American Honda and AFT Forge First Official Partnership

May 8, 2019 – DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.
American Flat Track and American Honda Motor Co. proudly announce the first official partnership between the powersports industry leader and AFT in over three decades. As the Series’ newest Official OEM Partner, American Honda has partnered with AFT to bring Honda’s revolutionary sport side-by-side—the Talon—to AFT fans across the country, naming the vehicle the Official Sport Side-by-Side of American Flat Track.

For decades, Honda has been at the forefront of development and production of high-performance dirt bikes. More recently, the Pioneer line diversified the product mix with the addition of several multipurpose side-by-side models. With the reveal of its Talon sport side-by-side last fall, Honda has found the perfect combination of high performance and adventure.

There are two distinct Talon models: the Talon 1000X and Talon 1000R. The 1000X model is designed to be agile and precise, handling nearly all applications with unparalleled maneuverability. The Talon R has a wider stance and increased suspension travel, making it especially well-suited for higher speeds and rougher terrain.

The Talon’s designation as the Series’ Official Sport Side-by-Side will be evident at each round with its implementation as the new trackside support vehicle for Series officials. In addition, the vehicle will assist AFT in the conditioning of certain tracks as part of an enhanced track prep effort.

AFT will also be offering the Honda Talon Flat Track Experience to designated VIP guests and media. At the remaining events of the season, Al Lamb, owner of world-famous Al Lamb’s Dallas Honda, will rip the Talon around the racetracks to demonstrate the power and maneuverability of these off-road machines. Lamb’s accolades include multiple racing records; most notable is his current world record for fastest sit-on motorcycle at the Bonneville salt flats: 262.471 mph.

As an extension of its existing relationship with American Honda, the Richie Morris Racing team will reinforce its proud representation of the brand within the paddock by providing vehicle prep and logistics services for the Talon program between and at each round.

Yamahas GNCC University Returns to Snowshoe Mountain Resort

MARIETTA, Ga. – April 30, 2019 – Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, announces the return of Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) University. Hosted before round eight of the 2019 GNCC series at Snowshoe Mountain Resort in West Virginia from June 19 to 21, Yamaha is bringing together top off-road ATV and motorcycle racers to instruct in-depth courses on the fundamentals of racing.

A panel of professional instructors will head 80 students in several groups of ATV and motorcycle courses. Celebrating 25 years of racing at a pro-level, XC1 Pro ATV rider Johnny Gallagher will lead this year’s Yamaha Racing ATV instructors, along with four-time AMA National GNCC Champion Walker Fowler, and 11-time Women’s Class Champion Traci Pickens. Two-wheel courses will be led by seven-time AMA National Enduro Champion and AmPro Yamaha Racing team owner Randy Hawkins, along with five-time AMA National Hare Scramble Champion Jason Raines, XC1 rider Ricky Russell, and women’s WXC competitors Rachael Archer and Becca Sheets.

“Through GNCC University, participating riders of all skill levels learn ATV or motorcycle racing tips and techniques to put into practice on the track – and who better to acquire it from than current pros and hall-of-famers themselves,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s motorsports group marketing manager. “We’re excited to bring back this very special and unique opportunity to aspiring off-road racers, especially to where it originated years ago at Snowshoe.”

During the GNCC University, students will participate in lectures about sportsmanship, training, proper nutrition, and mental preparation, along with practicing how to tackle hills, grass tracks, woods, rocks, mud, and starts in a competitive setting. Groups will be determined according to bike size and rider skill level to ensure everyone is learning with comparable peers.

Polaris Supports Team Rubicons Flooding Relief Efforts Following Winter Storm Ulmer

April 30, 2019 – While most of the country prepared for the warmer temperatures that spring typically brings, many Midwest states were hunkered down for Winter Storm Ulmer, an intense storm that brought intense wind, blizzard-like conditions, and, in some areas, all-time record flooding due to increased river levels. The storm destroyed an estimated 16 million acres and caused billions of dollars in damage.

Team Rubicon, a veteran-led disaster response organization, is providing assistance and support to the residents of Pine Ridge Reservation, S.D. and Nebraska communities located in Sarpy, Cass, Colfax, and Platte Counties. To help Team Rubicon with their efforts, Polaris® donated six RANGER® utility side-by- side vehicles to help with flooding relief efforts in South Dakota and Nebraska.



“Working with Polaris during a disaster like Winter Storm Ulmer, which brought massive amounts of damage across the Midwest, has a great impact on the mission of Team Rubicon and the survivors that we are serving,” said Brian Meagher, Strategic Partnerships Officer at Team Rubicon. “The ability to come in as a force multiplier to assist Team Rubicon in helping more people is what it is all about.”

Team Rubicon’s crew uses the RANGER vehicles to access remote areas, conduct damage assessments and assist affected residents. These vehicles have also helped with hauling fallen trees and clearing debris to allow access for larger machinery.

2019 SNORE Battle At Primm

Prepped and loaded Thursday night, the RWS / DirtTrax / Ultimate Terrain Can-Am team was ready to take on the next SNORE race: Battle at Primm.

Drivers Mitchell Alsup and Bradley Howe were looking to clinch their second win this season after locking down the W last month.

Short of the Cognito Motorsports tuned shock package and Assault Industries safety products they’ve installed, their Can-Am Maverick X3 Xrs is nearly stock.

Battle at Primm is a two day event running the same 60 mile course each day.

On day one, Howe was in the driver’s seat. The green flag dropped with Howe starting mid-pack in class. Within the first 20 miles, Howe moved through the field taking the lead. The course was extremely muddy and the car was covered with it but Howe never let up.

Over the next forty miles, his lead on the pack grew. Howe settled into a groove, conserving the car while maintaining a comfortable lead, taking the checkered flag with a flawless run.

The team prepped the Can-Am Maverick X3 Xrs for day two, checking every nut, bolt and joint. Prep for the second day is very important because a bad run or DNF could throw out the entire weekend. All systems checked out for day two prep and the team was ready for battle again.

On the line Sunday morning, Alsup took the green flag, starting first in class. Car owner Doug Robison instructed Alsup to overall the heat – meaning Alsup would not only need to win the class but beat all the faster vehicles a class above in his heat.

Alsup took an early lead in his class with eyes set on the overall position. At about race mile 30 the RWS / DirtTrax / Ultimate Terrain Can-Am took the overall spot and Alsup drove to the overall finish without an issue!

This team brings home its second well-deserved win in the 2019 SNORE series.

POLARIS RZR® RACING WINS AT UTV WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AND SCORE SAN FELIPE 250 SEASON OPENER

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (April 10, 2019) – At the fifth-annual Polaris RZR® UTV World Championship in Laughlin, Nevada, Polaris RZR® Factory Racing continued its winning streak with two wins and six podiums from RZR Factory drivers. Additionally, RZR Factory Racing secured two wins and three total podiums at the SCORE San Felipe 250 series opener in Baja California, Mexico.

At the UTV World Championship, Polaris RZR Factory Driver Seth Quintero secured the UTV NA class win, giving the 16-year-old driver three-consecutive wins this season. Polaris privateers Mike De Ley and Dan Kaatz followed Quintero to round out the NA class podium, while RZR Factory Driver Mitch Guthrie Jr. brought home second in the Pro Turbo class. During Sunday’s short course races, Polaris RZR swept the Pro 1000 class podium, as Colby Wemple, Shelby Anderson and Sierra Romo placed first, second and third, respectfully. In the final race of the UTV World Championship, RZR Factory Driver Jacob Carver finished third in the Pro Turbo short course class.

At the SCORE San Felipe 250 season opener, Polaris RZR Factory Racing earned two wins with RZR Factory Driver Wayne Matlock’s Pro Turbo win and Kristen Matlock’s Pro NA win. The two victories mark the second-consecutive year the husband and wife duo each won their class, while Wayne’s Pro Turbo class win gives him three-consecutive San Felipe 250 wins. In the Pro Turbo class, RZR Factory Driver Mike Cafro finished second.

Polaris RZR Factory Racing has secured 13 wins and 25 podiums in the 2019 calendar race series. RZR Factory Racing looks to continue its success at WORCS round four in Las Vegas, Nevada, and LOORS round two in Chandler, Arizona.

VALCOURT, QUEBEC, CANADA, Monday, April 9, 2019 – Behind a third-consecutive UTV Pro Turbo class win by racer Phil Blurton and a stellar UTV Short Course victory by fellow Can-Am Maverick X3 racer Cody Miller, Can-Am dominated the 2019 UTV World Championship races, winning five classes, in Laughlin, Nev. Can-Am racers also competed around the world over the weekend, earning a win at the 2019 Afriquia Merzouga Rally in Morocco, Africa, and tallying another podium at the SCORE International San Felipe 250 in held on the Baja Peninsula in Mexico.

“This was a statement-making weekend for us, winning the two main Pro classes here in Laughlin, but also grabbing three other wins and making history in the process,” said Jeff Leclerc, Team Leader, Can-Am race department. “Blurton and Judge continue to impress behind the wheel of the industry’s most formidable platform. Three straight UTV World Championship trophies is huge for Phil, our racing program and the Can-Am brand.”

The 2019 UTV World Championship race, which serves as round three of the 2019 Best In The Desert race series, easily had more than 400 entries and what many described as one of the toughest courses in years. All eyes were on defending two-time UTV Turbo champion class Phil Blurton, who has had great success at the UTVWC. Blurton and (co-dawg) Beau Judge didn’t disappoint as the tandem piloted their No. 944 Can-Am XPS No Limit RD Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo R side-by-side vehicle to the UTV Turbo class win, making history. No other Pro level racer had ever posted three straight wins, but Blurton drove his turbocharged Can-Am to new heights.

“This was a fantastic race for us, as the our No Limit RD-prepped Can-Am Maverick X3 performed flawlessly and helped us win three straight,” said Blurton. “With the level of competition and number of entries continuing to increase, it just proves our determination and the performance of the Can-Am are as formidable as they come.”

Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo R pilots Derek and Jason Murray (Can-Am ITP Murray Brothers) continued their impressive driving in BITD competition, earning third in the UTV Turbo class, finishing less than 10 minutes behind their Can-Am teammate. William Long (sixth) and Cole Freiday (ninth) also completed all 10 laps in their Can-Am Maverick X3 vehicles to secured top 10 finishes Saturday evening.

Australian Brett Comiskey (Comiskey Mining Services LSR Can-Am), the reigning BITD UTV Unlimited champion, notched his own remarkable 10-lap victory in the Nevada desert, winning his class and crossing the finish with co-pilot Daniel McKenzie in just under three hours and 30 minutes. Racer Michael Isom and James Konces (Mobbin’ Racing No Limit RD Can-Am) grabbed the holeshot and then the runner-up spot in the UTV Unlimited class, just ahead of another Maverick racer in third-place finisher Jeramiah Drew

Can-Am Maverick X3 racers also had great success in both the UTV Rally and UTV S ranks, earning two wins. Justin Bor and his co-driver Abbie Farris got the day started by winning the UTV Rally class, completing all six laps and winning by more than a minute. Cameron and Logan Meister also scored a victory in the five-lap UTV Sportsman race.

Sunday was reserved for short course racing and former ATV motocross racer and former two-time Grand National Cross Country champion Cody Miller had his Maverick X3 Turbo R locked in. Miller battled with his Can-Am Factory teammates Kyle Chaney, and his brother Hunter Miller, but eventually outlasted everyone to record his first UTVWC title. The Texan completed eight laps in roughly one hour and four minutes to earn the win. Chaney finished second, just eight seconds behind, giving Can-Am another 1-2 podium finish.

“This Maverick X3 is one tough vehicle and was perfect today. I couldn’t be happier with the results,” stated Miller. “I’m pumped to finish on top of the podium against this field of talented racers in the one of the most prestigious racers I’ve ever competed in.”

MORE SUCCESS ON A GLOBAL LEVEL
Reigning 2019 Dakar Champion (car) Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah and French co-driver Mathieu Beaumel competed in a Red Bull South Racing Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo R for the first time at the 10th edition of the Afriquia Merzouga Rally in Morocco, Africa. The talented off-road driver, who stated he wanted to try something new and hinted at the possibility of a future Dakar effort in a Maverick X3 SSV, proved his moxie in the Moroccan desert by winning the SxS category.

On the heels of American Casey Currie’s recent victory in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, another American and Monster Energy athlete Marc Burnett also tasted podium glory on foreign soil. He earned third place in the Pro UTV FI class at the 33rd annual SCORE International San Felipe 250 in Mexico. Can-Am racers earned five top-10 finishes in the premier SSV racing class at the opening round of the four-race SCORE 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship series.
