle this without any problems. Do you agree?

Thanks,

Response:

Thanks for your email!

The tires you have selected will work on your Rubicon although you will experience a decrease in throttle response and in take-off power.

The larger diameter wheels mathematically mess-up the OEM tranny and differential ratios. This happens anytime you increase wheel diameter. The consequences are usually zero – although you will miss the power at take-off.

Although you won’t know it, your top speed will increase but the speedo will not verify it. Your speedo doesn’t know what 26 inch tires are so you’ll have to compare to a friends ATV and get a baseline for the correction factor.

I would suggest you use the Rincon’s multiple shift/ratio system to reduce tranny loading when crawling in tight stuff. This will keep heat from building in the hydrostatic tranny and will make crawling much easier on the driveline.
