I-4WD HONDA PIONEER LE

0

Honda has unveiled two new limited-edition versions of its popular flagship side-by-side, the Pioneer 1000-5 LE and Pioneer 1000 LE, both of which come with a new I-4WD system.

Never before used in the powersports industry, this intelligent system is a direct result of Honda’s automotive-engineering prowess, and offers three great benefits: brake traction control, hill-start assist and electronic brake force distribution.

Combined with the Pioneer 1000’s Torque Biasing Limited Slip differential, I-4WD can provide as much tractive force as a locking differential but with reduced steer effort and kickback. The result is excellent grip on a wide range of challenging surfaces, a more relaxed driving experience, and no need to stop and engage diff-lock.

Both Limited Edition versions of the Pioneer 1000 also come with a host of additional upgrades to improve suspension performance, protection, convenience and style, while non-LE models also get several important improvements.

“It’s exciting to share the news that Honda is bringing I-4WD differential technology to the side-by-side market for the first time,” said Lee Edmunds, Manager of Powersports Marketing Communications at American Honda. “To develop this intelligent system, Honda engineers collaborated with our automotive division and then tailored a system specifically for the rigors of the off-road environment. With I-4WD, the Pioneer 1000-5 LE and Pioneer 1000 LE set new industry standards, putting our flagship multipurpose side-by-side even further ahead of the competition in terms of performance and value.”

Pioneer 1000-5 Limited Edition / Pioneer 1000 Limited Edition

The Pioneer 1000 is already the industry’s benchmark multipurpose side-by-side, with the best engine, drivetrain and chassis, plus the market’s only automatic six-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) gearbox.

Now Honda introduces two new iterations—the five-person Pioneer 1000-5 LE and three-person Pioneer 1000 LE—that are the first powersports vehicles to come with I-4WD, an intelligent differential system that conveniently combines the four-wheel-drive and diff-lock functions into a single selection mode.

I-4WD incorporates the industry’s first off-road brake traction control system to manage the amount of slip between left and right front wheels, applying torque to the wheel with greater grip. The result is excellent traction performance in tough off-road conditions, with reduced steer effort and kickback compared to standard diff-lock.

In addition, LE models feature hill-start assist to brake while transitioning to the accelerator from a dead stop on an incline, and optimize brake force distribution between the front and rear brakes while coming to a stop—loaded or empty.

While I-4WD is the standout feature on the two new LE models, the rest of the list is impressive as well. Adjustable FOX QS3 shocks provide an even smoother ride and improved handling; with a simple turn of a dial, customers can tune the machine for different terrains or driving styles.

A beefy new bumper highlights and protects the grill, and aluminum A-arm guards and skid plate protect the vehicle against rocks and debris. Convenience-minded additions include illuminated dash switches for nighttime use; transmission-mode memory function to retain Automatic, Sport or Manual mode after engaging reverse; a pre-wired winch harness, new cabin-storage compartments and cup holders in all four doors. There are even comfort- and style-focused improvements like thicker seat foam, painted bodywork, red springs and A-arms and substantial aluminum wheels.

Pioneer 1000-5 Deluxe / Pioneer 1000-5 / Pioneer 1000 EPS / Pioneer 1000

Since its 2015 introduction, the Pioneer 1000 has established itself as the flagship in the Pioneer lineup, with a class-leading 999cc twin-cylinder engine and the industry’s first fully automatic six-speed Dual Clutch Transmission. For the 2017 model year, all versions of the Pioneer 1000—including the five-person Pioneer 1000-5 Deluxe and Pioneer 1000-5, as well as the three-person Pioneer 1000 EPS and Pioneer 1000—have thicker seat foam for increased comfort, plus a winch-ready wiring harness. In addition, all Pioneer 1000 models get a new memory function that retains the last transmission mode after engaging reverse.

All Pioneer 1000 models still boast fully independent rear suspension and long suspension travel, as well as 2,000-pound towing capacities. In addition, the five-person models once again feature the exclusive QuickFlip® system that lets owners switch between seating arrangements for three, four or five people. Topping it all off are Honda’s legendary reputation for durability, quality and reliability.

GRIZZLY PROJECT: Elka Stage 4 Shocks

0

After the popularity of our GNCC inspired WR700 Grizzly build last season on Dirt Trax Television, we wanted to see what we could do to increase the level of performance out of a stock Grizzly focused on trail performance to bring it up to the level of Limited models offered by Yamaha’s competition.

Some of these competitive units feature some pretty trick aftermarket parts such as performance piggyback shocks, trick wheels and aggressive meats as well as performance exhausts or bolt-on accessories. Our Grizzly project is shaping up and its latest upgrade is a game changer.

Elka Suspension sent us a beautiful set of Stage 4 shocks for the Grizzly’s rear suspension and Stage 3’s for up front. The Stage 4 shocks are only one step down from Elka’s top of the line Stage 5 high performance shocks which we used on the WR700 last season. Not only are the Stage 4 shocks absolutely gorgeous, they significantly increase the performance capabilities of our ATV.

The Stage 4’s smooth turning single external compression knob controls the low-speed compression damping helps to reduce body roll while cornering and rear end squatting when you press the go button. Not to mention a considerable upgrade in plushness while navigating choppy and aggressive terrain. Also built into the shock is an internal high-speed (back saving) blow-off circuit which relieves peak pressure on G-outs.

These shocks also feature rebound adjustability, which controls the speed at which the shock returns to their original fully extended height. This also helps reduce the bucking sensation experienced while tackling stutters at speed, keeping the rider in control of the ATV and moving forward in the right direction.

Furthermore threaded body spring preload allows the rider to fine-tune the force applied to the springs and balance rider and cargo weight distribution over the entire vehicle to suit personal preference and adapt to various terrain conditions.

Stay tuned for more about this build and visit elkasuspension.com for more information about the Stage 4 shock absorbers.

Yamaha Racers Dominate

0

Yamaha Motor Corp., USA supported racers dominated the leading national and regional Side-by-Side (SxS) and ATV racing series in 2016 aboard the YXZ1000R pure sport SxS and class-leading YFZ450R sport ATV. The exciting season was recently capped with Yamaha-supported factory racers Dustin Nelson and Corry Weller claiming the top two spots in the Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Racing Series (LORORS) of Arizona and the recent Lucas Oil Racing Shootout.

This past weekend, Nelson and Weller were named champion and runner-up, respectively, of the Production 1000 class in the Arizona LORORS. Following his LORORS championship in the Southern California series, Nelson finished the Arizona LORORS with seven wins, never falling below second place. Combined with Weller’s wins, the YXZ1000R led 9 of 10 rounds, and held the top two spots on the podium in eight. The two racers also took the top in-class positions in this year’s Lucas Oil Racing Shootout, with Nelson finishing in first. In October, Nelson also won Arizona’s LORORS Challenge Cup in the Production 1000 UTV class while piloting the YXZ1000R.

“Yamaha’s YXZ1000R has changed the sport of Side-by-Side racing, and it’s been super exciting to be such a big part of its inaugural year on the track and on the podium,” Weller said. “From the West Coast Lucas Oil series to the Midwest TORC series, we’re collecting trophies and championships. The YXZ makes such a great racing package, and the competition’s belt-based CVTs just can’t match the YXZ’s driveline efficiency and durability.”

Weller also won The Off-Road Championship (TORC) series last month in the series’ first ever Pro Stock UTV Championship. Weller’s victory at TORC marked the YXZ1000R’s first national championship as well as the first championship won by a woman in any TORC class. In addition, three-time PRO 2WD and current PRO 4WD championship truck driver C.J. Greaves drove a YXZ in the final TORC round and Cup Race in Crandon, Wisconsin, sweeping the weekend in the Pro Stock UTV class and capping a dominating presence in the series.

“The success of the YXZ1000R in just over a year after its launch is a testament to Yamaha’s undeniable leadership in the world of off-road racing,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s ATV and SxS group marketing manager. “We’re excited to see the YXZ dominate the racing circuit in its debut, and look forward to this continuing for years to come, as the YFZ450R already has – this year being no exception.”

Winning his fifth straight ATV motocross (MX) championship, AMA Pro ATV champion Chad Wienen made history this year, becoming the second all-time greatest racer in ATV MX history. In Wienen’s five years of ATV MX racing, he won a total of 30 rounds, while placing on the podium in all 52 rounds he competed in aboard his Wienen Motorsports/SSI YFZ450R.

Bringing another win for the YFZ450R, N-Fab/Am-Pro/Moto-XPerts Yamaha-sponsored Walker Fowler won his second straight Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) championship in the XC1 Pro ATV class at only 23 years of age. Fowler dominated with a significant lead throughout the series, with seven first place finishes, clinching his championship before the final race.

“For another consecutive year, Chad and Walker have proven the YFZ450R is the sport ATV to beat,” said Donnie Luce, Yamaha’s Off-Road / ATV coordinator. “With the two being such powerhouses on the off-road circuit for so long, it’s great to see drivers with Dustin and Corry’s impressive resume enter – and dominate – the SxS racing world.”

Nelson, Weller, Wienen and Fowler will be recognized on their racing success this year at Yamaha’s Wall of Champions event in December. This special ceremony symbolizes Yamaha racers’ accomplishments and contributions from the racetrack to their local communities annually. This is the first year Weller joins the wall, alongside Nelson, Wienen and Fowler, who were added in previous years, alongside other Yamaha Racing greats such as GNCC Hall of Famer Bill Ballance, and AMA Motocross Hall of Famer Rick Johnson.

Yamaha Motor Finance Launches New Credit Card Program

0

Yamaha Motor Finance Corp., USA, (YMFUS) today announced it has launched an all-new credit card program that is available through all Yamaha dealers starting November 1, 2016. This important Yamaha-exclusive consumer financing tool is replacing an outgoing program that had been managed by various banks over the last 20 years.

“Yamaha will maintain the key features our dealers and customers value, while providing the program directly through our captive finance company,” says Kim Ruiz, Vice-President of Yamaha Motor Corp., USA (YMUS) and President and CEO of YMFUS. “The new credit card moves Yamaha closer to our dealers and customers, allowing us to better understand and fulfill their needs.”

The new program provides an easy to use application process and instant approvals to qualifying customers when they are considering a new purchase, and the revolving line of credit provided by the card translates to repeat purchases. YMFUS is supporting the card with low, attractive special financing promotions and expects the new program to serve as the primary financing source for many of Yamaha’s products, including Motorcycles, ATV’s, Side-by-Side vehicles and Personal Watercraft.

“Offering a long-term solution for a credit card program was critical to maintaining our leadership position in the powersports lending industry by providing Yamaha dealers and customers the most complete array of financing solutions,” says Jeff Young, executive vice president and COO of YMFUS. “This highly innovative solution not only provides program continuity, it also gives our dealers and customers the certainty of a Yamaha-backed program. Yamaha’s capital supports it and Yamaha manages it – that’s a very different model than the previous bank-managed program.”

YMUS launched Yamaha Motor Finance last year to initially focus on first-time and limited credit buyers, enabling its dealers to expand their business in a segment underserved by traditional banks and lenders. This new credit card program will allow Yamaha Motor Finance to expand its focus to “Prime” consumers and take over a program that has provided financing solutions to more than one million customers.

Yamaha Motor Finance has expanded its staff at its headquarters in Cypress, California, to manage the new program. The credit cards will be issued by WebBank, Member FDIC.

Yamaha Motor Finance Corporation, USA, (YMFUS) was created by Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, (YMUS) to provide a new captive financing solution to powersports consumers. YMFUS operates throughout YMUS’s nationwide network of dealers financing Yamaha products and supporting Yamaha customers.
