Can-Am Announces Long Term Sponsorship

Press Release –

Racer Productions and BRP are excited to announce the return of Can-Am as title sponsor of the 13-stop Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series (GNCC) series for another three years.

“Our relationship with GNCC racing is quite important for BRP,” commented Yves Leduc, vice president and general manager, North American division for BRP. “BRP’s Can-Am ATV brand conveys a strong performance and passion message in the off-road world and we see both those attributes out on the race course at each Grand National Cross Country Series event. We are excited to continue to be a part of the GNCC racer community.”

GNCC racing has seen exceptional growth in both the number of racer entries and fan base during the past three years with the Can-Am title sponsorship. From the opening round in Florida to the concluding race in Indiana, race fans and racers actively support the series.

“The past three years have seen unprecedented growth in our sport due in large part to our relationship with BRP and the Can-Am team,” said Jeff Russell, GNCC Trail Boss. “Can-Am sponsorship enables us to continue to invest in our series. Our team has come to depend on BRP’s Can-Am ATVs to build and navigate the course; they are GNCC tested for sure.”

Along with the renewal of BRP’s sponsorship through its Can-Am brand, several new and exciting additions will be made to the GNCC Sponsor Village as part of this new agreement. A Can-Am Zone – where fans and racers can get information and an up-close view of several Can-Am products – will be available at each of the 13 rounds. Can-Am also becomes the feature sponsor of GNCC Live Timing and Scoring over the Internet. Finally, Can-Am remains the title sponsor of the Can-Am Unadilla GNCC event held in New Berlin, N.Y. and will continue to support RacerTV.

“We are so fortunate to have a title sponsor that understands the value of having a solid television broadcast schedule like Can-Am,” said Jason Hooper, Producer of RacerTV. “Without Can-Am, it would be nearly impossible to get the series on a network of caliber like VERSUS and into over 50 million homes across the U.S.”

In the GNCC Can-Am Zone and a few other select events this year, fans will get an unprecedented opportunity to win a 2010 Can-Am Outlander 800R EFI XT ATV given away by Racer Productions. Fans will soon be able to register online as well, by participating in a GNCC survey.

The lucky winner will be announced on October 24 during the victory ceremony at the Amsoil Ironman GNCC, the final round of the 2010 Can-Am GNCC Racing Series.

The 2010 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series kicks off this weekend as part of Daytona Bike Week at the Westgate River Ranch Resort in River Ranch, Florida, with the Parts Unlimited River Ranch GNCC. ATVs race on Sunday, February 28, and dirt bikes race on Tuesday, March 2.

ANOTHER BIG WIN FOR ITP’S NEW QUADCROSS XC

Press Release –

Justin Noss gave ITP’s new QuadCross XC tires another important victory by capturing the 2010 Adelanto Grand Prix, an hour-long, rough, demanding test of endurance.

Noss put his Golden West Cycles-backed Yamaha YFZ450R into the lead of the Pro Quad class shortly after the dead-engine start and led for the entire four laps on a cool, windy mid-February day in the high desert northeast of Los Angeles.

This was the 30th anniversary for the event, drawing over 1,800 entries. Unfortunately, the promoting club Desert Vipers have said that 2010 will be the final year for the legendary race.

Noss was impressed by his first experience on the QuadCross XC, stating, “I felt these tires worked great for the high-speed, choppy track. I’m pleased to say everything worked perfect.”

The QuadCross XC incorporates a tough 6-ply carcass for higher puncture resistance and exceptional overall durability. This advanced carcass design has been proven to stiffen the sidewall during side loads without compromising ride quality.

Along with reducing the bounce that’s common on most cross country knobbies, this design benefits acceleration, braking, cornering and overall balance as well, significantly reducing fatigue and lap times.

An aggressive, dimpled tread pattern using a high-tech, long-wearing tread compound further enhances traction, feel and trail handling characteristics. Sizing is 20×11-9 for the rear (P/N 560547) and 22×7-10 in front (P/N 560546).

Since 1982, ITP has grown into the world’s #1 ATV/UTV aftermarket tire and wheel source, and continues to provide a complete line of innovative tires and wheels for virtually all ATVs and UTVs. Beautiful Trails In Lanaudiere

0

Auberge du Lac Tureau in Lanaudiere, Quebec is a sprawling 5-star resort set on the beautiful Tureau Lake complete with endless sandy beaches, every amenity imaginable and serenity comparable to an artist’s backdrop for a painting of heaven.

It was easy to see why the Auberge du Lac Tureau is Lanaudiere region’s best resort and they love ATVers to boot!

After a satisfying American Style buffet breakfast in the sun-drenched dining area, we saddled up our rentals – available onsite – for a fun filled tour around beautiful Lac Tureau.

As we headed out we were immediately impressed by the riding conditions. Stretching for miles and miles, the trails were smooth and spacious; wide enough to accommodate two-way traffic easily.

The scenery on the ride was like candy for the eyes as we crossed bridged waterways and rode under tree-covered pathways. Winding tree-covered trails opened up to sunny mountainous terrain offering a clear view of Lac Tureau and the entire surrounding area.

The tour racked up a whopping 100 miles on the odometer and provided roughly 4 hours of ATV riding pleasure. We covered some of the smoothest trails during our travels and this was by far one of the most scenic tours I’d been on that year.

Best of all, the trail led us right back to the resort for a less than grueling afternoon of sunshine on the sand covered beaches surrounding Auberge du Lac Tureau.

Do Bigger Tires Equal Clutch Upgrade?

Question:

Dear Motorhead,

I have a stock 2009 Yamaha grizzly 700 Ducks Unlimited and have the opportunity to buy Maxxis Bighorn 6 Ply Radials, on Vision Bruiser rims.

Can I run this on my Grizzly WITHOUT changing the clutch or the weights in the clutch? I just want to know if I can bolt on and go. Also will lose or gain anything?

Thanks for your help,

Fan

Thanks for your email!

Here’s the deal. When you increase the diameter of your tires you change the complete function of the CVT.

Most people do not change their clutching with the addition of larger tires however, they actually loose performance when they do this.

Sure, traction increases in mud but everything else suffers – in proportion to the increase in diameter of the new tires and wheels.

So, the best thing you can do is contact Team Industries or Dalton Pro and find out about the availability of a clutch kit – which will likely include both primary and secondary pulley tuning components.

At the very least you need to increase your engagement RPM to ensure belt life is not hindered or in the case of the Grizzly the sprag clutch used for engagement is not stressed and overheated when running slow for long periods.

Hope this helps,

Motorhead Mark

Yamaha Announces 2011 Rhino 700 FI

0

Press Release –

Rhino Remains Most Off-Road Capable Side-by-Side Vehicle

Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., announces its 2011 Rhino 700 FI Side-by-Side (SxS) vehicles, including a new Sport Edition, will begin arriving at dealers this summer.

Yamaha’s leading Rhino continues to hold the top spot as the toughest, most off-road capable and versatile, as well as the all-time best selling, SxS vehicle.

Yamaha ignited unprecedented interest in SxS vehicles when it launched the first Rhino in 2003, and the Rhino line continues to be a category leader today.

Combining Yamaha quality and durability, the Rhino has received nearly every best-in-class award from the ATV and SxS world as well as hunting and farming communities because of its ability to tackle off-road terrain while also serving many utility functions.

For the 2011 model, Yamaha has given the Rhino a new steering wheel and adjustable seat belt providing more rider comfort in off-road conditions.

New to the Rhino line is a White Armor Sport Edition that features fully adjustable piggyback shocks, one-piece cast aluminum wheels, injection-molded sun top, over fenders, Baja-inspired front carry bar, and a special graphics treatment. The Sport model also comes with dealer-installed LED tail lights, custom shift knob and black bed rails.

The 700-class powerplant is optimized for the Rhino with a liquid-cooled, four-valve SOHC engine providing plenty of torque to tackle rough terrain. Helping manage that power is the Yamaha Fuel Injection system with unmatched performance and dependability at high elevation and in cooler conditions.

Additionally, the Rhino engine features a forged piston that adds durability and an aluminum cylinder body with ceramic composite coating for decreased weight, increased cooling ability and additional wear resistance.

The roller rocker arms lessen friction in the valve train reducing wear and increasing durability while providing improved throttle response and better overall off-road performance.

Yamaha’s reliable Ultramatic automatic transmission system features an exclusive centrifugal clutch that allows the drive belt to remain under constant tension providing another key point of durability. Also exclusive to Yamaha’s Ultramatic system is the one way sprag clutch that provides four wheel engine braking for maximum traction and confidence.

Adding to the Rhino’s terrainability is the On-Command 2WD/4WD system with differential lock that gives the driver options with the push of a button.

The Rhino 700 FI has 12.1 inches of ground clearance, and its fully adjustable and fully independent front and rear dual A-arm suspension offers more than 7.3 inches of travel.

The Rhino also features large axles and CV joints to best accommodate its engine power. Front and rear A-arm guards prevent sticks and debris from getting to the boots, but should something find a way past the guards, the CV boot material is tough and resistant to most impacts.

When it comes to braking, the automotive-style pedal controls the four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes with dual piston calipers, which provide unmatched stopping power and feel. The parking brake lever is located on the center console and engages a separate disc brake located on the axle.

The Rhino 700 FI comes with a number of standard extras and creature comforts, and Yamaha offers more than 100 official and accessories for the Rhino line. As with all previous models, the 2011 Rhino features a U.S. OSHA and ISO 3471 compliant roll over protection structure (ROPS).

Its 12-volt accessory outlet easily receives a GPS device, spotlight or even a cell phone charger. The Rhino has padded bucket seats with headrests for both driver and passenger and a digital meter is standard on the Rhino 700 FI providing self diagnostic capabilities for easy troubleshooting, a voltage meter for monitoring battery condition, and an hour meter function that operates only while the engine is running for more accurate servicing.

The digital LCD multi-function display meter also features a speedometer, odometer, dual trip meter, clock, fuel gauge and gear position display. The 7.9 gallon fuel tank holds enough gas for hours of riding.

The Rhino 700 FI also comes standard with passenger grab handles and cup holders, as well as tough, rotomolded doors to keep mud, water and trail debris out of the cab. Helping keep passengers clean and keeping cabin noise to a minimum is the noise and dust shield located behind the seats. The under-hood, tools-free air filter is another added convenience. It is a snap to service in its location and an optimized filter size helps the filter stay clean longer.

The Rhino features a standard two-inch receiver and is capable of towing up to 1,212 pounds while the cargo bed is capable of carrying 400 pounds. The cargo bed features an assisted dump function with tilt levers on both sides of the bed.

The 2011 Yamaha Rhino will be available in Hunter Green, Red and the Sport Edition White Armor in the summer of 2010.

Press Release –

In 2010, BRP’s Can-Am ATV racers will be out in force competing on race tracks across North America.

In all, more than 30 racers will have some level of factory backing as they compete in all the major national and regional ATV-racing series in North America.

With multiple riders receiving support from BRP once again this season, we are confident to bring home more championships than ever before.”

In 2010, Bithell signs on with the Warnert team and will return to the class hungry to earn a championship.

Team Motoworks / Can-Am

The Motoworks team’s main focus in 2010 will be to bring home championships in both the World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) out west and AMA/ATVA Motocross National series in the eastern United States. Henry will also receive support from Motoworks in the WORCS racing series this season. Joining him in the motocross championship series will be Cameron Reimers (#21), who will race a DS 450 in the Pro-Am Production and Pro-Am Unlimited classes.

Yamaha Transferring Worldwide ATV Production to United States by 2013

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (YMC) today announced plans to transfer its all-terrain vehicle (ATV) production currently in Japan to the United States.

With this transfer, the production capacity of YMC’s Japanese subsidiary – Yamaha Motor Powered Products Co., Ltd. (YMPC) – will be integrated into YMC’s U.S. subsidiary based in Newnan, Georgia – Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corporation of America (YMMC).

The move, currently in the planning stages, is scheduled to begin in early 2011 and is intended to optimize manufacturing capacity and improve productivity.
