ELKA 2.5-INCH STAGE 5 SHOCKS

Elka’s new 2.5″ Stage 5 platform has been in development for more than 2 years and is now becoming available on the market in limited quantities.

The design of this platform is derived from our latest Stage 5 technology allowing a less restricted massive oil flow that provides arguably the smoothest feeling shock ever made for UTVs.

With this shock, the suspension feels firm and planted yet smooth enough to absorb all types of impacts using only the travel that is needed without bottoming out, no matter where the shock is in its stroke.

Built to withstand the abuse from newer long-travel vehicles, the 2.5” Stage 5 delivers the suspension performance needed for drivers who want to push their limits.

***ADJUSTMENTS***

LOW-SPEED COMPRESSION

Controls body roll when cornering, rear-end squatting under hard acceleration, front-end diving when braking, riding over whoops at moderate speed, undulations and elevation changes in the terrain

HIGH-SPEED COMPRESSION

Controls landing from big jumps, resistance to harsh or sudden square-edged impacts, riding at high-speed over whoops, vibration when riding at very high speed or when riding over choppy terrain and tire tracks

REBOUND

Controls the speed at which the shock absorbers return to their fully extended position after being compressed from an impact, keeping the wheels on the ground for maximum traction and reducing the bucking effect caused by the spring pressure pushing back after an impact

SPRING PRELOAD

Lets the driver fine-tune the initial force applied on the springs and precisely balance the weight distribution across the front and rear wheels while setting up the ride height (ground or chassis clearance) and to lower or raise the vehicle to adapt to various situations or to suit your personal preference

ADJUSTABLE CROSS-OVER RING

Provides precise adjustment of the transition from the dual-rate springs to the main spring, allowing fine tuning of the plush initial portion of the wheel travel vs. firmer spring platform deeper in the travel to resist bottoming

TECHNICAL FEATURES

– Massive 2.5” (56mm) aluminum body and reservoir, allowing huge oil displacement providing smooth, plush and precise damping
– Low-friction Teflon-coated body (PTFE)
– Sturdy, induction-hardened 3/4” (19mm) steel shaft

Team UXC Racing Back on Box at GNCC Mountaineer

After Team UXC’s Kevin Trantham would win in 4×4 Pro on his Scrambler 850, at GNCC Round 6, in Odessa, NY, teammate Michael Swift would top the box at Round 7.

Swift and teammate Kevin Trantham went fourth and fifth off the start into the woods for a two hour battle. Swift worked his way into the second place position by mid race, while Trantham encountered a radiator problem after passing through a rock section.

Starting the third lap, Swift hit a tree stump hidden in a rock section that caused him to fall back into fourth place. Just before the start of the last lap, Swift made a charge to close the gap and catch the leaders. By the three mile marker, he had done just that.

On an uphill rocky section, he was able to make a pass on the leader and take over the Pro 4×4 class lead with the Polaris Scrambler 850. Swift was able to hold the lead and put over a 20 second gap between him and second place, giving Polaris Factory Racing another Pro Class Victory.

“What a day! My Polaris Scrambler 850 worked excellent and took the punishment through the rocks and allowed me to make a comeback for another win. I am so proud of our team and thankful for all the products our sponsors build,” stated Swift.

Team UXC rider Don Higbee finished with another strong podium finish taking third in the 40+ 4×4 class on his Scrambler 850. Nic Snyckers also brought home a podium finish with a third place in the 4×4 C class.

The Single-Seat class would see seven Polaris ACEs take to the line including Jesi Stracham in her No. 820 Racer Tech/UTVScene.com ACE. This would be Stracham’s first race back after a motorcycle accident would leave her paralyzed and unable to race her ATV.

Thanks to Racer Tech, UTVScene.com and many other sponsors who made it possible to modify her ACE, Stracham would get the opportunity to return to the track and would take fifth place. Doug Fortner would take the win with Team UXC’s Marc Spataro taking second and Sam Yokley taking third.

The next GNCC race is the John Penton, in Millfield, Ohio, June 5-6, which will include ATV, UTV and Single-Seat classes.

CHANEY PILOTS MAVERICK TO MOUNTAINEER RUN VICTORY

Can-Am Maverick 1000R side-by-side vehicle racer Kyle Chaney won the XC1 Pro UTV class at the Mountaineer Run Grand National Cross Country race this past weekend in West Virginia.

Can-Am Maverick 1000R pilots swept the XC1 Pro class and also won the XC2 Pro Sport and Amateur Limited classes at the Masontown, W.Va., race. Can-Am ATV racers also earned two wins and eight podiums.

“Our GNCC Maverick racers were awesome this weekend. Maverick 1000R driver Kyle Chaney led from wire-to-wire, earning another win to regain the XC1 Pro class points lead,” said Jeff Leclerc, Racing Project Leader, Can-Am. “Our racers, with numerous wins and podiums, continue to push hard for wins. We have a bunch of dedicated ATV and side-by-side vehicle racers, all working for the same goal of putting Can-Am in the winner’s circle.”

Chaney, the defending 2014 GNCC UTV XC1 Pro class champion, has posted back-to-back victories to push his Chaney Racing / TurnKey UTV / Can-Am Maverick 1000R into the XC1 Pro class points lead. Fellow Can-Am Maverick racers and Can-Am / JB Racing / Houser Racing teammates Larry Hendershot Jr. and Tim Farr joined him on the podium. Mouse Pratt took fourth in the class to give Can-Am the top four overall finishers on the day.

“The Can-Am Maverick 1000R side-by-side worked really good. The top four XC1 Pro class finishers were Can-Am and they are just dominating the woods racing scene right now. I’ve got a pretty good points lead, so I am hoping to keep getting podiums and get a repeat championship when it’s all done,” said Chaney.

Can-Am Maverick pilots also had great success in the other GNCC UTV classes, winning the XC2 Pro Sport (Dave Plavi; Offroad Motorsports / Wicked Bilt) and the Amateur Limited (Richard Travalena, Team Travalena) classes and earning four additional podiums. Can-Am Maverick drivers now own the top four spots in the XC1 Pro GNCC class, the top two spots in the XC2 Pro Sport class and the top spot in the Amateur Limited ranks.

In 4×4 ATV action, defending 4×4 Pro class champion and Renegade racer Bryan Buckhannon notched his seventh straight podium finish, earning second, to maintain his class points lead. Rob Smith joined him on the podium in third. Can-Am racers Ben Bruce (4×4 A/B) and Matt Ewart (4×4 C) also took home wins in West Virginia.

TACTICAL TO THE MAX

You may not have known it but there’s a very healthy market for military, police and border patrol vehicles that can go places and do things some very exclusive and super-expensive armored vehicles can’t.

Mike Bennett of TerraTech Off-Road (terratechoffroad.com) a consulting firm with 20 years experience in law enforcement and vast experience in both off-road use and training has developed numerous training courses suitable for both law enforcement and the military.

Mike noted there were shortcomings with many commercially available tactical vehicles. These very costly truck-based armored units can run upwards of a hundred thousand dollars and although effective, had limitations in both inner city emergency situations as well as in rural applications. Much of the problem lies in the vehicle’s width and overall weight.

Yes, if you start with a production SxS and modify it you can build something for way less bucks and end up doing a better job!

The TerraTech built Maverick shown here is a 4-seater, dubbed Max Scorpion, equipped with a 101-hp V-twin and EPS. After that, TerraTech pretty much changed everything.

This flat-black Mav prototype is labeled “Tactical Patrol” and is designed to go places the bigger stuff can’t get into carrying four fully outfitted crew and a ton of gear.

There’s at least one other TerraTech prototype in the works painted either Desert Tan or Army green with custom add-ons and different tires. It is labeled for concealment.

Why choose a Maverick Max instead of a Commander? Mike says it has to do with power-to-weight, the high level of available technology in both the suspension and electronics and, oh yes, horsepower.

Seating space is also a huge consideration considering the crew will be decked out in full combat gear, carrying weapons and climbing in and out of the vehicle, likely while it’s moving.

Serious enough for you?

Scrambler on Top of the Podium Again

Team UXC Racing would head to Springville, Ind. for GNCC Racing’s Round 5, the Limestone 100 this past weekend and leave with two wins for the Scrambler 850.

It would be Michael Swift’s day taking the 4×4 Pro Class and morning overall on his Scrambler 850.

Off the start, Team UXC teammates Kevin Trantham and Swift quickly worked their way to the front of the class just in what was set to be a wet and slick day of racing.

Swift took the lead around the 4 mile marker on lap one with Trantham close behind. On the start of lap two, Swift managed to create a small gap between him and his class which he was able to build on each lap.

Despite the rain which made the course more difficult, Swift was able to hold his lead all the way to the checkered flag with 1 minute and 40 seconds to spare.

The win would be Swift’s first of the season and moved him into third place in the class standings for the year, with Trantham, who finished fifth, sitting in second.

Off a third place finish last race, Team UXC Racing’s 4×4 Senior Racer Don Higbee would also take the win on his Scrambler 850 for his first win of the season. Higbee sits in third for the season in the class.

The next GNCC race is the Tomahawk, in Odessa, NY, May 9-10, and the next UTV and Single Seat Race will be the Mountaineer, at Marvin’s Mountain Top, in Masontown, West Virginia, May 23-24.

ITP Racers Earn Seven Podiums at Muddy Limestone

The ITP Tires Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) racing team had an impressive weekend, tallying five wins and seven podiums, at a mud-caked Limestone 100 in Springville, Ind. Westley Wolfe put together his best race of 2015, earning a class victory and a top ATV amateur award at round five of the series in Indiana.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the amount of wins earned by our racers in such difficult conditions at the Limestone 100,” said Pat McGuire, Public Relations / Race Support. “Westley Wolfe, who has matured tremendously in just one year, put in a very impressive run in the mud, earning the Top ATV Amateur Award in the afternoon. And it was extremely nice to see Dave Simmons stretch his current winning streak to eight straight races, dating back to last year.”

Wolfe was the top finishing ITP racer in the afternoon session, finishing 12th overall among all racers, including XC1 Pro, and first in the College A (16-21) class.

Wolfe ran 6-ply ITP Holeshot GNCC tires on his Yamaha for their exceptional durability, superb traction and unbeatable ability to clean out. Wolfe has continued to make big strides in his first year in the afternoon (1p.m.) grouping, notching his second-straight victory and first top amateur award after missing the class podium at the first three rounds. He is now just five points out of the class points lead heading into the next round.

ITP racers earned two class wins in the 10 a.m. session and two other class victories in the Youth segment earlier in the day. Dave Simmons, the reigning Super Senior (45+) class champion led the way for ITP earning his fifth win of 2015 and eighth consecutive victory dating back to 2014.

He finished seventh overall in the muddy morning session, behind six 4×4 Pro class ATVs. Kenny Rich Sr. finished just one spot behind Simmons in the overall standings and notched his second straight Masters (50+) class win. The defending class champion now has three podium finishes in a row after a slow start to the season.

Youth division racers Jordan Digby and Keaton Henderson, each put their ATVs outfitted with ITP tires on top of their class podiums at round five. Digby won the 125 Sr. (12-15), while Henderson, won the 125 Jr. (8-11) class. Digby now has two wins on the year.

Two other ITP racers earned podiums in Indiana. Reigning WXC champion Angel Knox tallied her third podium of 2015, taking second and 10th overall for the morning session. The second-place finish was huge after her previous two rounds resulted in a Did Not Race and 10th. Youth racer Parker Henderson, who was third in the 90 (8-12) division, also got his third podium finish of the season in Indiana.

The fourth running of the Limestone 100 GNCC was held on the Lawrence County Recreational Facility property outside of Springville, which is less than 2 hours southwest of Indianapolis, the state capital. Almost 460 ATV racers, which included ATV Micro classes, entered the race. Round six of the AMSOIL GNCC series is slated for the weekend of May 9-10, with the Dunlop Tomahawk in Odessa, N.Y.

In business for more than 30 years, ITP has become the world’s #1 ATV/UTV aftermarket tire and wheel source. ITP utilizes its experienced staff of engineers, designers and technicians at its two American tire facilities in Clinton, Tenn., and Jackson, Tenn., to develop award-winning tire-and-wheel designs for virtually all ATVs and side-by-side vehicles. Numerous outlets distribute ITP tires across the United States and in more than 25 countries worldwide.

STI Roctane XS Tire

STI Tire & Wheel introduces a new and improved Roctane XS tire that features a lighter carcass and a rounded contour that greatly enhances high-speed handling.

Two new 14-inch sizes, 28/10R-14 (MSRP: $179.25) and 30/10R-14 ($202.55), are DOT approved for use on paved roads (where legal).

The Roctane XS was designed to be a lighter version of the heavy-duty Roctane XD, a favorite of off-roaders exploring rugged canyons and extreme trails. With these fresh updates, the Roctane XS delivers an improved level of performance and maintains its durable heritage.

The new XS tires use 8-ply rated construction, and have been tested in racing conditions nationwide. The tires’ symmetrical center tread pattern has been revised slightly for improved performance on hardpack surfaces.

This change helps improve cornering traction while keeping the tire’s smooth-riding character.

Roctane XS tires feature RocWall sidewalls and super-deep rim guards for wheel protection.

The XS tires are also available in 30/10R-15 and 31/10R-17 sizes (not DOT approved).
