Yamaha Announces Winner of YXZ Supercross Sweepstakes

KENNESAW, Ga. – May 1, 2017 – Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, announces the winner of the 2017 YXZ Supercross Sweepstakes for the 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season.

Wyatt Bevans of Hesperia, CA was randomly selected as the winner of the YXZ Supercross Sweepstakes. He receives an unprecedented package featuring an all-new 2017 YXZ1000R SS (Sport Shift) Side-by-Side (SxS) and a VIP trip to the 2017 Supercross finale in Las Vegas, which includes VIP race tickets, pit passes, track-walk, swag bags, a meet-and-greet autograph session with Miss Supercross and two-time AMA Supercross champion Chad Reed, as well as a tour of the Yamaha race team’s semi.

Bevans, an avid off-road and Yamaha fanatic, shared his enthusiasm upon receiving the news: “I couldn’t believe it. I never win anything. You always enter these things thinking that it would be amazing if you won, but you never think that it would actually be you.”

“Everyone at Yamaha is very excited for Wyatt, especially after hearing how much of an enthusiast he is for the sport and Yamaha,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s ATV / SxS group marketing manager. “We’re looking forward to hearing about his VIP Supercross experience, and can’t wait to see him in his new Sport Shift YXZ.”

Yamaha kicked off 2017 launching the YXZ Supercross Sweepstakes in January. The YXZ1000R SS, which quickly became a fan-favorite of powersports enthusiasts, is the world’s first and only SxS to combine pure-sport performance with an exciting and high-tech paddle shifting experience. Boasting the same industry-first three- cylinder 998cc engine and unparalleled direct-connection feeling as the original YXZ, the YXZ1000R SS features Yamaha’s confidence-inspiring Sport Shift technology. The SS technology is defined by a five-speed sequential shift transmission with an advanced automatic clutch system and pure-sport inspired paddle shifters – eliminating the need for a clutch pedal and removing your foot from the accelerator while shifting.

YOUTH ATV MARKET IS RED HOT

0

I don’t know what the resale landscape looks like where you live but here at DirtTrax world headquarters it’s crazy, crazy for kids ATVs!

No, I’m not talking about the dollar store junk that falls apart before your kid even swings a leg over it, rather the quality stuff with the big brand names on it.

My 5-year-old daughter cut her teeth on a 120cc snowmobile this past winter and is ready to go on four wheels. She also has a little sister on her heels who will want to ride too, but what do you buy, what do you spend and what’s a good deal?

The first place I started looking was the online classifieds. I had to wade through a sea of junk ads but there is some goodness in there. The unfortunate part is when you finally find a name brand 50 or 90cc kid’s wheeler, you also find some sticker shock. Used stuff is red hot!

Although I was a little frustrated to learn a late 1980’s Suzuki Quadrunner 50 with cracked plastic, no suspension, kick-start and about 25 years of gunk built up on it was fetching an insane $950, I was also quite pleased to discover people are buying their kids ATVs.

Most ads I replied to told me, “I sold it the first day” or, “Full price, if you want it, bring cash today. It’ll be gone tomorrow” – and it was.

This isn’t just in our neck of the woods, either. I searched an 8-hour drive radius from my home and got the same answers. I guess it means Daddy is going to be paying a premium this year!

Whenever I set out to buy something for my kids I always do the concerned parent thing and look at all the potential problems and hazards. When it came to buying an ATV, I quickly realized, while I lived through the ATVs of the 1980s and 90s, my kids were going to have something easier to use, more fun and ultimately safer.

While many brands offer a variety of vehicles for kids, I have a great relationship with our local Polaris dealer and made it my first call.

I settled on a Polaris Outlaw 50 fully understanding my kids will only use this for a few years until we need to upgrade to a 90.

The little Outlaw has quite a bit of bang for your buck and comes with a helmet, a whip flag and a tether for the little one’s wrist.

Of equal importance is the speed limiter that allows parents to easily and quickly select one of two modes: 1) Restricted – offering under 10-mph operation and 2) Unrestricted – up to 15-mph.

It also has electric start, real working headlights, full bodywork, 3.7-inches of travel out back and 3-inches up front. If my kids are anything like me they will have the wheels off the ground at some point!

At the end of the day I spent about $2500 on a brand new ATV for my kids. A used 6 to 10-year-old 4-stroke without most of the cool features would have only saved me about $500.

I didn’t mind spending the extra. My kids are going to run the wheels off this little Outlaw and I know it’ll be a reliable runner for years to come.

Most important, above everything, I know my girls will be engaged in a sport that helped shape my life. They’ll be riding with their family and learning skills that will entertain them for the rest of their life.

I think that’s time and money well spent!

KYMCO GNCC Racing Update

The GNCC series finished its swing through Georgia and the Carolinas, with Justin Wood taking the class win twice with a second place finish in between, on his KYMCO MXU 700i, in the 4×4 Lites ATV class. Just what is the difference between a sport and a utility ATV?

Rarely is a race without incident between the trees and wild terrain, and at the Sparta, Georgia Maxxis Cannonball event on March 25, Wood won the hard way. After nailing the holeshot and leading the field, Wood hit a short stump. Wood said, “The race started off right with the holeshot. And after making some good passes to get around quads in other classes that started ahead of me, I ran into some trouble when I clipped a small stump. It bent both of my lower A-arm bolts and took out the power steering. So we just maintained the lead, pitting to adjust and repair as much as we could, which dropped us back in the overall. We still ended up taking the win, making the KYMCO 3 and 0 at this point.”

At the FMF Steele Creek round, where Wood took second and at the only race so far this season that he didn’t win. Wood told us, “Again I had a great start and got the holeshot. I was trying a different set-up this time and running a non-power steering unit. By the last lap I had over an 8:30-minute lead when the bike shut off. I was in the woods for around 21 minutes trying to locate and fix the issue. Two wires—one in the front got cut by a stick, and one wire to the battery was dislocated—were the problem. After that we got back to it and took second place.”

Wood got back to winning immediately at the CST Camp Coker Bullet, in the Sand Hills of Society Hill, South Carolina, that is a totally different experience from all of other courses north of Florida. Wood told us, “Well, we got the holeshot again, and I never looked back. The track was rough, dusty, and hot. We took a roll over on lap 3 due to trying to get around some lap riders, but nothing was damaged, so we didn’t slow down.”

Justn Wood is sponsored by KYMCO USA, CST Tires, DW Rims, Motorex, Fastt Flexx, Rox Speed FX, Golding Clutches, Fly Racing, MZM, Axis Shocks, Tireblocks, Spider Graphics, Vanilla Gorilla, McGill Mafia, GSE Performance, Kenny Vincent, The Sleep Temple, and Vigilant Vet Racing.”

The next round of the GNCC series is the Rd 6 X-Factor in Peru, Indiana, May 6-7, with the four-wheels on the 6th. Please say, “Hi,” to Wood if you go, and be prepared to marvel at what an unleashed KYMCO ATV can do.

The KYMCO brand of scooters, motorcycles, ATV’s, and side by sides, are exclusively distributed in North America by KYMCO USA. Founded in 1963, KYMCO manufactured products are today respected worldwide for their quality, value, and durability. KYMCO USA, wholly owned by Kwang Yang Motor Co.
