GBC $15,000 Purse for Heartland Challenge

Press Release –

GBC Motorsports has been announced as the title sponsor of the first-ever Heartland Challenge Endurance Race, scheduled for November 7-8, 2008, at Fun Valley in Montezuma, IA.

GBC has pledged to pay out a 1st place prize of $7500.00 in the Pro Utility ATV class, which is the highest amount ever paid for a Pro Utility class win, and $7500.00 for the winner of the Pro Sport ATV class as well.

In addition to the enormous Pro payouts, GBC Motorsports is also heading up a contingency program for the event.

In order to be eligible for the GBC contingency program, every machine used on the team must have on GBC Motorsports for the entire duration of the race.

The Pro Sport ATV and Pro Utility ATV class contingency payout is $500.00 each class for 1st place. The ATV Sport and ATV Utility Ironman classes will have a $250.00 payout for 1st place, while all other classes will pay out $100.00 for a 1st place finish.

The Heartland Challenge is a true ATV endurance race that is designed for the Pro’s, to the amateurs, to UTV classes, and features the toughest class
of all, the Ironman class. The two-day event offers plenty of fun and excitement for everyone. There will be 13 classes racing all at the same time, with NO breaks.

Each team will be allowed up to 3 riders per team with as many quads. All teams will be allowed to use only one quad at a time, while all other quads will be held in a secured location.

Each team will be allowed to switch out quads through out the 10-hour event, but no repairs or inspections will be allowed on the ATVs while in impound. There will be no breaks or time-outs during the race, which means you will not lose the lead you have on the other teams.

The Heartland Challenge also will be offering the very first 3-Hour Challenge for youth ATV riders with 5 different classes for ages ranging from 4 to 15 years old. The 3-Hour Challenge teams will be just like the big boys with up to 3 riders with as many quads without any breaks.

Side-by-Side racing has also been included by popular demand to compete in their own 3 hour challenge on Friday evening. We will be offering 4 classes and the racing will wrap-up after sunset, so lights will be required.

A full schedule of events and classes, along with pre-registration information, can be found on the Heartland Challenge’s website at heartlandchallenge.com.

Natalie Clocks Fastest Lap at Pleasure Valley

Press Release –

As the end of the 2008 season draws near, Warnert Racing’s John Natalie once again has proved why he is the “Ironman”.

Even after flipping his quad in moto number two of round nine of the AMA ATV Motocross Nationals, the #13 Can-Am laid down the fastest lap time of the weekend with a blistering 01:45.496 lap at Pleasure Valley Raceway.

In moto number one, John came off the line in 4th place and was applying pressure to take over 3rd, but a flat tire caused by a rock forced Natalie to slow his charge.

Despite his tire difficulties, John was holding fast to 4th place, but in lap eleven John encountered a mechanical issue that ended things a little early for him.

In the second moto, John came off the line looking strong, but soon ran into problems. “I hit a rut and flipped my bike. That put me back to last place, but I made up for it.

I got the fastest lap time of the race in the next lap and moved all the way up to 10th,” John stated.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature decided that she was going to rain on everyone’s parade and let loose with a torrential downpour that caused many racers, including Natalie, to toss their goggles aside when visibility became too poor.

“I couldn’t see anything because off all the mud, so I took off my goggles,” said Natalie, who dropped back to 12th due to the deteriorating conditions. John ended his day in 14th place overall but remains optimistic that things will be different at the next round at Red Bud. “We’ve been doing a lot of work to the bike and it is running great. We’re really getting things dialed in and I’m looking forward to Red Bud. I think we have a good shot at a 1-1 finish,” he concluded confidently.

Warnert teammate Cody Miller is currently tied for 11th place in the points race after round nine, which is quite an accomplishment after not being able to compete in the season opener.

Miller was at the back of the pack off the gate in moto one, but Miller’s determination allowed him to soon make quick work of Cale Downen and Sage Baker and work his way into the tenth spot, where he would finish in the first moto. “The bike ran great and the power was right there. I didn’t have any problems,” said Cody.

In moto number two, Miller came off the line in 14th place and was doing well until lap six. Miller lost traction in a turn and spun out, which sent him to the back of the pack. Cody didn’t let his mishap get the best of him as kept focused and began to move back up through traffic until the rain began to fall.

The intensity of the sudden downpour caught many racers by surprise, including Miller. “It was raining so hard and it got really muddy. I couldn’t see anything so I threw my goggles,” he said.

Despite the rain and mud, Cody still managed to overtake Yamaha’s Pat Brown before the finish line, which landed him in 17th and gave him a 13th place finish overall.

The Warnert team will be heading to Red Bud in Buchanan, MI for round ten on July 26th-27th, where John Natalie could possibly break into the top five in the points race if his prediction of a 1-1 finish comes to pass.

Wimmer Thrills in Pennsylvania

Press Release –

Sets Quick Time in Inaugural Johnstown Pro ATV Race

Dustin Wimmer once again took the top spot in qualifying Saturday for tomorrow’s American Suzuki Summer National Southern at Pleasure Valley Raceway.

The event is Round 9 of the ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA National Motocross Championship.

Wimmer (No. 191 Team MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper Suzuki) turned in the top time of one minute, 44.590 seconds during the final session to beat out Pat Brown (No. 199 Team Yamaha) and Josh Upperman (No. 20 American Honda/Baldwin Motorsports).

“The track is pretty fun and I found some lines I can use to pass tomorrow,” said Wimmer. “It’s going to take a good start as always, but my Suzuki is running better than ever and I’m ready for the race.”

Upperman’s third-place run created a lot of talk in the pits. The Ohio Factory Honda rider has been riding well for the past several rounds and could be a dark horse contender for the win if he starts well tomorrow.

“I felt really good today,” said Upperman. “My practice track is exactly like this place, so I felt comfortable as soon as I hit the dirt.

Cale Downen (No. 727 K&K ATV), Harold Goodman (No. 708 Honda), Russell Shumaker (No. 68 Monster Energy Kawasaki) and Hunter Miller (No. 90 Golden West Cycles Honda) qualified for tomorrow’s finals through the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ).

Trent Kandel, Brandon Smith, Michael Brown, Brock Lyons, and Brian Ace didn’t qualifying for the 20-quad field.

The American Suzuki Summer National continues tomorrow with Pro finals scheduled at noon and at 3 p.m., as well as a full program of Pro-Am, Amateur, Youth, and Women’s racing.

Gust Comes away Clean in Johnstown

Press Release –

Rain helps veteran earn second win of the 2008 season

Doug Gust raced fast and consistent to earn the overall Pro ATV victory Sunday at Pleasure Valley Raceway.

The event, the American Suzuki Summer National, was Round 9 of the ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA ATVA Pro Motocross Championship.

Gust (No. 55 Team MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper Suzuki) took the victory, his second this season, ahead of Josh Creamer (No. 9 Monster Energy Kawasaki).

Series points leader Dustin Wimmer (No. Team MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper) finished third, maintaining his healthy points advantage.

“When it started raining, I started smiling,” said the affable Gust. “Dustin was riding really well and when he got around me I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to get him back. But, when it started raining, that changed!

“These wins feel better than any I’ve had in my career because of how tight the competition is,” added Gust. “Look at the lap sheets. We are all within a second or so of each other, so to be able to win against a field like we have feels incredible.”

While Suzuki riders won the event, it was a great day for factory Kawasaki. Josh Creamer took the holeshot and the win in the first moto, while his teammate Keith Little (No. 12 Monster Energy Kawasaki) rode well all day to finish fifth overall.

“I wanted the win today very badly,” said Creamer. “I didn’t get a very good holeshot in the second moto, but I charged as hard as I could to get to the front pack. Right when I reached fourth, it started raining and I had to take off my goggles. It was a good day though, and we’ll win soon.”

Creamer grabbed the Suspension Systems Holeshot Award in the first moto and led the pack to the green flag. Also gating well were Gust and Wimmer, with John Natalie Jr. (No. 13 Cam-Am) and Greg Gee (No. 10 Team Epic Racing/Can-Am) rounding out the top five at the conclusion of the first lap. Creamer set a lightning quick pace and pulled out to a two-second lead by the halfway point.

Meanwhile, Gust pulled clear of Wimmer, who appeared to be riding cautiously in the slick conditions. Natalie could smell blood and laid down a couple of the fastest laps of the moto to draw close to Wimmer’s rear wheels.

From there, things went downhill for the hometown hero, as Natalie suffered a flat tire, and, later, engine problems. Up front, Gust mounted a charge but Creamer held on for the opening moto victory. Wimmer rode home third with Little and Gee rounding out the top five.

The moto was a big heartbreak for Chad Wienen (No. 44 Rockstar/MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper Suzuki) who had qualified a close second.

Wienen’s Suzuki suffered an electrical problem on the starting line and was unable to start the race.

Gust earned the ATVRiders.com Holeshot Award in the second moto. Hot on his heels was teammate Wimmer, who dogged the veteran relentlessly.

Creamer had a poor start but was charging through the pack quickly. Business picked up around the halfway point of the moto as Wimmer made his move on Gust and took over the lead.

Almost simultaneously, the heavens opened and heavy rain began to pound the track.

Wimmer would only lead one lap before sliding out on a tricky jump. Once in the lead, Gust never faltered, taking the checkered flag about five seconds ahead of Jeremy Lawson (No. 16 Team Epic Can-Am) and earned the overall victory. Creamer finished the moto third, which was good enough for second overall.

Team Suzuki continues to hold the lead in the Manufacturers’ Cup standings.

Special award winners were:

Ti Lube Fast Qualifier Award: Dustin Wimmer
Suspension Systems Holeshot Award–Moto 1: Josh Creamer
ATVRiders.com Holeshot Award–Moto 2: Doug Gust
DASA Mechanic of the Race: Brandon Lamey

The next race for the ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA National Motocross Championship is scheduled for July 26-27 at Redbud Raceway in Buchanan, Mich.
