KTM’S TIM FARR WINS ATV ENDUROCROSS

0

Press Release –

KTM’s Tim Farr added to his already impressive year with another win, this time at the first-ever ATV EnduroCross!

The ATV EnduroCross took place on Sunday October 7th at the Lazy-E Arena, the day after the second round of the Endurocross series. Saturday’s track was modified to better accommodate for ATV’s; most notably it was wider than the previous night when only motorcycles were allowed on the course.

ATV racers were excited to try this new event and were eager to see how challenging the course would be. Farr stated, “The course was fun, but challenging.

The rock section stalled most people, including myself.” The majority of riders agreed that the rock section proved to be the most difficult obstacle of the night as it was hard to find a good line through the rocks especially if someone else was already stuck there.

Farr faired well throughout the entire day. His streak began when he won his qualifier. He then turned over the best qualifying lap time giving him first gate pick for the main. In the main, it was Farr who came around the first corner grabbing the holeshot. By the end of the first lap he already had a five second lead!

“The toughest part of the main was getting around the lappers,” Farr reported. “The track was one-lined and when a lapper had that line, it was hard to find a route around them.” Despite the lapped traffic, he found a way through and maneuvered safely around the course to take home the win with a 20 second lead over second place.

“I had a lot of fun today, my KTM 450XC Sport ATV was running great, so all I had to do was ride safe and keep a good controlled pace.” Farr is on his way to proving himself as one of the most versatile Pro ATV riders on the scene as he has already secured a Supermoto and Dirt Track championship title this year.

Farr and his KTM machine have proved to be quite the winning match, and the year’s not done yet!

Dunlop Quadmax Sport: Appearing On Podiums Soon

Press Release –

Dunlop ATV Tires is pleased to announce the release of the all-new Dunlop Quadmax Sport ATV tire, a next-generation design that is destined to carry competitors to the top of podiums across America.

“The Dunlop Quadmax Sport is a high-performance radial ATV tire that we’ve purpose-built for the track,” said Steve Yanacek, Dunlop’s off road and ATV product and marketing manager. “The new design takes our first generation tire and elevates its performance in every parameter, including turn-in, cornering, and drive-out traction. It all adds up to quicker times, lap after lap, in racing conditions.”

With more radial ATV tire experience than any other manufacturer, Dunlop’s engineers tapped into their wealth of R&D and practical experience to redevelop the first-gen Quadmax Sport.

“We examined every aspect, including carcass construction, rubber compounds and tread pattern, to maximize racing performance,” Dunlop Tire Development Engineer Geoff Klein explained. “The new tire represents our best thinking, backed up by extensive real-world testing.”

For example, while it’s a lot of fun for recreational riders to slide the rear end around, Dunlop understands that racers need a tire to be predictable with progressive slide control and side grip for quick hook up and drive out of a corner.

Utilizing the latest compounding technology, combined with a computer-designed, closely blocked tread pattern and tempered with Dunlop’s vast off road experience, the new Quadmax Sport offers greatly improved traction—both off the line for holeshots, plus ‘hook and go’ drive out of corners.

As a plus, the rear tires are duo-directional. When matched on the wheels, they perform extremely well rotating in the opposite direction. This added adaptability allows racers to reverse the direction of rotation as the rear tires wear and continue racing, a significant savings to teams.

“We worked just as hard on the front tire design and it tracks extremely well,” added Klein. “Going into corners it doesn’t push to the outside and the tire holds a line well with very good steering feel, allowing rider to change lines as desired.”

Of course, the Quadmax Sport maintains all the inherent benefits of radial construction, notably a superior contact patch and a compliant ride for less rider fatigue. Dunlop’s engineers focused a great deal of effort tuning the tire’s carcass plies and circumferential belts to preserve these desirable qualities even at the very edge of the performance envelope.

Another benefit of radial design is found in both front and rear tires working together as a system, a key aspect of development that was perfected in real-world racing conditions at Dunlop’s Proving Grounds in Huntsville, Alabama and at race track across the country.

The new Quadmax Sport is produced in the following sizes and will be available at Dunlop retailers in the first quarter of 2008:

Front:
– AT19x6R10
– AT20x6R10
– AT21x7R10

Rear:
– AT18x10R8
– AT18x10R9
– AT20x11R9

Press Release –

Monster Energy Kawasaki ATV rider Josh Creamer earned the overall victory after two solid moto wins during round eight of the ITP QuadCross in Surprise, Ariz.

Making his lone appearance to the series, Creamer made an immediate impact on the competition by launching his Kawasaki KFX®450R to the holeshot in the first moto.

After one lap, he was in second and waited patiently till he was able to get around the leader and come across the finish with the moto win.

In the second moto, Creamer got the holeshot again, but this time by several bike lengths. He led from start to finish and took home the overall victory.

“The track was pretty wet and I ran out of tear-offs in the first moto,” said Creamer. “I did my best to keep it fast. I really liked the track. It was more my style, especially with the jumps. This race really helped us continue our progress in fine-tuning this new quad. We were able to see what worked and how we can move forward.”

Can’t Decide Between A Grizz or A Rincon

Question:

We currently own a Honda 450 Foreman. We’re very impressed with how tough and durable it is, but it is not great on speed. We take alot of trips of between 100 to 300km per trip.

We want to upgrade to a bigger ATV and are considering either a Yamaha Grizzly 700 or the Honda 700 Rincon. Taking into consideration durability, toughness and speed, what would be our best buy for our money and what are the pros and cons of each?

Thanks,

Gino and Patricia

Response:

Thanks for your email!

First, it sounds like you’re happy with your Honda – mostly.

I would be concerned firstly with the relationship you have with your dealer. If you have a good dealer now, stick with him (or her). That will mean more than anything in a new ATV purchase.

The ATV’s you’ve asked about are both good models. In our experience the new Grizz 700 EFI is significantly faster (at top speed) than the Honda. The Grizz will run past 60 mph – handily. The Rincon is less likely to achieve top speed #’s in this range.

From a reliability standpoint – both these ATV’s are very durable and will stand-up to the abuse you can throw at it. I wouldn’t be afraid of either.

Good luck!

Cat Wins First Ever WPSA UTV Championship

0

Press Release –

The 2007 World Powersports Association National UTV season is now in the books, and Team Arctic placed 2 Prowler teams in the top 4 spots.

Kyle Fiebelkorn led the crew to bring home the first-ever Arctic Cat UTV championship aboard his Prowler XT.

Kyle remarked about his results, “I had a lot of fun in the Pro Supersport series. The Arctic Cat Prowler is a stout machine that really takes a pounding. Some of these jumps are monstrous, but with a little bit of tuning our Prowlers ran really strong and outpaced our competitors.”

Kyle’s SPI Racing teammate, Daryl Rath took fourth place honors and commented, “Our team worked really hard on these Prowlers, I look forward to racing them in the future.”

The championships and awards didn’t end for Arctic Cat in the UTV division. In the Quad Terrain Challenge, Jesse West won the Championship aboard his Arctic Cat 650H1, while his brother Josh took Pro Rookie of the Year honors. Bringing home Third place title was SPI Racing’s Rory Beckman.

“I couldn’t be much happier with how our season went,” said Arctic Cat Race Manager Ted Bettin. “The Team Arctic/Jack Links/SPI Racing Prowlers were quite fun to watch and pretty entertaining for the crowd. The SpeedWerx crew did a great job race tuning our 650H1 motor. The Prowler proved there’s a new performance player in town.”

So what’s next for Arctic Cat? Bettin says, “We learned a lot from the Pro SuperSport racing series. This is a rapidly growing market and Arctic Cat plans to expand its boundaries!”

WINTER – ATV QUAD TERRAIN CHALLENGE SERIES

0

Press Release –

(CPRA) Canadian Powersports Racing has announced that they will promote a new series of ATV races in Ontario this winter.

“We’re pleased to introduce Quad Terrain ATV racing at our CSRA Snocross events this winter,” said Canadian Powersports Racing President Ken Avann. “We have had numerous requests from racers and the Powersports industry to promote a professional ATV racing series. Our winter Quad Terrain series will feature racing classes for Sport Utility 4X4 ATVs.”

Most ATV owners can relate to this class, as they own the same type of 4X4 ATV that the racers are competing with. ATV manufactures such as Arctic Cat, and Can-Am have already introduced factory supported Quad Terrain teams that use Quad Terrain racing to test the durability of new production ATVs.

The CPRA “Quad Terrain Challenge” series will take place at well established CSRA Snowcross racing events in Ontario.

During competitions, racers will compete head to head on a closed course over a variety of challenging terrain that will test the ATVs durability as well as the rider’s skills and physical fitness.

Schedule Of Events:

December 9 – Sault Ste Marie, Ont.
January 20 – Owen Sound, Ont.
February 3 – Peterborough, Ont.
February 10 – Bracebridge, Ont.
March 2 – Kirkland Lake, Ont.
March 9 – North Bay, Ont.

The CPRA ATV series will feature (2) race classes for Sport Utility ATVs with engine displacement up to 700cc. Juniors 16-17 years of age will compete in the “Stock Lites” class which includes 4X4 ATVs with a engine displacement of 0-600cc.

Adults 18 years of age or older will compete in the Pro Stock 0-700cc class. All racers are required to wear approved safety equipment and the ATVs used for competition must meet specific CPRA safety standards.

In addition to prizes and awards the CPRA will provide a minimum guaranteed purse of $12,000 for the Pro Stock class. Prize money will be allocated to competitors at each event as follows.
1st = $1000, 2nd = $500, 3rd = $250, 4th = $150, 5th = $100

FARR CELEBRATES ATVA EDT CHAMPIONSHIP

0

Press Release –

KTM’s Tim Farr had already secured a Championship in the ATVA Extreme Dirt Track Series, but traveled to Brownstown, Illinois this past weekend for the final EDT race of the year.

The Fayette County Fairground track was designed specifically for the event. The track was very short and low speed compared to all the others on the EDT circuit. In addition, it had an option lane to encourage passing.

The thirteen-time Pro Champion struggled with a series of bad luck throughout Saturday night, but he used his experience to make the most of some difficult circumstances.

Farr started off the night with a fourth place pick on the line for his heat race. The promoter decided to water the track as the riders were on the line for the heat race and Farr was forced to start from a very wet position on the track. Needless to say, Farr spun off the line.

Farr rounded the first corner in the sixth place position. Farr used the split lanes to pick off riders one by one. With three laps remaining in the heat, Farr had worked his way into second place and then quickly passed Brandon Hill for the lead.

Farr then stretched out his lead to take an exciting heat race win. Zack Stanley of Mocksville, North Carolina took the win in the second heat race of the evening.

Later in the evening, the riders took to the track for their last EDT main event of the year. When the light turned green, all twenty riders tried to make their way to the front.

Several riders’ rubbed tires and chaos ensued sending quads cart wheeling through the air. Farr and another rider got locked together in an attempt to avoid the mayhem. Luckily, none of the riders were hurt and a complete restart was issued.

All of the riders involved in the accident were sent to the third row. Much to his dismay, the referee included Farr in that group. On the restart, Farr rode safely around the first corner in last place position and then went to work.

Much to the delight of the fans, Farr once again knocked off rider after rider and began his charge to the front. The small track made passing difficult, but Farr made it look easy.

Farr moved all the way up to third position and was on the rear bumpers of (Ryan) Partee and Hill at the checkers. It was an impressive comeback to say the least.

Farr dominated the series on his new KTM Sport ATV. Farr was presented his Championship plate following the race. Farr and KTM have already earned two Championships together this year.
