Yokley Wins 5th Consecutive GNCC Championship

0

William Yokley and his Coastal / Polaris / CST / Yoshimura /Yokley Racing Holz-built RZR 900 took the GNCC “XC1 Modified” UTV Championship for fifth consecutive year with Yokley’s teammate, Scott Kiger finishing the season in fourth.

RZRs proved to be a dominant force in the class taking the top five spots for the season, including Yokley’s nephew, John Yokley, taking second in his Big Country Powersports/Yokley Racing RZR 900.

Yokley finished out the season at the Ironman with a fifth in the “XC1 Modified” class and fifth overall, after breaking a rear axle, but had enough series points to seal the championship. Kiger also had mechanical issues and had to be conservative with speed and finished in fourteenth.

“We would like to congratulate Yokley on his fifth championship,” said Donna Beadle, race team manager for Polaris. “The Yokley/Coastal Racing team has incredible dedication to the sport of side-by-side racing and the championship was, once again, well deserved.”

JB RACING CAN-AM MAVERICK TEAM WINS IRONMAN GNCC

0

Can-Am ATV and side-by-side racers notched six class wins, swept the morning 4×4 podium and wrapped up several championships at the 2013 AMSOIL Ironman Grand National Cross Country series finale in Indiana.

The JB Racing / Can-Am Maverick 1000R X rs team, comprised of Tim and Julie Farr, won the XC1 Modified UTV class at the finale for its first overall of 2013.

Can-Am Commander pilot Logan Gastel won his class at the DWT Pure 400 race to earn the 2013 AVE Racing Pure series SxS Pro Production 1000 class championship.

“Can-Am racers had a fabulous finish at the GNCC series finale, winning six classes, including the XC1 UTV Pro class by JB Racing’s Tim Farr. Winning the overall at Ironman was a great way to cap our first GNCC season with the Maverick 1000R,” said Jeff Leclerc, Racing Project Leader, Can-Am. “I applaud Can-Am 4×4 pilots Bryan Buckhannon, Michael Swift, Kevin Trantham and Forrest Whorton on their GNCC 4×4 championships and also Logan Gastel and Aaron Juarez for their 1-2 finish in the Pure racing series.”

Ironman GNCC

JB Racing / Can-Am Maverick 1000R pilot Tim Farr won the XC1 Modified class and UTV overall at the AMSOIL Ironman GNCC in Crawfordsville, Ind.

It was the first victory of the season for Farr and his wife / co-pilot Julie, but the second overall win for the JB Racing / Can-Am team. Farr, starting from row three, held the lead after the first lap and rode a steady race to record his first win with the Maverick 1000R in 2013.

He won by more than 40 seconds over second place and finished the year in sixth place overall in the XC1 UTV class. The NC Powersports / Performance East / Can-Am teams of Stuart Weeks and Devon Steedley also recorded top 10 XC1 class finishes in Indiana.

“The JB Off-road Can-Am team rallied, and put us in the best Maverick we’ve raced all season. It was fast, handled great and ran flawlessly, allowing us to come from a third-row start and lead every lap to take the win. It was a perfect finish to the season and a huge confidence and momentum builder going into 2014,” said Farr.

Can-Am Renegade 800R X xc U2 class racers Michael Swift and Rob Smith came into the Ironman GNCC finale separated by just three points. The two resumed their battle in Indiana. After riding in second place after the first lap, Swift (Team UXC Racing) took over the lead on lap two and never looked back.

Swift went on to post his eighth U2 class victory of the year and win by three points over Smith (BNR), who took second. Kevin Trantham, who tallied 12 wins in a row in his 4×4 Lites championship run, also made the 4×4 podium.

“My Can-Am Renegade 800 X xc performed its very best today at final round of GNCC. We claimed our sixth national championship. I would like to thank BRP and all my 2013 sponsors for a great season of racing,” said Swift.

Outlander 800R and 4×4 Open class champion Bryan Buckhannon (ATV Parts Plus / Can-Am) completed his perfect season, winning all 13 races this year. During his podium presentation, Buckhannon announced he would no longer compete full time on an ATV.

“Winning every round this season really shows the reliability of the Can-Am, and I couldn’t thank my mechanic, Charlie Johnson, enough,” said Buckhannon. “I’m super excited about committing myself 100 percent to racing the Maverick next year.”

Senior 4×4 (40+) Can-Am racer Forrest Whorton piloted his Outlander 4×4 to second place at Ironman to earn the class championship. Can-Am pilot Terry Whiteside won the class. Cory Bartlett, who was racing a Can-Am for the first time, won the 4×4 Novice class.

PURE 400

Murray Racing / Can-Am Commander 1000 X pilot Logan Gastel won the SxS Pro Production class and took second in the SxS overall at the DWT Pure 400 held in California City, Calif., to earn the 2013 championship. Gastel was joined on the podium by Murray Racing / Can-Am racer Aaron Juarez, who took second.

The Pure 400 consisted of two separate 200-mile races and offered three SxS classes. Gastel finished third in his class during the first 200-miles session and trailed Juarez and another racer going into the second session. However, Gastel won the second session and edged Juarez by three points, 193-190, for the class victory. His win, and four other podium finishes, propelled Gastel to the Pro Production class title.

“We have managed to come out on top in points with our 2012 Can-Am Commander. It has been a long, tough-fought series for my team,” said Gastel. “For the 2014 Pure series, I would like to return to defend our title in our new Can-Am Maverick.”

Preventative Maintenance Season Is Here

0

Have you thought about the amount of work you and your faithful machine are bound to accomplish during the fall?

One thing most people don’t consider is the constant strain put on their ATV or SXS while working it hard during this time of year. Here are a few tips you might want to think about.

Making sure you get proper belt tension will keep utility vehicle rolling when you need it.

Getting stuck in the muck at the low lying parts of your property can also put additional strain on the drive lines. CV axles fail due to high stress every year, but this can be prevented.

Grease on your machine’s parts will hold dirt and grime so know that a busted cracked or even just a pin hole in the boot can absorb dangerous amounts of bearing-eating debris.

Simple things like a fouled plug can ruin the day or week if you are in the remote areas by yourself. The biggest mistake many people make is using cheap gas without realizing its potential to varnish the internal fuel delivery system.

It’s true that fuel injection may or may not be affected so much by ethanol, but fuel varnish can clog injector ports.

It is best if you take a minute away from “getting the big buck” this fall or from exploring miles of colorful trails and service the machine you love so you can enjoy many more years of fall riding.

Polaris Awarded Vehicle Contract By USSOCOM

Polaris Industries Inc. (NYSE: PII), the leading manufacturer of off-road vehicles, announced the company was awarded a contract by the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) to provide MRZR Lightweight Tactical All Terrain Vehicles.

This contract award spans up to five years, and allows SOCOM to manage their ultra-light tactical mobility needs to meet mission demands and emerging threats.

The MRZR2 and MRZR4 are highly-mobile, CV-22 transportable, multi-configurable off-road platforms, and will be supplied with accessories, spare parts, mechanical and operator training.

“Polaris is proud to supply the U.S. Special Operations Forces with our high-performing MRZR vehicles,” said Rich Haddad, general manager of Polaris Defense. “As a recognized industry leading original manufacturer of off-road vehicles, Polaris is uniquely positioned to rapidly develop and provide the military with purpose built mobility platforms.”

This award comes on the heels of the five-year contract awarded to Polaris, in August, to provide MV850 ATVs to USSOCOM. The MV850 is a highly-mobile single operator ATV platform, designed for the U.S. military and allied forces.

These recent contract awards reflect Polaris’ commitment to serve the U.S. military and favorably positions the company to supply the US and allied militaries with ultra-light tactical vehicles and mobility solutions.

“These platforms are a modular design to meet the demanding needs of U.S. and international special operations, expeditionary and light infantry forces,” added Haddad. “Both of these vehicles are deployed and in use around the globe, in all of the U.S. military branches and special operations forces along with several allied militaries and special operations forces.”

How many times have you driven past a trailer load of off-road vehicles wonder to yourself just how do those things stay on the trailer?

The Department of Transportation and your friendly neighborhood patrolman are on the lookout for violators to ticket and the fines are not anything to laugh about.

One Tennessee driver found herself in loads of trouble after the side-x-side she’d saddled up on her flatbed trailer was mysteriously absent when she stopped at a gas station halfway through her drive to the ride area.

Do you think she was distracted? The vehicle came off within twelve miles of a 30 mile trip, but it wasn’t until mile 20 that she noticed it was gone.

She explained that she put the rig in park and even turned the steering wheel to the left all the way so it would stay put. She added one small, seemingly sufficient strap to the front of the ride then hopped in the cab and took off.

The roads near her home were a little rough and she felt the trailer bouncing around, but because there was a large ATV in the bed of the truck she just figured the road was what had made the noise.

The side-x-side bounced enough to break the strap and slid right off the rear of her trailer, then proceeded to slide according to witnesses right off the road and turned over on its side. No one was hurt but she was ticketed anyway.

If you have a 1500-pound machine dangling off the rear of the trailer, use large, load-specific straps like ones from Steadymate in multiple tie-down locations or invest in a Superclamp system to secure your load.

HENDERSHOT PERFORMANCE WINS TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS

0

Team Hendershot Performance / Can-Am won the finale double-points round of the American Woods Racing Championship Series to capture both the UTV Open XC1 class and overall AWRCS UTV championship.

The Can-Am Maverick 1000R X rs team, comprised of Larry Hendershot Jr., and Sr., also won the 2013 Woods Extreme X-Country Racing Open UTV class.

“It’s great to have the Hendershot father-and-son team win two different side-by-side woods racing titles. Their success also conveys the appeal of the race-ready Maverick 1000R.” said Jeff Leclerc, Racing Project Leader, Can-Am. “I speak for everyone at BRP who was involved with the development of the Can-Am Maverick, when I say these two dedicated racers deserve a round of applause for their championship efforts.”

The final round of the AWRCS series at Rock Run, Pa., was a double-point finale and the Hendershots, having missed round one, needed a victory to contend for the championship. Winners of three of the last four rounds, Hendershot Performance (Can-Am / MAXXIS / FOX / FMF) wasted no time at the finale, grabbing a top-two spot after lap one.

They took the lead on lap two and never let off. With five of the next six laps under the 10-minute mark, the Hendershots expanded their lead to win both the XC1 class and the SxS overall, beating Team Plavi (Commander™ 1000 X) by almost three minutes.

“The Maverick performed flawlessly in the extremely rocky conditions at Rock Run,” said Larry Jr. “Winning both the WEXCR and AWRCS UTV championship in our first season with the Maverick is awesome. The power, handling and agility of the Maverick are incredible and we look forward to starting the 2014 season with a dominant race car.”

The Hendershots, who had two wins and five podiums in their WEXCR title run, will attend the AMSOIL Ironman Grand National Cross Country race this weekend in Indiana.

Warn ProVantage Plow System

0

With winter quickly approaching, there is no time is better than the present than to start preparing your ATV and side-x-side for winter use.

Warn’s ProVantage Plow is largely recognized as one of the best systems in the market. Available in lengths from 50-60 inches for ATV and up to 72 inches for side-x-side the plow blades are made from 12 gauge Steel with four reinforcing vertical ribs. The industry’s first box welded design is also powder coated to ensure a lasting finishing to match its rugged durability.

With a blade height of 17-and-three-quarter-inches and the option to purchase a tapered blade design; pushing materials from crushed gravel to deep snow is fast and effective.

Its ease of use is largely attributed to the Rapid connection system. Its Easy-On and Easy-Off system is thanks to the front located mount that simply requires you to slide the interconnecting tubes together and lock them in place with self-locating pin design.

UTV WORKHORSE

Without a doubt, side-x-sides have made their mark on the offroad industry and are here to stay.

Manufacturers are producing some of the most advanced machines in our history and it won’t be long before we see another wild side-x-side released.

Yamaha however seems to be focused less on the sport market and more on utility sales throughout its dealer network nationwide.

The 2014 Yamaha Viking boasts a 700cc engine and after a run through the hills of Ten Sleep Wyoming it was clear that this mill still had some legs.

The hard-working men and women at The Red Reflet Ranch in Ten Sleep spoke very highly of their Yamaha Vikings and explained how much they really needed a side-x-side like it to keep their farm operating smoothly.

The work/utility capabilities of the Viking keep The Red Reflet Ranch running and for many rural areas an affordable UTV could be the difference between ranches staying alive or folding.

Yamaha is clearly focused right now on this segment of the market, which seems to be paying off and with the success of the Viking; it may not be long before we see a sportier model added to Yamaha’s lineup.

CAN-AM RACERS CAPTURE TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS

Can-Am ATV and side-by-side racers competed in many different off-road series last weekend, coming away with a couple championships and several wins.

Maverick 1000R pilot Steve Beilman secured the 2013 UTV Unlimited class championship with a top-five finish at the Lucas Oil Off-Road Regional Racing Series race in Southern California.

NEATV-MX

Can-Am Pro Travis Moore won the first pro Moto at AK Farms MX and then rode to a cautious fifth-place finish in moto two to capture his first ever NEATV-MX ATV Pro championship and second straight for Can-Am.

Can-Am DS 450 pilots Mathieu Deroy took second in the Pro class and Jake Chamberland, who won the College Boy and 4-Stroke A titles, took third in Pro-Am. Can-Am racers also notched one more class win and 10 additional podium finishes at the finale.

Kevin Trantham’s 11-race winning streak is also intact, after the Outlander 500 racer won the 4×4 Lites class. Terry Whiteside won the 4×4 Senior (40+) class. Team Night Krawler Kustom, which took fifth, was the top finishing Can-Am in the XC1 Modified UTV class. The Ironman GNCC is scheduled for Oct. 26-27, in Crawfordsville, Ind.

WORCS

Can-Am DS 450 Pro racer Dillon Zimmerman (GPS / Can-Am) earned a second-place podium finish in the ATV Pro class at the World Off-Road Championship Series finale held at Buffal Bills Casino in Primm, Nev. However, the event was also highlighted by the return of ATV Pro Josh Frederick, who suited up and carefully participated in the parade lap.

In the SxS Pro Production UTV class, Murray Racing / Can-Am pilot Dave Martinez took fourth place. IMG Motorsports / Can-Am Maverick driver James Hill, 12th in Primm, captured third overall in the final Pro Production class standings.
