DUNLOP TIRE TO SPONSOR ATV TOUR HELMET CAM

0

Press Release –

Dunlop Tire will be an official sponsor of the WPSA PowerSports ATV Tour during the 2007 season.

As part of its 2007 program, Dunlop will be the featured sponsor for the “QuadTerrain Helmet Cam.”

“We’re pleased to welcome a sponsor of Dunlop’s stature to the PowerSports ATV Tour,” said PowerSports Entertainment, Inc. CEO Rick Murphy. “We look forward to showcasing the Dunlop brand at each of our venues, and on television, during the 2007 season.”

The move comes after a breakout 2006 racing season for Dunlop with SuperQuad Pro 450 MX success with Team Suzuki’s Doug Gust and the radial QUADMAX Sport technology as well as Quad Terrain success with Arctic Cat’s Daryl Rath and the QUADMAX utility range.

“We are excited to partner with the PowerSports ATV Tour in 2007,” said Dennis Teed, Dunlop Director ATV Business Unit. “We were impressed with the visibility the Tour garnered last season, making it an easy decision for us to come on as a sponsor. Plus, the Tour gives us a perfect place in which to continue development of ATV racing’s top racing tires.”

RENEGADE IS TORRID FAST!

Got a ride on Can-Am’s Renegade 800 the other day. This thing certainly changes all the rules about Sport Class 4-wheelers. You can’t help but be impressed (maybe even intimidated) with the kind of power this thing delivers.

In 2-wheel drive you can wick the throttle at any speed and its EFI V-twin delivers crack-the-whip, instantaneous power to the rear wheels and, if…IF you can get them to hook up, it catapults forward with rocket launcher thrust.

I like the ergonomics of this ATV. Yes, it does feel a bit heavier than most solid axle Sport ATVs but the power is so urgent and the handling so precise, you never feel its bulk.

It seems to have a pretty low CG and loves to broadslide – it’s extremely stable in this mode and with this much power it virtually broadslides all the time. Just feed in more throttle in a turn and the back end comes around instantaneously.

4WD is a cool feature on a bike like this and just adds to the versatility. It actually tracks better on loose surfaces with 4WD engaged and corners like a Suburu WRX rally car with all four wheels churning.

I love this no-push style oversteer and you end up actually steering the Renegade with the throttle – fun to practice.

Through the bumps, it’s pretty good, too. You can definitely sense the superiority of independent rear suspension when riding through the stutters – very confidence inspiring.

Couldn’t tell much about the shocks – need more time to ride, especially on harder surfaces.

Arctic Cat Releases Diesel Fueled ATV

0

Press Release –

Slated for dealerships in early 2007, Arctic Cat has completed development of a twin-cylinder diesel ATV, the only one on the market.

The Arctic Cat diesel Super Duty ATV, based off the popular TRV 4×4 platform, will be aimed at markets around the globe. In fact, that is how the whole concept started.

In European markets, half of passenger vehicles and most off-road vehicles rely on diesel fuel that can be up to 25% the cost of gasoline. Other users of the ATV are the military, which are working toward one common fuel (JP 8) for all their vehicles, others include American farmers and ranchers who continue to use diesel in all their machinery.

The 700 twin cylinder, SOHC diesel engine, provides 30% greater fuel mileage over a conventional gasoline engine and provides gobs of low-end torque. The engine runs efficiently on six forms of diesel fuel (DF 1, DF 2, DF A Arctic, JP 5, JP 8 and Bio Diesel) with a glow plug pre-heater assist for starting.

If the term Bio Diesel has caught your attention, Arctic Cat tested the new ATV on the alternative fuel made from vegetable oil or animal fat with the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI) and the Minnesota Soybean Growers.

“Arctic Cat was very impressed with B20”, says Ole Tweet, VP of New Product Development. “The blend burns cleaner than conventional diesel, producing fewer carbon dioxide emissions and lower levels of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and particulates. That complements Arctic Cat’s stewardship goals”, Tweet says. “We’re trying to reduce the impact of our ATV’s on the environment and we like the idea of making an ATV that could run on renewable fuel grown by farmers, some of our best customers.”

WPSA ATV Tour Racing Class Structure

0

Press Release –

The WPSA PowerSports ATV Tour will sanction 27 Pro, Pro Am, Youth and Amateur classes during the 2007 ATV racing season.

Due to an overwhelmingly positive response, the Tour has added the Pro SuperSport “UTV” class to its Pro lineup, which also includes the popular SuperQuad Pro 450 MX and the Pro Stock QuadTerrain Challenge classes.

“When we ran the side-by-side vehicles at our last race of 2006, the excitement from our fans, our teams and our stakeholders was unmistakable, making it an obvious addition to our already thrilling Pro ATV racing show,” said PowerSports Entertainment, Inc. CEO Rick Murphy. “This, along with some important changes in our Pro-Am, Amateur and Youth classes, should make 2007 one of our most exciting seasons on record.”

In addition to the changes in the Pro classes, the Tour will provide alternative lines for riders wishing to run in the Amateur QuadTerrain Challenge classes, which includes Stock Lites (601-700cc), Stock Unlimited (601+cc), and Modified.

“We are dedicated to our ladder system in the PowerSports ATV Tour,” said Scott O’Malley, president of PowerSports Entertainment, Inc. “It’s important we allow Amateur riders, who have limited budgets and experience, a place to compete with an eye on stepping up to our top QuadTerrain Challenge Class. Alternative, amateur, lines will give these riders a place to compete without the concern of damaging equipment or racing at a level beyond their experience.”

The Tour has made several notable changes to its youth classes. Production Lites 13-15 will remain the same as in years past, while the 0-50cc Junior and Senior Classes have been modified.

The 0-50cc Limited Class (4-6) will be open to quads with automatic clutch, and CVT belt drives, while the 0-55cc Production Class (6-8) will be open to quads with auto clutches.

The balance of the youth classes are: 51-70cc (production, auto clutch 6-11); 70cc (shifter, 6-11); 71-90cc, 2 Stroke, 75-125cc, 4 Stroke Production (8-11); 71-90cc, 2 Stroke, 75-125cc, 4 Stroke Production (12-15); 90cc Production (CVT belt drive, 8-15); 75-125cc 4 Stroke Production (8-15); 90cc 2 Stroke, 125cc 4 Stroke Modified (8-12); and 105cc 2 Stroke, 150cc 4 Stroke SuperMini (12-15).
