FIRST LOOK: 2011 ARCTIC CAT 425

If power equals fun in your evaluation of an ATV, the new Arctic Cat 425 delivers loads of power and torque from a 433cc EFI single dropped into a lightweight chassis.

Power is delivered to the ground via a rock solid Duramatic CVT with electric selectable 4×4. Yes, engine braking is included and this crisp power package showed us how strong it is when we recently test rode it in Texas.

The ATV can climb hills and slog through muck like few others. The secret is a combo of low weight and ominous torque.

The throttle tip-in with the EFI single is amazing for a quad in this class and its slightly smaller dimensions are a plus not a negative – especially when you’re weaving tight trails.

Suspension is provided by double A-arms front and rear equipped with preload adjustable hydraulic shocks.

The ride is very good and the 425’s handling is even better. We love the dimensions and the nimble feedback the rider gets on this ATV, all without sacrificing the ground clearance necessary to get over obstacles or splash through deep mud holes.

Hey, this ATV even has a set of back-up lights on it so you can see what youÂ’re backing into when plowing snow.

This is a fully equipped winner for Cat and one that delivers a wallop for the price.
