WARN Industries Celebrates 60 Years of Excellence

0

By: Matt Lester

WARN Industries is celebrating 60 years of business this year.

WARN winches are one of the most widely distributed ATV and UTV accessories in the powersports market today are, by far, the most trusted name in winching.

THe All-Terrain Vehicle Staff recently had the opportunity to celebrate with the WARN team and tour Warn’s Clackamas, Oregon headquarters.

Warn started out as a small, family operated business and has developed into a multi-million dollar corporation with multiple factories, world-wide sales and one of the most recognizable brands in the powersports and automotive aftermarket.

WARN Industries began in Seattle when Arthur Warn developed a revolutionary locking hub system allowing surplus World War II Jeeps to operate in 2-wheel drive for civilian use.

This invention shaped the hub industry, not only making vehicles more drivable but also improving fuel economy.

WARN powertrain products are used by some of the world’s best-known automobile manufacturers today, including Ford and Chrysler.

In 1959, WARN developed its first off-road electric winch. Since then WARN has become best known for its winches.

The company now makes applications for trucks and SUVs, powersports vehicles, industrial applications and utility purposes.

WARN also makes a wide variety of other products such as skid plates, bumpers, fender flares, lights, ATV/UTV plows, power tools and more. Most recently WARN introduced its Air-Power™ line of 12-volt air compressors, the WARN Works PullzAll™ electric pulling and lifting tool and the WARN PowerPlant™ vehicle-mounted multi-tool.

Warn Winch Rebate Program

Press Release –

Warn Industries, the leading manufacturer of truck and powersports vehicle accessories, realizes that money is tight for many consumers.

In an effort to help stimulate accessory purchases for their truck, SUV, ATV, or Side X Side, the company is offering rebates on select winches purchased during the month of May, 2009.

Customers who purchase either a WARN® Ultimate Performance truck/SUV winch or a WARN Powersports ATV/UTV winch from May 1–31 will be eligible for a cash-back rebate.

The rebate amounts will range from $50–$100, depending on the winch.

The program is simple: After purchasing one of the eligible winches, buyers can visit www.warn.com/rescue_package.shtm to download a rebate certificate that can be filled out and sent to Warn Industries.

When WARN has received and processed the certificate, a check will be sent directly to the customer.

Buyers with questions can visit www.Warn.com or call WARN Customer Service at (800) 543-9276.

Holz Racing RZR Wins Terrible Town 250 UTV Class

Press Release –

Mark Holz and Matt Parks Pilot Holz Racing RZR to Victory in Nevada

Holz Racing topped the field in the grueling Best in the Desert Series during the Terrible Town 250 in Primm, Nevada, April 18, 2009, adding cross-country durability to the already long list of Holz Racing Products attributes.

To date the 2009 Holz Racing Polaris RZR had already proven itself on the short track World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) races, winning two of three events. But with 73 miles of untamed desert looming on the horizon, owner Mark Holz teamed up with Matt Parks and stretched the legs of the Kroyer Racing Engine powered RZR in the Best of the Desert UTV class.

Fourteen competitors comprised the UTV class at the start of the Terrible Town race with only 11 cars making it to the checkered. Faced with uncharted desert, dry creek beds and rock-strewn climbs, the Maxxis tires outfitted Holz RZR averaged just over 39 miles-per-hour, finishing the race in just over 1 hour, 52 minutes.

“The race was a good change of pace for us,” said Mark Holz. “A longer race is great for more extensive durability testing of our performance parts and to evaluate different calibration ideas we have in mind for our Fox shock package.”

The Best in the Desert Series plays host to world-class off-road racing events throughout the southwestern United States. Last year, more than 4,000 racers competed in various Best in the Desert race events, conquering some of the most unpredictable and challenging desert terrain in North America.

The next race for Holz racing is the May 1-3 World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) in Milford, California.

BRP ATV RACERS PREPPING DURING OFF WEEKEND

Press Release –

Can-Am Finishes Strong At Last Weekend’s AMA and GNCC ATV Races

Riders on Can-Am™ ATVs had much success last weekend in both the GNCC race series and at the AMA ATV Motocross race.

With an off weekend coming up, they look to build on that success for the next rounds of ATV racing.

At the Loretta Lynn GNCC near Hurricane Mills, TN, Team Warnert Racing / Can-Am rider Bryan Buckhannon dominated the 4×4 Open class on his Can-Am Outlander™ 800R EFI ATV finishing six minutes ahead of second place.

His teammate Michael Swift, also aboard an Outlander 800R, took first place in the 4×4 Limited class.

That weekend also saw BRP riders place three DS 450™ EFI ATVs in the top ten of the Pro class at the AMA ATV Motocross National near Danville, VA.

Team Warnert Racing / Can-Am racers John Natalie and Cody Miller took fourth and fifth respectively, while Team Motoworks / Can-Am racer Jeremy Lawson took eighth overall.

In the amateur classes, Cole Henry took the Four-Stroke A class win on his DS 450, while Angela Adkins took first place in the Women’s class. Adkins was also riding a DS 450.

“Our racers continue to be extremely successful on Can-Am ATVs and are getting a lot of seat time this weekend to prep for upcoming races,” says Delton Bohlman, Racing Manager for Can-Am ATVs at BRP.

“We look forward to seeing amateur racers like Cole Henry and Angela Adkins continue to have more success on the DS 450 like they did in Virginia; it really shows our Amateur racing support program is working excellent.”

Other racing highlights from the Loretta Lynn GNCC included Warnert / Can-Am racer Cliff Beasley easily winning the 4×4 Lites class on his Outlander 500 EFI ATV. In the 4×4 Limited class, Outlander ATVs swept the top three spots, and comprised seven of the 11 ATVs entered in the class.

The next GNCC race will be Titan GNCC near Lafayette, TN on May 2. The next AMA ATV Motocross is near Walnut, IL on May 2-3.

Wimmer On Top at Birch Creek

Press Release –

The fourth round of the AMA Pro ATV MX Championship at Danville, Virginia’s Birch Creek Motorsports facility found Dustin Wimmer at the front of the pack yet again.

The 2008 Champion reminded his competitors why he has the big Number One on the front of his Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki QuadRacer R450.

This event marked Wimmer’s 3rd overall win of the young season and, in addition, further stretched out his points lead.

The first moto started with Wimmer in third position, but by the 6th lap he was on leader Chad Wienen’s tail.

Dustin was running consistent lap times in the 2:02 range while his competition averaged about four tenths slower.

Catching and passing are sometimes two different things, but as the technical Birch Creek track is notorious for having few passing zones, Wimmer was kept at bay and Wienen was first at the checkers.

In the second moto, Wimmer was strong out of the gate but got hung up in the first turn. Now in 7th position, Wimmer fought his way through traffic trying to catch up to the lead. Finally, in lap eight, he got around both first and second and pulled away for the win. Wimmer’s 2-1 finish gave him his 3rd overall win of the season.

“I knew I had to train hard for this round,” Wimmer said. “In the second moto, I had the confidence to get through the pack and win, so I rode really aggressively to get to where I wanted to be – in the lead.”

Teammate Doug Gust rode like the legend he is, coming back from 12th place after the first turn all the way up to sixth place. Gust’s sixth and tenth place finishes resulting in seventh overall. In the series points, Gust is in eighth place and Wimmer now has a nice six point cushion after only four races.

“The team and the bike are really awesome this year,” Team Manager Kory Ellis explained. “We’re working hard towards getting another championship. We gained 5 points this weekend and that’s in the right direction.”

Catch this week’s motosode on ATVision on quad.transworld.net. Next up in the series is May 2nd/3rd at Sunset Ridge MX in Walnut, IL.

Arctic Cat Announces CMR Sponsorship

Press Release –

Arctic Cat revolutionized mud riding when the Mud Pro 700H1 was introduced as a 2009 model. Not only is it the first stock ATV designed with snorkels and 28” mud tires that can tackle muddy stuff out of the box, it is the first to have its own mud racing class.

Arctic Cat will be the official sponsor of the Mud Pro Class 2. Both Arctic Cat and Championship Mud Racing (CMR) feel like this is a perfect fit for the 2009 Arctic Cat Mud Pro.

“We want to show the world of mud riding enthusiasts that the Mud Pro 700 can be competitive off the showroom floor. That’s why we’re going to back up the class with a larger factory contingency”, said Ted Bettin, Team Arctic ATV Race Coordinator.

Yoshimura’s QuadRacer Kick Start Kit

0

Press Release –

Yoshimura has a solution for serious QuadRacer R450 racers who demand performance and weight savings.

Reducing weight is usually a trade-off when it comes to race machines, but not so with Yoshimura’s Kick Start Kit.

This Kick Start Kit not only pulls almost eight pounds from your LTR but also gets rid of a lot of weight up high, by doing so this lowers the center of gravity, which improves the handling characteristics.

The kit also reduces the mass on the crankshaft thus making for a little more bark and “snappier” overall performance.

The Kick Start Kit includes a capacitor making everything nice and “sparky” as well as a Yoshimura Shift Pin Kit to strengthen the engine cases.

Highlights:

• Saves 8 pounds
• Reduces spinning mass on crank for better performance
• Comes with capacitor to replace battery
• Yoshimura shift pin included – helps to prevent engine case failure.

Part Number: 2115-KSS
MSRP: $505.90 USD

NEW ITP QUADCROSS MX PRO LITE

0

Press Release –

If you are serious about your performance on a motocross track, then you need to take a serious look at ITP’s new QuadCross MX PRO Lite front and rear tires.

The QuadCross MX PRO Lite represents the next big step in race tire technology, by way of significant updates to an already proven product.

Compared to the QuadCross MX PRO, this new tire is a pound lighter in front and two pounds lighter in back — a monumental difference considering the standard tire was already one of the lightest on the market.

The QuadCross MX PRO Lite also features a new 2-ply carcass utilizing a sidewall apex design that stiffens the sidewall during side loads without compromising ride quality.

Acceleration, braking, cornering and overall balance and feel have all benefited from this new carcass as well as a tried-and-true tread pattern, especially on hard-packed track surfaces.

The rear QuadCross MX PRO Lite comes with an all-new rubber compound as well, a high-tech formulation that offers superior grip while still delivering extended wear characteristics.

This is not just a softer tire that hooks up well for three laps and is then ready for the dumpster! This is a pro-level tire now being made accessible to all racers.

The new QuadCross MX PRO Lite was made possible through the tireless efforts and invaluable input of numerous factory riders and technicians during the 2008 racing season, specifically from Team Monster Energy Kawasaki and Team Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson.

These teams are running the QuadCross MX PRO Lite in 2009 as well, and in fact Kawasaki’s Josh Creamer gave the new production model a winning debut in the AMA ATV Pro National season-opening moto at Glen Helen Raceway in March (grabbing a decisive holeshot and leading from wire to wire).

According to team manager Jimmy White, “During pre-season testing we were looking for every advantage we could find, and this new QuadCross MX PRO Lite dropped our lap times by two seconds compared to any other tire we tried — that’s a lot for any single component change, so the choice was obvious.”

Defending ITP/Yamaha QuadCross Series Champion Dustin Nelson used the production tires for the first time at the second round of the 2009 season and took holeshots in both his heat and the main event, and ended up winning for the first time this year. “I definitely noticed a huge improvement for the start and acceleration,” he reported. “The new tires make the bike feel like it has an extra pony or two.”

The new QuadCross MX PRO Lite is now available in 20×6-10 front (P/N 560554) and 18×10-8 rear (P/N 560533) sizes. You can find them at ITP’s trackside support area at all the events on the AMA ATV Motocross Championship Series, ITP/Yamaha QuadCross Series and World Off-Road Championship Series schedules. Of course you’ll find them at your favorite ATV parts source as well — we sell what we race!

Since 1982, ITP has grown into the world’s #1 ATV/UTV aftermarket tire and wheel source, and continues to provide a complete line of innovative tires and wheels for virtually all ATVs and UTVs.
