Polaris Ranger 700 EFI Takes The Cake As Best UTV

0

UTVs or Side by Sides have been around for a number of years but have skyrocketed to prominence recently as the introduction of some new, innovative models with exciting features have opened up the market to a much wider population than before.

With significant power and really good handling and suspension, the appeal of the UTV has become universal. It’s fun to experience off-road riding with another person, too and these machines will go virtually anywhere an ATV will go.

They’re narrow enough to be ridden down conventional trails and offer extreme comfort, amazing climbing ability and a thrilling driving experience.

Out of the five contenders we chose for the Best UTV Award in the All-Terrain Vehicle Magazine’s Best In Class issue, we agreed on the Polaris Ranger 700EFI as the overall winner.

It’s a tough choice and the runners-up in this category are all very strong contestants. What tipped the scales in the Ranger’s favor is its power.

The smoothness and linear power delivery of the big-inch electronically fuel injected twin under the Ranger is absolutely impressive in this application.

Throttle tip-in is immediate and the engine’s power is both velvet smooth and laden with ominous torque.

Two other things make the Ranger a winner. It’s cargo capacity is extremely good and its suspension, both front and rear, is excellent. The fact it has a three passenger bench seat is a big asset when you need the extra space for hauling an extra passenger out of the woods.

When it comes to the final cut though, it’s all about the fabulous power this UTV makes.

Yamaha Rhino Tough To Beat

0

Yamaha’s Rhino is a tough act to beat and it makes our choice of a first place finisher in All-Terrain Vehicle Magazine’s Best UTV category tough to explain.

Its 660cc engine is a strong performer and its short wheelbase gives it a fun and playful demeanor that’s downright contagious.

You can hit berms, crank the steering wheel and bring the tail out in a NASCAR powerslide deserving of media coverage.

Its strength is also its weakness. The fact the Rhino is short and nimble limits room for cargo and passenger space.

Its twin buckets are supportive and comfortable, though, and its harness system inspires confidence in the driver and passenger when the Rhino is being thrown around – and it will be.

Prowler Stands Up To Competition

0

Arctic Cat’s new Prowler is a breakthrough UTV. With a couple of strong examples to live up to, the Rhino and Ranger, Arctic Cat has hit the nail squarely on the head.

Closer in dimensions to the Rhino than the Ranger, the Prowler makes maximum use of storage under the hood and has very good cargo and towing capacity ratings.

Power is adequate although not as impressive as the other two here. Fit and finish is excellent and the Prowler is loaded with value-added standard features.

Maxxis Starts Off with Bang at GNCC Opener

Press Release –

Old habits die hard like Maxxis habit of sponsoring riders who consistently make the top ten in the GNCC ATV.

The 2006 opener was no exception: Chris Borich practically ran circles around the competition to take the victory, which gnccracing.com called one of the most dominant wins in GNCC history.

Brandon Ballance took the third sport on the podium, Chris Jenks placed fourth, and 2005 ATVA National Motocross Champion John Natalie nabbed fifth place. Defending GNCC ATV champion Bill Ballance overcame a mechanical mishap to take the eighth place spot. The Orange Crush was held March 4-7 in De Leon Springs, Florida.

Borich told gnccracing.com that his strong performance was the result of intense preparation: I knew everyone else would be strong, so Ive been training really hard and working at this. I felt good. I just kept pushing and never felt tired. It was only a couple miles in, and I looked back and couldnt see anybody. I was thinking, Cool. Borich finished second overall for the season in the GNCC ATV in 2005.

The next GNCC event is the Maxxis General, to be held March 11-12 in Washington, Georgia. Maxxis is proud to sponsor Chris Borich, Brandon Ballance, Chris Jenks, John Natalie, and Bill Ballance, and congratulates them on their outstanding performances.

Gator Takes A Bite Out of UTV Market

0

John Deere’s Gator XP takes a different slant on the UTV market and caters very seriously to the working and utility marketplace.

The Gator is the largest selling UTV in the world and JD could be credited with inventing the category in the first place.

The XP is a sportier version of the Gator and comes closer in its appeal to the first three in this group.

DUVALL RETURNS TO GNCC AS ITP RIDER REP

Press Release –

In January of 2005, fans of the ATVA Grand National Cross Country Championship Series were shocked to hear that Chad DuVall had been diagnosed with a form of leukemia.

To that point the 38-year-old West Virginia native had become one of the most successful ATV woods racers in the history of the series (top 10 in the national standings 9 times, 4 times in the top 3), and was one of the most well-liked and respected racers on the circuit.

Incredibly, DuVall went on to compete throughout the 2005 GNCC Series, and even captured three top-ten finishes, including a character-defining third overall at round seven in Millfield, Ohio. The life-threatening disease and medication required to fight it was taking its toll during most events, however, and Chad decided to announce his retirement at the end of the year.

But, thankfully, we haven’t seen the last of Chad DuVall. Good doctors, medicine and his family—as well as DuVall’s fighting spirit—have gotten control of his disease, and Chad will be returning to support the sport he loves as the official Rider Representative for ITP at all of the GNCC events in 2006.

DuVall was an ITP rider during much of his career and provided considerable input into the development of numerous ITP products, making him an ideal candidate for his new position. If you have any questions concerning ITP tires and wheels, contingency, sponsorship, or just need some advice on how to win in the woods, you can find Chad at ITP’s trackside support vehicle or next to the trail.

You won’t find a more knowledgeable and personable company spokesman anywhere, and ITP is proud to have him on our team. It’s just one more way we’re demonstrating our full commitment to the sport of ATV racing. For more information, visit ITPtires.com.

KTM Becomes Polaris’ Distributor in Germany

Press Release –

Polaris announces that effective March 1, 2006 KTM-Sportmotorcycle AG has become Polaris’ exclusive distributor in Germany for Polaris All Terrain Vehicles, Quadricycles, Snowmobiles and Polaris RANGER™ vehicles.

“KTM has established a dedicated sales force to manage the Polaris brand and product sales. KTM will leverage our back office operations in Germany to increase sales, build the Polaris brand, and increase dealer service and satisfaction while minimizing distribution costs. We are excited to get this project started” said Hubert Trunkenpolz, KTM’s Vice President of Marketing & Sales.

“Polaris is excited to leverage KTM’s strong presence and understanding of the German Powersports market to further develop the Polaris brand and sales in Germany” said Mark Blackwell, Polaris Vice President Victory Motorcycles and International Operations. “Polaris dealers in Germany will sign a separate Polaris dealer contract with KTM and be managed by a separate sales force dedicated to the Polaris product line. While there will be some common KTM and Polaris dealers in Germany going forward, market conditions in specific areas and individual dealer capabilities required for the KTM and Polaris product lines will dictate how many common dealers there will ultimately be.”

In July 2005, Polaris and KTM announced a strategic partnership with the goal of strengthening the competitive position of both companies and providing tangible benefits to customers, dealers, suppliers and shareholders. KTM’s distribution of Polaris products in Germany supports this goal.

It is not expected that KTM will become the distributor of Polaris products in any other European market in the near future. According to Mark Blackwell, “We want to focus our joint cooperative distribution effort on this key market to ensure success and demonstrate the compatibility of our product lines, brand positioning and dealer networks.”
