Wienen and Borich Sweep up at Daniel Boone

Press Release –

Chad Wienen out-muscled the SuperQuad Pro 450 competition and Chris Borich survived a wild QuadTerrain contest during the second round of Pro WPSA PowerSports ATV Tour competition Sunday.

The event, the Blue Ridge Open Championship, was held at Daniel Boone Motocross Park. The race will be telecast on ESPN2 on Saturday, July 21 at noon EDT.

Wienen (No. 44 Team Rockstar, MSR, Pro Taper, Yoshimura/Suzuki) showed his conditioning over the several weeks worked, as he followed John Natalie, Jr. (No. 13 Maxxis, Elka/Honda) for much of the race before pouncing, taking the lead late and winning his second race of the weekend.

Following Wienen past Natalie were his teammates Dustin Wimmer (No. 191 MSR, Pro Taper, Yoshimura/Suzuki) and Doug Gust (No. 55 Team Rockstar, MSR, Pro Taper, Yoshimura/Suzuki), making for a podium sweep by Suzuki.

“We spent the last few weeks at (Race Team Coordinator) Jeremiah Jones’ place training for this event,” explained Wienen. “I learned a lot from the track, and it also helped me with my conditioning.

“I really think it came down to conditioning today,” added Wienen. “The heat made it very difficult.”

Borich (No. 2 Warnert Racing/Can-Am) took the holeshot at the beginning of the QuadTerrain Pro Stock final, and wasn’t headed. He led a Can-Am sweep of the podium, ahead of Chris Bithell (No. 6 Warnert Racing/Can-Am) and Scott Kilby (No. 207 Warnert Racing/Can-Am).

“It’s great to lead the sweep for Can-Am,” said Borich of his second WPSA victory of the season. “Warnert Racing, Can-Am, and my entire crew have just done a fabulous job getting my bike ready. It was perfect right out of the gate.”

Borich also won the Holeshot Technologies Rock’n’Roll Award, worth $1,000, for exiting the QuadTerrain course’s rock section first.

The winners of the $500 ATVSource.com Fastest Mover Awards, given in both Pro classes to the riders who move up the most positions from qualifying, went to Adam Vaughn (No. 83 Warnert Racing/Can-Am) and Richard Pelchat (No. 46 Yamaha Motor Canada/Yamaha).

Polaris TRAILS Program Tops $500,000 in Grants

Press Release –

National, State and Local ATV Clubs & Organizations Benefit

Polaris Industries is proud to announce the third round of ‘T.R.A.I.L.S.’ grant recipients, with grants totaling $105,320 for a grand total of $500,458 granted to national, state and local ATV clubs since the program was launched in 2006.

In this round, Polaris issued grants to 12 organizations in 12 states. To date, Polaris has assisted 59 ATV organizations in 35 states across the U.S.

The first of its kind in the ATV industry, the ‘T.R.A.I.L.S.’ grant program was launched in January 2006 for ATV clubs, associations and grassroots groups.

ATV riders and the trails they use are the lifeblood of the sport and Polaris aimed to create a program to help.

The T.R.A.I.L.S. program makes funds available to not-for-profit national, state and local organizations in the United States to ensure the future of ATV riding.

T.R.A.I.L.S. stands for:

T = Trail Development
R = Responsible Riding
A = Access
I = Initiatives
L = Lobbying
S = Safety

The grant program encompasses two main objectives – promoting safe and responsible riding, and preserving access.

Funds can be used by organizations for trail development and maintenance projects, safety and education initiatives, lobbying and other projects to increase and maintain land access.

“Trail access is undoubtedly our number one challenge in the industry,” said Mike Dougherty, general manager of the ATV division at Polaris. “Our continuing dedication to this program sets Polaris apart in the industry showcasing our commitment to living the ride experience and working tirelessly to make it better.”

The grants ranged from $3,000 to the maximum $10,000 and will be applied toward: land acquisition, trail mapping, marking and maintenance; trail development, stabilization and reforestation; bridge building; Bureau of Land Management (BLM), National Forest Service and State Forest ride area enhancements and trail mapping projects.

The third round of T.R.A.I.L.S. grant recipients are:

* Local Organizations
* Island Trails Network (Alaska)
* Little Sioux Explorers OHV Club (Iowa)
* North Idaho ATV Association (Idaho)
* Border Riders Sportsman Club (Maine)
* Fourtown-Grygla Sportsmans Club (Minnesota)
* Washington County Board of Supervisors (Mississippi)
* Down East River Club (North Carolina)
* Lewis County Trails Department (New York)
* Motorcycle Riders Association (Oregon)
* Arapeen Trail Council / Castle Country OHV (Utah)
* State Organizations
* Missouri Dirt Riders
* Motorized Recreation Council of Wyoming

“We continue to be overwhelmed with the response we’ve had from ATV clubs and organizations,” said Dougherty. “We had twice as many applications as we did in July which confirms the enormous need for funding support to keep this sport alive and thriving. We are thrilled to be able to continue this program in to 2007 and have every intention to keep it going for years to come to ensure ample and pristine riding areas for ATV enthusiasts.”

Chris Borich Wins At his BRP Debut

Can-Am Racer Takes WPSA QuadTerrain Challenge Pro Stock Final

Press Release –

Chris Borich took the holeshot and the win in the QuadTerrain Challenge Pro Stock final at the Southwestern National.

After surrendering the lead momentarily on the first lap, the Warnert Racing/Can-Am team member gained it back and never saw another challenge to his position out front.

He worked his Can-AmTM OutlanderTM 650 H.O. EFI around the hilly and demanding course masterfully even though it was his first time competing in the event this season.

“When we signed Chris Borich we were well familiar with his talent on a sport ATV,” said Bernard Guy, ATV marketing director at BRP. “But now he definitely showed how versatile he is by winning this race on an Outlander 650 ATV; we are excited to see Borich at future rounds as a member of Warnert Racing/Can-Am team.”

Borich joined Scott Kilby, Chris Bithell, Brady Foster and Adam Vaughn out of the Warnert Racing/Can-Am semi at the third round of the WPSA ATV Tour held at Cooperland Raceway near Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Bithell, who was racing the QuadTerrain Challenge for the first time, worked his way up to second before getting tangled in the boulder section of the course.

After remounting his Outlander ATV, he worked his way from last to tenth. For his part, Kilby was leading the points championship when going into the round. In the final, he finished seventh aboard his Outlander 650 ATV after a strong run.

The next round of the WPSA ATV Tour heads to London, Ky., for the Blue Ridge Open Championship June 16 and 17.

Clutch Assembly Needed For Youth ATV

Question:

I Have a Komodo 150cc ATV that is my son’s, and I need a number or website for engine parts. I need a clutch assembly, but there’s no contact on the owners manual.

Steve Daddio

Response:

Thanks for your email!

Unfortunately, I have not heard of your brand of ATV. However, it is likely a re-badged version of a more widely known brand from the Pacific rim.

Do some more research (check the frame badges and engine labels for another brand name) and maybe you’ll be able to source parts.

Good Luck!
