French Suzuki Quad Star Dominates Glen Helen

Press Release –

Jeremie Warnia, Suzuki Pro ATV racer from Paris, France, made a guest appearance this weekend at the fifth round of the ITP QuadCross Series held at Glen Helen Raceway, San Bernardino, Calif.

Warnia had a 2-1 victory, which was enough to clinch the overall from Doug Eichner.

More interesting was that Warnia’s Suzuki QuadRacer R450 was a nearly stock unit with only minor aftermarket mods, including Yoshimura exhaust, Fox shocks and JB A-Arms.

In a field of highly modified bikes, Warnia showed the true power of the stock machine to awed onlookers surrounding the challenging course.

In France, 21-year old Warnia is the national SuperQuad Champion of 2004, 2006 and 2007 as well as Spanish MX Cross Champion of 2006. In that year, he also attained second place in the French National Championship.

Warnia was excited to have the opportunity to race with the U.S. Pros and was very pleased with this victory. “I love racing in America,” said the French champ. “The tracks are really fun and the people I have met have been very nice to me. I always wanted to ride at Glen Helen as it is a well-known track in France. I look forward to trying to qualify for the Red Bud National event this weekend.”

Yamaha Issues 17 New OHV GRANTs

Press Release –

Yamaha Spearheads Local OHV Access Effort with San Bernardino National Forest Association

Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., is pleased to announce the second round of OHV Access Initiative GRANTs, resulting in more than $200,000 funded to projects supporting safe, responsible riding and sustainable, open riding areas across the country.

Seventeen organizations from 14 states received GRANT (Guaranteeing Responsible Access to our Nation’s Trails) funds for projects including OHV park development, trail mapping and signage to building materials for trail heads and construction equipment for trail development.

In just more than six months, Yamaha’s OHV Access Initiative has awarded in excess of $390,000 to nonprofit organizations that are leading grass roots efforts to support responsible, open access.

The Yamaha OHV Access Initiative review committee will award GRANTs in amounts ranging from $2,000 to $25,000 to the following organizations:

Arapaho National Forest/Clear Creek Ranger District
Amity Rescue Squad
Arizona Off Highway Vehicle Coalition
Black Hills National Forest
Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan
Harland County Ridge Runners ATV Club
Hazard/Perry County Tourism
Indian Creek Valley ATV Club
Mining City Trail Riders (MCTR)
Moto-Trax
Northwood Riders OHV Club
Oswego County ATV Club
Roxbury Riders
San Bernardino National Forest Association
Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office
Triangle Volunteer Fire Dept
Thedford Volunteer Rescue Squad

“Interest in the Yamaha OHV Access Initiative continues to grow as more organizations learn about this relatively new program,” said Mike Martinez, Yamaha’s general manager of ATV and Side-by-Side (SxS) Operations. “Yamaha dealers are embracing the program and actively assisting their local public land agencies, OHV clubs and associations in a combined effort to supply and support a safe and responsible off-road environment.”

As part of its own efforts, Yamaha recently entered into a partnership with the San Bernardino National Forest Association (SBNFA), which is headquartered less than 100 miles from Yamaha’s corporate offices in Southern California.

On May 20, 2008 Yamaha staff, including Martinez and more than 10 others, worked the first annual “Trail Clean Up Day” alongside members of SBNFA’s OHV Volunteer Program in support of Yamaha’s locally adopted trails. Trail assessment, trash pick up, signage renovation, brush clearing and vertical mulching were among some of the duties performed.

“As leaders in the OHV industry, it’s natural for Yamaha to be on the front line of the access issue,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s ATV/SxS marketing manager. “Participating with SBNFA and the Trail Clean Up Day is one way of getting our hands dirty to make a difference for our local trails. The SBNFA has a model OHV Program and this is a great example of the type of efforts we’d like to see nationwide.”

Updated guidelines, an application form and information on the OHV Access Initiative are available at: www.yamaha-motor.com/ohvaccess.

For questions regarding the OHV Access Initiative, groups can call Yamaha’s dedicated OHV Access Initiative Hotline at 1-877-OHV-TRAIL (877-648-8724), email OHVAccess@yamaha-motor.com or write to: Yamaha OHV Access Initiative Review Committee, 6555 Katella Avenue, Cypress, CA 90630-5101.

Each quarter, Yamaha will accept applications from organizations such as non-profit or tax-exempt OHV riding clubs, national forests and associations, and national, state and local government agencies. A committee then reviews each application and awards financial GRANTs to deserving projects. Applications for the third quarter will be accepted through August 31, 2008.

Examples of appropriate projects for GRANTs include, but are not limited to:

· Trail development, restoration and maintenance
· Trail signage and map production
· Staging area construction, renovation and maintenance
· Land stewardship, trail safety and education

Suzuki Hits the Bulls-eye with the Z400 EFI

By: Mike Lester

Suzuki borrowed from the track-proven success of the QuadRacer R450 to modernize its popular Z400 QuadSport for 2009. By comparison, you’d probably mistake one for the other if you walked past them in a showroom.

Apart from making the Z look like a dead-ringer for the 450, the front fenders have been moved slightly forward to provide more leg room for the rider to get lower in the corners without bruising a knee. The new 400 delivers pro-rider feel by the bucket load .

It’s has been widened by one inch to provide more stability in corners and the stance adds considerably to its R450-esque appearance. Keep in mind, though, the Z is still 4 inches narrower than the QuadRacer. Caster has also changed for more high-speed stability and camber reduced for quicker turn-in.

The most notable improvement is the addition of EFI. The fuel injection is great at dishing out even bursts of power at any given altitude delivering more linear power across the powerband. Tightly metered fuel is also a bonus as prices continue to climb at the pumps – not that it affects powersports enthusiasts (cough).

Handlebar position has been moved forward and lowered providing a more balanced feel for the rider, keeping mass toward the middle of the chassis – especially effective when standing on the pegs. Plus, the footrests have been widened to the same width as the R450’s so it’s easier to find them when your feet come off just before landing that big double.

The Z400 delivers wannabee appeal in abundance. For the average rider who wants a solid mix of trail riding and some local track time without shelling out the big bucks for an out-of-the-box 450, this might be the answer you’ve been looking for.

ITP INTRODUCES SS108 ALL TRAIL KIT

Press Release –

For all those side-by-side UTV owners who operate on hard surfaces — such as around construction sites, parking lots, warehouses, etc. — ITP has just come out with a new tire/wheel kit that provides much better overall performance than an OEM setup.

It’s very versatile, too, as this kit has also proven to be highly capable on hard-packed to intermediate off-road trail conditions.

The 25-inch All Trail utilizes a low, wide profile and sturdy 4-ply carcass and sidewall that greatly reduces the soft, wallowing chassis roll experienced with many other tire choices, delivering much more responsive, predictable, level handling on pavement, concrete and hard-packed soil.

The All Trail also features a unique, tightly spaced tread pattern for a silky smooth and quiet ride. Both the tread pattern and the All Trail’s specially formulated rubber compound contribute to low wear and considerably longer life on hard surfaces as well.

The All Trail tire — 25×8-12 in front and 25×10.50-12 out back — is then mounted to ITP’s SS108 one-piece alloy wheel. This dazzling 12×7, eight-spoke wheel features a bright machined finish with black accents, topped with a tough clear-coat.

Built using ITP’s exclusive Advancecast process to exacting QS 9000 specifications, the SS108 is very light yet boasts a strong 650 pound rating and comes with a lifetime structural warranty — if you bend or break it, ITP will replace it! It even comes with a custom SS wheel cap.

The SS108 All Trail Kit conveniently bolts right on to the Yamaha Rhino, Arctic Cat Prowler, Kawasaki Teryx, Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR. You won’t find a more stylish, effective way to go to work (and play at the end of the day)!

Since 1982, ITP has grown into the world’s #1 ATV aftermarket tire and wheel source, and continues to provide a complete line of innovative tires and wheel for virtually all ATVs and UTVs. To order, contact your favorite distributor. For a copy of ITP’s full-color product catalog, call toll-free: 1-800-859-4740. For other inquiries or technical advice, contact ITP at 930-A S. GUST WINS AT AMERICAN SUZUKI SUMMER NATIONAL

Press Release –

It was another successful day for Team Rockstar / MSR / Suzuki / Yoshimura / Pro Taper, as Doug Gust (#55) took the overall victory at Round 9 of the ITP Tires / Moose Racing AMA / ATVA National Motocross Championship in Johnstown, PA.

Championship leader Dustin Wimmer (#191) maintained his series lead with a strong podium finish while Chad Wienen (#44) suffered a rare and unfortunate electronic problem in moto one, hampering his overall for the day.

On race day, many heads were turned to Wimmer, who won Saturday’s Top Qualifier award. A slick track, however, had the championship points leader riding cautiously.

In the first moto, Wimmer secured a great start, but settled for a safe third place, while Team Rockstar / MSR / Suzuki / Yoshimura / Pro Taper teammate Doug Gust, also starting well, finished one spot ahead in second after a close battle for the lead.

When the gates fell for the second moto, it was Gust who grabbed the holeshot, with Wimmer close behind. The two set an incredible pace at the front, and near the midpoint of the race, Wimmer made his move into the lead.

His lead was short lived, however, as a downpour of rain began drenching the track. While pushing hard in the rain, Wimmer made a mistake and relinquished his lead to Gust. The veteran rider was not fazed by the conditions aboard his Suzuki QuadRacer R450, and he proceeded to set a blazing pace to the checkered flag that could not be matched.

The win gave Gust his second overall victory this season (2-1). Wimmer crossed the line in 4th, good enough for third overall (3-4), while Wienen finished a strong 5th for twelfth overall (20-5).

“Everything fell into place for me today,” an elated Gust explained. “My Suzuki QuadRacer R450 is a powerhouse of a bike and really did the job for me.”

Dustin Wimmer’s podium finish allowed him to extend his points lead to a massive 79 points. One more strong finish could very well secure the championship. Suzuki continues to dominate the Manufacturers’ Cup.

Team Manager Kory Ellis was pleased with the performance of the team. “Today went really well! Doug won his second race of the season and Wimmer finished on the podium with a third place and extended his points lead, so it looks like we may be able to secure the championship at the next round in Red Bud.

The Suzuki QuadRacer R450s worked really well today. Gust came out with a second place start in the first moto and had a huge holeshot in the second moto, and Wimmer was right there with him in both motos as well, so the bike was running very good!”

Other Suzuki winners included:

Cody Gibson – Pro Am and Pro Am Unlimited
Terry Monroe – Open C
Neil McGrath – 4 Stroke B
Chad Lohr – Junior 25 Plus
Jeffery Thompson – Vet 30 Plus A and Senior 40 Plus
Brian Jenkins – Vet 30 Plus B/C

The next round of the ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA National Motocross Championship will take place July 26-27 at Red Bud Raceway in Buchanan, MI

AMERICAN SUZUKI CONSOLIDATES ITS BUSINESS DIVISION

Press Release –

NAMES MR. KINJI SAITO AS NEW PRESIDENT TO OVERSEE ALL U.S. OPERATIONS

Auto, Motorcycle/ATVs and Marine Divisions, along with Corporate Operations, will now be consolidated to optimize Suzuki’s success in the United States

American Suzuki Motor Corporation (American Suzuki), continually seeking to optimize its business in response to ever-changing consumer preferences and market conditions, today announced that it will consolidate its independent business units – Automotive, Motorcycle/ATV and Marine, along with Corporate Operations – under a new President, Mr. Kinji Saito.

All of the changes are focused on internal restructuring and do not affect the separate dealer bodies that support each of the company’s product divisions.

Mr. Saito, who most recently served as Deputy Executive General Manager, Global Marketing at Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan, will oversee all of the operations, sales and marketing activities of American Suzuki.

Mr. Rick Suzuki, who has served as Chairman of American Suzuki, will become its Board Advisor. Mr. Mark Harano, currently President of the Automotive Operations; Mr. Masaaki Kato, President of the Motorcycle, ATV and Marine Operations, and Mr. Motoo Murakami, President of Corporate Operations, will now become Executive Vice Presidents of the consolidated company and continue to oversee their respective operations.

“American Suzuki believes it is very important to make changes and respond to the evolving needs of American consumers,” said Mr. Saito. “It is ideal for all of our divisions to work more closely together, plan together and communicate together as a single company, rather than as separate business units. This reorganization reflects our strong commitment to the United States marketplace, and we are very optimistic about the many opportunities that our new corporate structure will provide in promoting collaboration, leveraging our innovative brand spirit across all products, supporting our dealers, and continually improving Suzuki’s entire product lineup in the United States.”

Mr. Saito brings to the U.S. operations significant experience and an impressive track record of success. In 1999, he was named Suzuki’s representative to India, and in 2002 became Director, Marketing & Sales of Maruti Suzuki India.

During his tenure, Suzuki was India’s leading and most dominant automotive company, with a passenger car market share that today exceeds 50 percent. American Suzuki is looking toward this strong new leader to navigate the company to success in these tough U.S. economic situations.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to help lead Suzuki’s efforts in the United States,” said Mr. Saito. “American buying habits are changing and Suzuki is very well positioned for success in the U.S. thanks to our diversity of outstanding products, including many which we plan to launch very soon. I look forward to working closely with my colleagues and fellow employees in continuing to make Suzuki a great success in the United States.”

KYMCO USA and Kolpin Sign Exclusive Partnership

Press Release –

KYMCO USA has announced an agreement with Kolpin Powersports that will expand the accessories options available for KYMCO ATVs and UTVs.

This exclusive partnership gives KYMCO dealers across the US the ability to sell Kolpin’s industry-leading line of accessories. It also calls for the two companies to develop a line of co-branded items exclusive to KYMCO.

The program will be rolled out in three phases over the next 12-18 months. Initially KYMCO USA will distribute the full line of Kolpin ATV/UTV accessories through its dealer network.

In phase two Kolpin will develop specialized packages specific to KYMCO models, specifically the new MXU 375 4×4 and UXV 500 side-by-side. KYMCO and Kolpin will then go on to jointly develop proprietary accessories unique to KYMCO. These will be co-branded by the two companies.

“We are very pleased to partner with an industry leader like Kolpin. We’ve been developing a strategy to offer our dealers best-in-class products and Kolpin is clearly a great choice to assist us in solidifying this strategy”, said Eric Bondy, President & CEO of KYMCO USA.

According to Tom Lutes, President & CEO of Kolpin Powersports, “When we decided to strategically go after an import brand as an additional avenue in the market, KYMCO was the only one we considered. That’s a testament to what they have achieved as far as credibility. They were our first target and our only target.”

The joint agreement was announced by Bondy and Lutes at the KYMCO USA national dealer meeting, where it was met with an extremely positive reception. At that time KYMCO also unveiled its new UXV 500 side x side and the all-new MXU 375 with electronic, shift-on-the-fly 4 WD and fully independent suspension front and rear.

The Kolpin brand is steeped in a tradition of innovation, quality, and reliability. The company was founded in 1943, and Kolpin products have moved forward for over 60 years, making them the industry’s trusted outfitter for outdoor adventures, farm work and construction.

Their joint agreement provides an opportunity for both Kolpin and KYMCO USA to continue to deliver highly engineered and innovative products to the powersports market.

Natalie Clocks Fastest Lap at Pleasure Valley

Press Release –

As the end of the 2008 season draws near, Warnert Racing’s John Natalie once again has proved why he is the “Ironman”.

Even after flipping his quad in moto number two of round nine of the AMA ATV Motocross Nationals, the #13 Can-Am laid down the fastest lap time of the weekend with a blistering 01:45.496 lap at Pleasure Valley Raceway.

In moto number one, John came off the line in 4th place and was applying pressure to take over 3rd, but a flat tire caused by a rock forced Natalie to slow his charge.

Despite his tire difficulties, John was holding fast to 4th place, but in lap eleven John encountered a mechanical issue that ended things a little early for him.

In the second moto, John came off the line looking strong, but soon ran into problems. “I hit a rut and flipped my bike. That put me back to last place, but I made up for it.

I got the fastest lap time of the race in the next lap and moved all the way up to 10th,” John stated.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature decided that she was going to rain on everyone’s parade and let loose with a torrential downpour that caused many racers, including Natalie, to toss their goggles aside when visibility became too poor.

“I couldn’t see anything because off all the mud, so I took off my goggles,” said Natalie, who dropped back to 12th due to the deteriorating conditions. John ended his day in 14th place overall but remains optimistic that things will be different at the next round at Red Bud. “We’ve been doing a lot of work to the bike and it is running great. We’re really getting things dialed in and I’m looking forward to Red Bud. I think we have a good shot at a 1-1 finish,” he concluded confidently.

Warnert teammate Cody Miller is currently tied for 11th place in the points race after round nine, which is quite an accomplishment after not being able to compete in the season opener.

Miller was at the back of the pack off the gate in moto one, but Miller’s determination allowed him to soon make quick work of Cale Downen and Sage Baker and work his way into the tenth spot, where he would finish in the first moto. “The bike ran great and the power was right there. I didn’t have any problems,” said Cody.

In moto number two, Miller came off the line in 14th place and was doing well until lap six. Miller lost traction in a turn and spun out, which sent him to the back of the pack. Cody didn’t let his mishap get the best of him as kept focused and began to move back up through traffic until the rain began to fall.

The intensity of the sudden downpour caught many racers by surprise, including Miller. “It was raining so hard and it got really muddy. I couldn’t see anything so I threw my goggles,” he said.

Despite the rain and mud, Cody still managed to overtake Yamaha’s Pat Brown before the finish line, which landed him in 17th and gave him a 13th place finish overall.

The Warnert team will be heading to Red Bud in Buchanan, MI for round ten on July 26th-27th, where John Natalie could possibly break into the top five in the points race if his prediction of a 1-1 finish comes to pass.
