Jones Sizzles At Sunset Ridge

Press Release –

Jeremiah Jones went 1-1 this weekend making the 11th round of ATVA MX Nationals his own private playground. Jones’s back-to-back first place motos catapulted him from fourth to second in overall points. Jones is well and truly on a terror.

“In the first moto, I came out of the hole shot in second behind Harold Goodman, with Doug (Gust) right behind me. After we pulled past Harold, we put on one heck of a battle.”

Jones and Gust traded the lead for several laps. The race seemed destined to recreate another one-two punch from Team Yoshimura Suzuki. But with three laps to go, teammate Doug Gust suffered an unknown problem and bailed off of a large jump in mid-air. Fortunately, Doug was able to get away from the quad and although battered, suffered no serious injury.

“I got pretty banged up for sure.? Gust said. ?I nearly endo’d the bike and went right off the track. I went on to ride the second moto, but it was tough.”

“It’s just the worst thing that can happen to a rider,” added Team Manager Wayne Hinson “You’re in the air and coming down knowing you’re going to wreck? time to bail out! Luckily, Gust is Pro enough to know how to control a fall.

In the second moto, Jones hammered to the lead early and never looked back. “I got the holeshot and just ran a clean race from start to finish.” The competition was no match for Jones and his LT-R450, and he finished in first place with 15 seconds between him and the second place finisher.

Hinson had only a few words to describe Jones’ back-to-back domination: “Jeremiah just decimated them!”

Jeremiah was excited to have a third set of double moto wins in a GNC Championship competition. “I had a great day,” Jones said. “The bike was just haulin? for me and I was on!”

And so he was. With Jones now in second place with 219 points, he has become a serious contender for the title. Given Jones early season point deficit it seems impossible, but here he is. If Jones can pull this off, it would be one of the biggest comebacks in GNC racing history.

Gust is not to be counted out with 217 points, and the pair will surely continue to be a dangerous duo as Team Yoshimura Suzuki continues to push for wins.

Kenda K538 Executioner

If you’re riding mud and slop these are the tires you’ve gotta have. The Executioners’ super deep lug design and wide lug spacing means they bite down hard and clean out when you pour the coal to your mud-bound ATV in 4×4.

The dimpled tread surface and reinforced knobs still allow decent traction for low pressure tires on hard surfaces but mud is where they’re happiest.

These ones carry a 6-ply rating so there’s limited sidewall flex and uncanny resistance to sidewall punctures.

Atlantic Grand Prix Event Cancellation

0

To all Atlantic Grand Prix participants the race scheduled for this weekend July 15 and 16 at North American Warhorse in Dunmore PA is Canceled due to water damage from the storms at the end of June that dropped more than between 12″ and 15″ of rainfall on parts of Northeastern Pennsylvania and New York state.

The conditions of the trails up on the mountain behind North American Warhorse are a mess. Both stream crossings are impassable requiring bridges. The trails are all washed out and will require a lot of work.

Now while most club or association promoters might have gone a head and run the race we at Atlantic Grand Prix pride ourselves on putting on only the best races on the best courses anywhere in the Northeastern United States.

For that reason we’ve decided to cancel just this event and make the weekend of July 15 and 16 a WORK WEEKEND so that we can put in all new course as well as construction of few new bridges. If you’re interest in helping, we’ll be parked in the area where we run the races right behind North American Warhorse both Saturday and Sunday.

If you’re interested in helping out come on up. Bring loppers, a bow saw or a Chain saw…bring your quad or your bike and if you have construction skills…bridge building is going to be required…we’ll supply food and drinks.

Again thanks for your continued support in build the best little off-road series in the country.

P.S. The North American Warhorse race for August 5th and 6th is still on!

Schedule is as follows:

Aug. 5 & 6 – North American WarHorse, Dunmore, PA
Aug. 19 & 20 – The Logan Farm, Cortland, NY
Sept. 2 & 3 – North American WarHorse, Dunmore, PA
Sept. 16 & 17 – Thunder Ridge MX Park, New Berlin, NY
Oct. 14 & 15 – Sahara Sand and Gravel, Eaglewood, NJ
Oct. 28 & 29 – Little Egg Harbor, NJ
Nov. 4 & 5 – Irish Valley Moto & ATV Park, Paxinos, PA

Performance Device Used at Pikes Peak Hill Climb

Press Release –

The 84th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb was dominated this year by drivers who used an ingeniously simple, performance enhancing fuel-saver device called the VortexValve, manufactured by Air Synergy Labs, Inc. located in Las Vegas, NV.

Canadian, Jim Goertz set a new record for the Quad Division. Driving #84, Jim said his quad was strong through the lower half of the course. He credits the VortexValve with providing a good amount of extra mid-range torque and said that despite the fact the upper half of the course was covered with loose gravel the increased torque and traction made it easier to navigate. This is Goertz’ first victory in this event.

The Pikes Peak International Hillclimb (PPIHC) is an annual tarmac/gravel automobile and motorcycle hillclimb to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado, a distance of 12.42 miles. With more than 156 turns, 42 to the Finish Line which is atop the Peak at 14,110 feet, it’s no wonder why this is called the “Race to the Clouds”.

The PPHIC is a race sanctioned by Rally America. Drivers from around the world challenge each other in this annual race for the Penrose Trophy. Racing up the mountain at speeds exceeding 120 MPH, around blind curves and on loose gravel, each driver races against the clock.

The second oldest race in the USA (the Indy 500 is the oldest), the PPHIC has taken place since 1916 and is currently contested by four classes of cars (Super Stock Car, Unlimited, Open Wheel, Open Stock Car, and Exhibition), seven classes of motorcycle (Quads, 250cc, 450cc, 750cc, SuperMoto, Vintage, and Sidecars), and modified trucks. There are often numerous new classes tried and discarded year-to-year. On average there are 150 competitors.

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the highest and arguably the most spectacular hill climb in the world.

Team Yoshimura Suzuki At Taylorville WPSA

Press Release –

Team Suzuki continued to power its way through the WSPA series with another main event win for Jeremiah Jones at Jack Link’s “Feed Your Wild Side ATV Championship.”

His first place finish on Saturday followed his thrilling victory in round 4, and his back-to-back wins put him in striking distance of both current points leader Dustin Wimmer and Suzuki teammate Doug Gust.

SATURDAY-ROUND 1 -The first heat race seemed to sow seeds of victory for Jones, who took first in his heat ahead of?teammate Doug Gust. “I got the holeshot, and from there on it was smooth sailing,” Jones said, who narrowly lost to Dustin Wimmer in the second heat.

But in the main event Jones was not to be denied, pulling out ahead of Wimmer on the third lap. “Wimmer got the hole shot, and I came out right behind. It took three or four laps for me to catch up. Finally, I got around him and took him down.”

Doug Gust had a tougher start from seventh position, but climbed the ladder to a third place finish, and the podium was two-thirds Suzuki.

SUNDAY-ROUND 2 -Jones continued his domination by winning both his heat races on Sunday. In the main event, both Jones and Gust were gunning for Wimmer until a mechanical issue took Gust out in the 10th lap.

Doug had been leading Jones through the pack and they had their sights on Wimmer when Gust’s machine faltered. “I heard something on lap two and held back,” Gust explained, “but then it went away and I was able to make up some ground. I pulled into second with Jeremiah behind me, and then all of a sudden I was dead in the water.” With Gust sidelined, Jones closed on Wimmer but ran out of time coming in a close second.

Team Manager Wayne Hinson was excited for Jones. “It was a great weekend for Jeremiah,” Hinson said, noting that Jones has pulled into third in overall points standings, only 20 points off from Wimmer.

Doug Gust is in second only 8 points from the # 1 spot. Next stop on the WPSA tour is Rossville, IN on July 22, 23rd. Watch for Team Yoshimura Suzuki’s full court press next weekend in Sunset Ridge, IL.

Aftermarket Parts and Supplies

One area of the ATV universe we tend to overlook is the aftermarket parts and supply business. The fact is, there are so many old and well used ATVs on the trails, they far outnumber the brand new ones we most often feature within these pages.

We’ve estimated the aging ATV fleet in North America to be somewhere between five and seven million units. That’s a lot of ATVs. Chances are, the ATV sitting in your garage as you read this is several years old and it’s likely the faithful old steed probably needs some freshening up.

A question we often hear is: Where’s a reliable place to get parts for my long-in-the-tooth 4-wheeler without having to put another mortgage on the barn?” The perfect answer is Dennis Kirk has been supplying mail order parts to the motorsports public for decades.

A business can only sustain itself this long if it is looking after customers and delivering on promises and this famous mail order house has a stellar reputation for getting your stuff to your door safely and at the price you agreed on.

Polaris Spreads the Wealth Amongst ATV Clubs

Hard on the heels of a previous announcement of TRAILS Grants for ATV Clubs and Associations from Polaris Industries comes the news that Polaris has distributed more than $260,000 to 34 organizations in 20 US states.

The grant money was targeted at two major objectives; the first is to promote safe and responsible riding and the second is preserving access.

Helmets off to Polaris for taking this aggressive and tangible action by dedicating real dollars from the company’s profits and investing them back in our sport. Think about this the next time you’re buying an ATV.

Offer It With A Side of 4×4

While we ponder future Kawasaki offerings, here’s an interesting note we picked up from the Can-Am intro…

Seems the BRP brain trust looked very closely at the KFX 700 Kwacker before proceeding with the all-new Can-Am Renegade 800.

The BRP crew believe that if the KFX 700 offered 4-wheel drive either as an option or as another model, it would sell much better.

While the KFX is a hit in western dune markets where mud is rare, there are plenty of buyers in the east and north who won’t look at an ATV unless it has 4×4.

Hold on a sec, didn’t All-Terrain Vehicle Magazine say something similar to this not long ago?
